In the world of education the utilization of information technology is something that must be implemented, one of which is the use of the internet which can be used as a medium for disseminating information. Informatic Study Program of Sumbawa University of Technology is a study program that has graduated many alumni, but so far there is no portal that can manage information regarding the whereabouts of its alumni. This causes the study program difficulties in getting the latest information of the alumni when needed. Therefore, in this research a website-based alumni information system was designed which aims to facilitate the Informatic Study Program of Sumbawa University of Technology in managing and searching for information related to alumni data. In building this system researchers used the PHP programming language with CodeIgniter Framework and MySQL as the database. Then for the development of this software is using Waterfall model. It is hoped that when this system is implemented it can be used by study programs and alumni in managing alumni information, making it easier and faster to conduct data collection and reporting of existing alumni data.

ABSTRACT The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Sanctuaries Hazardous Incident Emergency Logistics Database System (SHIELDS) is an Internet-based information system designed to improve access to critical data, plans, and tools for National Marine Sanctuary (NMS) personnel and their partners for contingency planning and response situations. At the core of the SHIELDS project is a website developed for each of the thirteen National Marine Sanctuaries and one coral reef ecosystem reserve in the sanctuary designation process. Each site hosts general planning and response information, such as policies and contingency plans. More so, SHIELDS takes advantage of leading information technology to improve the availability of vital response information and folds it into one comprehensive website. The use of Geographic Information System (GIS) data has expanded from static hardcopy maps to web-based interactive mapping, allowing Internet users to easily examine Sanctuary-specific geographic data from any location. SHIELDS offers NOAA modeling tools to analyze the fate of pollutants and live buoy data for real-time oceanographic conditions. Web-based databases within SHIELDS allow the user to enter or query information on personnel contact and location, potential Sanctuary threats, geographic response plans (GRPs) and Resources and UnderSea Threats (RUST) data, post updated incident text and documentation, or look up response glossary terms. Although SHIELDS relies extensively on the use of the Internet to distribute its information, it has also been designed to work as a stand-alone product for those inevitable circumstances when Internet access is not available during a response. The user can load the SHIELDS webpages and data onto their personal computer and carry it to any remote location to access the same data found on the Internet. SHIELDS provides the most comprehensive incident planning and response information for the National Marine Sanctuary Program (NMSP). This ensures that NOAA fulfills its role as stewards of Sanctuary resources and provides effective and timely response information about their trust resources.

In this chapter, we are mainly interested in ways that use of the Internet can promote helpful, legitimate, and practical support to teachers, students, and others interested in education for peace, conflict resolution, and violence prevention. The World Wide Web, a powerful global network, has immense capacity to influence people (especially children) that can be compared to the influence of television. Research that has been done on television viewing shows that it can have positive and negative effects on behavior beginning in early childhood. It does not affect everyone in the same way—variables such as age, socioeconomic status, and identification with television characters all play significant roles in how content affects a child. The Internet and other interactive media are similar to television by way of underlying factors (such as observational learning, attitudes, and arousal) that influence behavior. Over the past several decades, some of the most profound changes in the way we live have come from the revolution in information technology (IT). A wide range of technologies has not only made it easier to communicate but also to send and utilize information. These devices have not stayed in the province of institutions or specialists but have found their way into common use. From cell phones and personal digital assistants to computers (just to touch on some of the most common of these technologies), they have changed the way ordinary people interact and behave. Their effects have been profound, as reflected in the speed with which these technologies have evolved and insinuated themselves into everyday life. Perhaps the most important of these technologies is the personal computer (PC). In itself, the rise of the PC was a dramatic event, allowing more people to apply the capabilities of the computer to small business, personal activity, and schoolwork. But in the past decade, other information technologies that utilize the PC, the most important of which are the World Wide Web and electronic mail (e-mail), have appeared and promise further large-scale uses.

The growth in multimedia technology has revolutionized the way people interact with computer systems. From personal software to business systems and pedagogic applications, multimedia technology is opening up new pathways to increase the efficiency of existing systems. However, the utilization and implementation of new technologies has been occurring at such a rapid pace that theory and research has been unable to keep up. This is particularly evident with data collection methods in the social sciences. With the growth in use of the Internet passing the 1 billion user mark in 2006 (Internet Usage Statistics, 2006), social scientists are turning to the Internet for data collection purposes in increasing numbers (few, if any, advances have revolutionized data collection more than the use of the Internet). Often referred to as Internet-based research, Web-based research, and cyberresearch, this mode of data collection refers to the administration of questionnaires and acquisition of response data in an automated manner via the World Wide Web. Collecting participant responses was a task that once required hours of direct interaction, created problems in scheduling, and limited the diversity of the population being studied. Now data collection can be automated and conducted at any time with increased efficiency (MacWhinney, 2000) and at reduced costs (Cobanoglu, Warde, & Moreo, 2001). Moreover, depending on the nature of the research, the questionnaire can be delivered to Internet users around the world; additionally, research can be targeted to specific populations that have traditionally been underrepresented in the research literature (Im & Chee, 2004; Mathy, Schillace, Coleman, & Berquist, 2002). However, the advantages of using the Internet as a medium for data collection are not without their shortcomings. Theory has not been able to keep up with the proliferation of Internet-based research projects. Further, creative methodologies to facilitate data collection are being proposed in the empirical literature with increased frequency, raising questions about the construct validity of associated studies. The creation of new research methodologies has led to the need for new ethical guidelines for the protection of Internet research subjects, and thus are posing new challenges for research review boards at many institutions (Flanagan, 1999). Academic disciplines that currently use the Internet as a vehicle for data collection are multifarious, and a discussion of the major issues relevant to each is beyond the scope of this article. Thus, for the sake of brevity, and because it is the discipline of which our knowledge is the most up to date, we will limit our discussion to the specific discipline of psychology, as its wide range of methodologies allow for examples of different challenges relevant to other areas of research. It is important for the reader to note that these issues are similar across the many fields that have implemented Internet-based data collection models for empirical research. This article will provide a summary of the conceptual, methodological, and ethical challenges for the researcher considering the Internet as a tool for data collection and will make suggestions for the ethical and effective implementation of such studies. Due to its brief length, the depth of our discussion is neither expansive nor comprehensive; rather we will focus on what we feel are the key issues for the nascent cyberresearcher. Readers interested in a comprehensive review of this topic are directed to Birnbaum (2000).

One of the courses in D IV Informatics Engineering Department is Industrial Practices Work. This course is held to equip students of praxis in the world of software development. Unfortunately, so far the mechanism for implementing Industrial Practices Work is still in the conventional form. One of them is, for example, a student registers with the administration department of a study program, then requests a letter to be made to several software houses. In fact, sometimes the drafting of the request can be repeated in each group. This kind of process is very ineffective and slows down the performance of study programs. Therefore, through this research an information system was developed that could help to facilitate the implementation of Industrial Practices Work. The system development methodology used in this study is the waterfall method.
