The expression case study implies a wide range of issues presented for analysis, based on actual or simulated events that could logically occur. Besides, it involves profound research of phenomena or events. In medical education and practice, a case study represents an essential diagnostic procedure and investigation method used to create a profound understanding of an intricate problem in its real context. The implementation of the case study approach is of great importance in teaching English for medical purposes because the medical topics presented to students are familiar to them and medical terminology is applied to language learning. The case study is so structured as to serve the communicative function and provides the necessary content. It comprises the most relevant aspects in the field of medicine such as presenting signs and symptoms, performing different types of examinations, treatment, and health care management. The standard problem that needs to be solved is the patient’s problem, and establishing an adequate diagnosis is the goal. In this way, students develop critical thinking and reflective learning, improve organizational skills, as well as the ability to see the complexity of real-world events and understand the perspective of others.  This method has proven to be highly practical preparing students for reality, not theory workplace. In this way integration of language and the professional setting is enabled.

According to SAS No. 56, Analytical Procedures, the use of disaggregate, individual location data can improve the effectiveness of analytical procedures used in multilocation audits. Using a case-study approach, we investigate whether improvements in the accuracy and precision of account balance expectations can be obtained by using disaggregate, individual location data in a large, multilocation company. Specifically, we examine two issues: (1) whether the summation of individual location expectations generates more accurate and precise expectations of company-wide account balances than expectations based on company-wide data only and (2) whether the accuracy and precision of analytical procedures is enhanced by including peer location observations of the account balance in individual location expectation models. We find that for the multilocation company examined in this case study the summation of individual location account balance expectations is not more accurate or precise than an expectation derived from aggregate models unless the individual location models include peer location observations of the account balance. When the individual location models include the same account observations from other peer locations within the company, the company-wide account balance expectations developed from disaggregate models are more accurate and precise (less variable) than expectations developed using aggregate, company-wide data only. The results from this case study indicate that when auditors are generating expectations of company-wide balances, disaggregate models incorporating peer location account observations provide account balance expectations that are both more accurate and more precise than company-wide, aggregate models. Given the limitations of a case-study approach, future research should be directed at establishing the generalizability of these findings.

AbstractEducation in pesantren is generally carried out in a dormitory that lives and stays for 24 hours, under the main guidance of the Kiai or the head of the pesantren. It is necessary to understand the parenting patterns of children in the pesantren so that the conditions and affective development of children are created as expected by parents who submit their children to study at the pesantren. This study aims to understand the parenting style of pesantren education on children's affective development. This study used a qualitative method with a case study approach. The data collection technique is done by interview, observation, and document review. The results showed that the boarding school's education parenting towards children's affective development was manifested through the cultivation of santri discipline, cultivation of independence, cultivation of an awareness of the importance of society, habituation of conducting book studies, developing talents and interests, and giving sanctions to students who violate the discipline. This finding reinforces the opinion that pesantren have played a role in educating people's lives. It is suggested that this parenting style be studied more widely and deeply so that it can then be applied to other pesantren.
