The relevance of the study is due to the interest of linguistics in the problems of the functioning of the English language in various genres of business communication from the point of view of cultural linguistics. The results of a comparative study of the verbal formulation of the valuemarked communicative situation of gratitude in the corpus of English-speaking Arabic (Learner Business Letter Corpus (LBCL)) and English-American business correspondence (Business Letter Corpus (BLC)) are presented in the article. It was found that the linguistic means of expressing gratitude in the BLC corpus demonstrate great lexical and grammatical variability, preference is given to implicit performatives. It is noted that a limited set of lexical and grammatical constructions is used in the corpus of the Arabic English-language business communication, and explicite performatives dominate. It is shown that in both corpuses, gratitude is used to formalize a request or demand; in Arabic English communication, flattery acts as a variation of the speech act rethinking of gratitude. It was revealed that when expressing a proactive gratitude implying a request in the Arabic linguistic culture, strategies of positive politeness are used, demonstrating the unity of interests of the communication participants, in contrast to theAnglo-American linguistic culture, which relies on the strategy of negative politeness, softening impositivity.

AbstractThis study focuses in the field of social status representations, the ones that reinforce forms of specific learning, and knowledge from common sense. Based on these concepts, we addressed the beliefs that university students should be proficient in their mother language in the area of speaking, reading, listening, and writing. The methods used were narrative analysis and descriptive statistics. The data collected was through a diagnostic test and the participants sample were 111 students from Venezuela, Peru and Ecuador. The findings indicate that the highest preference index were concentrated in the high and a medium responses. This means that according to their social status, the students have linguistic skills that make them proficient in writing, reading and the general use of the Spanish language. The use of good communicative skills comes from the agreements and disagreements they have experienced as a group. This interaction has allowed them to acquire the symbolic content of the language as an important social object. This perception of language as something valuable makes the students use it accurately, even though is just a belief.

The problems of digital transformation as the main trend in the development of education and it’s connection with the educational ecosystem are discussed. The transformation of the role of the teacher in the university in connection with the digitalization of society is noted. The place of the digital employee as an element of the social component of the ecosystem is indicated. The approaches to the design of the image of a digital employee are characterized: from the point of view of the components of the educational environment, the students’ perceptions of the teacher as a partner in educational interactions and the peculiarities of business communication in joint activities. Style features take into account the integration of both external and internal human resources, and are formed by arbitrary selection from a set of potential components of the style. In the aspect of comfortable interaction, students’ ideas about a comfortable teacher are analyzed. The study involved students with different periods of study at the university. Dispersion analysis revealed differences in ideas about a comfortable teacher, both of an affirmative supervenience and non-adaptive, requiring additional attention in organizing the educational process. Correlation analysis revealed the connection between personality traits and the coefficient showing the divergence between one’s own style and the style of a comfortable teacher. The options for designing a digital teacher by distributing functions between a robot and a human are discussed. Recommendations are indicated that can be applied both for real university teachers and digital employees.

This research deals with the development of  self concept of Hiroko as the main character in Namaku Hiroko by Nh. Dini and tries to identify how Hiroko is portrayed in the story, how she interacts with other characters and whether she is portrayed as a character dominated by ”I” element or  ”Me”  element seen  from sociological and cultural point of view. As a qualitative research in nature, the source of data in this research is the novel Namaku Hiroko (1967) and the data ara analyzed and presented deductively. The result of this analysis shows that in the novel, Hiroko as a fictional character is  portrayed as a girl whose personality  develops and changes drastically from ”Me”  to ”I”. When she was still in the village  l iving with her parents, she was portrayed as a obedient girl who was loyal to the parents, polite and acted in accordance with the social customs. In short, her personality was dominated by ”Me”  self concept. On the other hand, when she moved to the city (Kyoto), she was portrayed as a wild girl  no longer controlled by the social customs. She was  firm and determined totake decisions of  her won  for her future without considering what other people would say about her. She did not want to be treated as object. To put it in another way, her personality is more dominated by the ”I” self concept.
