The scenario in the media industry has a significant relationship with the economy and politics of a country. Every change that occurs in radio broadcasting is made based on the policies and plans of a country. In Malaysia, Radio Televisyen Malaysia has started their plan for digitalisation in radio as early as 1997. The action is taken in line with the National Telecommunications Policy and the National Development Policy. However, there is a significant digitalisation gap between national and private broadcasting bodies. The result shows that the national broadcasting body has a clear vision and mission on radio digitalisation; however, its implementation faces various constraints and challenges. It makes the digitalisation of free-to-air radio in Malaysia uncertain.

This research examines the personal style blog from a philosophical perspective in an attempt to understand its implications for fashion diffusion theory. Starting from an evaluation of Georg Simmel’s trickle-down theory of diffusion (1904), the paper goes on to dissect the rhetoric of democratization that has come to define fashion blogging in the media and previous scholarship, only to show that the success of bloggers both reaffirms and challenges the notion that fashion is elitist. Phenomenologist Martin Heidegger’s concepts of authenticity and inauthenticity are then used to gain a better grasp of how the personal style blog reflects the dual nature of fashion and of the Self. Tavi Gevinson’s The Style Rookie was selected as a case study to demonstrate the personal style blog’s potential to act as an authentic means of expression, while still being a part of the inauthentic media complex.

The development of communication and information technology that gave birth to the digital era has made the competition for the mass media industry increasingly competitive. This condition requires conventional mass media, especially local newspapers to carry out special strategies focused on efforts to transform their activities in accordance with the demands of the times, so as not to get further behind with new media that use the internet and digital technology. The Daily OKU Ekspres and OKU Timur Pos, as conventional local newspapers, are confronted with this reality. Surrender or immediately develop a strategy for transformation and change, in order to remain able to compete in the media industry. This study uses a qualitative method, where data analysis is displayed descriptively. The results showed that the two newspapers systematically implemented four strategies to face competition with online media, namely; strengthen local content with investigative reports, media convergence, penetration in social media networks and carry out regular and incidental off-air activities. In the context of this strategy choice, the two newspapers are able to capitalize on the vulnerability of online media to strengthen their existence.

The digital era has perpetuated new pedagogies of collective participation in networks that requires reflection in the conventional education area, because of YouTube, as audiovisual platform of outstanding international recognition, concentrates an extensive repertoire of informal learning practices among young people. In this case, the research focuses on a form of literary expression driven by the new Booktube community, which is dedicated to the recommendation of books and the promotion of reading by focusing their messages through the videoblog format. This aspect, closely popularized in the platform, allow us to deepen new youth practices outside classroom that refer to the promotion of books and critical and judicious expression on aspects related to content, formats, genres and authors in a context supported by the media ecology. In order to deepen the reasons why youth reads currently, we developed a literature review starting with the transmedia literacy concept evaluating narrative and aesthetic competences and applying a content analysis and a case study that collects channels of two Spanish booktubers with high impact and community: Javier Ruescas and Fly like a Butterfly. Results discern an affinity space linked to the opinion of peers that promotes reading and writing, and the ability to interpret, describe, compare and reflect about the literary context.

This article will discuss recent trends in Malaysia's media surrounding the 2013 general election (GE13). It will argue that the GE13 produced two important trends in the media industry. First, there was increased political-party participation in social media, citizen journalism and blogging. In fact, it practically led to a ‘cyberwar’ between political parties, making the realm of the online and social media increasingly polarised and partisan. Second, many mainstream media outlets in Malaysia successfully pursued a platform of more ‘balanced’ coverage, suggesting an increased space of negotiation and contestation amongst the previously muzzled print, television and radio industry. This article will conclude with an assessment of the future trends in the media industry in Malaysia post GE13.

In general, it is concurred that the print media industry is an industry category that is currently sunset with its product life cycle is decreasing. Moreover, the Covid-19 pandemic condition since March 2020 in Indonesia has forced media businesses to suffer even more. However, on Saturday, July 4, 2020, Surabaya city has a new daily media published, namely “DI's Way Daily”. The figure behind it is Dahlan Iskan, a media figure known as the pioneer of Jawa Pos Daily. DI's Way brings several differentiating attributes to its product. With a simple case study method, this paper aims to examine the resilience of this daily from the perspective of hyperlocal content production strategy (hyperlocality) and entrepreneurial journalism. A local content strategy is insufficient to make the media business sustainable as it needs to be accompanied by entrepreneurial journalism.
