Metabolic syndrome, refers to a group of conditions common in people with insulin resistance, including higher than normal blood glucose levels, increased waist size due to excess abdominal fat (Obesity), high blood pressure and abnormal levels of cholesterol and triglycerides in the blood.  People with metabolic syndrome have an increased risk of developing type 2diabetes and CVD. More than 10 million cases of metabolic syndrome occurs per year in India. The prevalence of metabolic syndrome increases with age and about 40% of people above 60 years are affected with metabolic syndrome.  Diabetes occurs as chronic sequel of metabolic syndrome.  In the whole world, nearly about 24% of the population is suffering from diabetes. As per WHO, its percentage may go as high as 40-45% in 2020. So, there is intense need to know the graveness of the disease and to understand the possible ways of prevention.

Background: The metabolic syndrome often begins with insulin resistance characterized by hyperinsulinemia and hyperglycemia. Synbiotic yoghurt tanduk banana contains probiotic and prebiotic FOS can improve insulin resistance in metabolic syndrome.Objective: To prove the effect of synbiotic yoghurt tanduk banana can reduce blood glucose levels and insulin levels in metabolic syndrome rats.Method: True-experimental study with randomized controlled group pre-post test design in male wistar rats. Eighteen samples were induced to become metabolic syndrome with high fat fructose diet for 2 weeks and they were divided into 3 groups: control (K) was given standard diet, treatment group 1 (P1), and treatment group 2 (P2) were given sinbiotic yoghurt tanduk banana dose of 0.009 ml/g body weight (BW)/day and 0.018 ml/g BW/day for 2 weeks.Results: The paired t-test showed there were differences of blood glucose levels and insulin levels before and after treatment in P2 group. The Kruskal Wallis test showed there were differences of mean blood glucose levels inter group after treatment (p<0.05). The One-way Anova test showed there were differences of mean insulin levels inter group after treatment (p<0.05). Conclusion: Synbiotic yoghurt tanduk banana can reduce blood glucose levels and insulin levels in metabolic syndrome rat with effective dose is 0.018 ml/grBW/day.

Health problems are affected by several factors, including lifestyle, diet, work environment factors, exercise, and stress. Changes in lifestyle can lead to an increase in the prevalence of degenerative diseases such as coronary heart disease, diabetes mellitus (DM), obesity, and high blood pressure. Risk factors that will occur due to increasing age include blood circulation disorders such as hypertension, blood vessel disorders, DM, and disorders of the joints. The purpose of this study was to determine the correlation between blood glucose levels and blood pressure in prolanis (Chronic Disease Management Program) members. The type and design of this study used an Analytical Observational design and a Cross Sectional design. The population in this study was 71 people with a sample of 35 respondents. The data in this study were secondary data obtained from data on blood glucose levels and blood pressure of prolanis members of the Somagede Public Health Care Center. The results of statistical tests showed that 11 people (31%) had high blood glucose levels, 18 people (52%) had normal blood glucose levels, and 6 people (17%) had low blood glucose levels. In addition, of these respondents, it was found that 11 people (31%) had high blood pressure, 24 people (63%) had normal blood pressure, and 2 people (6%) had low blood pressure. The analysis with the Pearson test showed that the value of p = 0.728, which means that H0 was accepted. Thus, there is no relationship between glucose levels and blood pressure in Prolanis members of the Somagede Public Health Care Center, Banyumas Regency. The null correlation between blood pressure and glucose levels might be because of the respondents' ability to control glucose levels, hence there are no complications that can increase blood pressure values.

Introduction: Nonalcoholic fatty liver (NAFLD) occurs in a setting of high fat diets, insulin resistance, obesity and dyslipidemia. Individuals with NAFLD have an increased risk of developing metabolic syndrome. Heme oxygenase-1 (HMOX1), a major cytoprotective enzyme, attenuates oxidative stress and obesity and increases insulin sensitivity. The antioxidant effect of HMOX1 is due to an increase in ferritin, and bilirubin and a decrease in heme, a pro-oxidant. The aim of this study was to examine the role of increased hepatic HMOX activity in decreasing steatosis, adiposity and vascular dysfunction and to determine the mechanism underlying these metabolic changes in obese mice. Methods: Obese mice were administered cobalt protoporphyrin (CoPP) and HMOX activity inhibitor stannous mesoporphyrin (SnMP) for 6 weeks. Blood pressure, body weight and blood glucose levels were measured in all the groups. Glycogen content, hepatic fibrosis, heme levels, fatty acid synthase (FAS) and lipid droplet size in liver were also assessed. Results: CoPP administration increased hepatic HMOX1 protein levels and HMOX activity, decreased blood pressure, body weight, blood glucose levels, hepatic heme content (p<0.05) as compared to obese mice. Our results also showed that HMOX1 induction causes a significant decrease in lipid steatosis ( lipid droplet size and FAS levels; p<0.01) as compared to obese mice. Densitometry analysis showed increased expression of PPARα and Glut 1 along with decreased expression of PGC1α in hepatic tissue. These beneficial effects were reversed by administration of SnMP. Conclusion: This novel study demonstrates the role of hepatic HMOX1 in attenuating the fatty liver and metabolic homeostasis by decreasing PGC1α and heme content and enhancing glycogen levels. Pharmacological agents that increase HMOX1 levels or gene targeting of HMOX1 offer a promising therapeutic target for NAFLD and suggest the existence of a significant link between the heme-HMOX system and the extent and severity of heme-dependent fatty liver.

Introduction Acrochordons or skin tags are common benign cutaneous tumors that occur especially over the neck and major flexures. A possible association between diabetes mellitus and dyslipidemia is observed in numerous past studies with varying results. We aim to find out the association of diabetes mellitus with acrochordons Methods: One hundred patients were enrolled in our study. Among them, 50 (27 males and 23 females) with skin tags were selected as cases and 50 with other dermatologic diseases after matching age and gender were taken as controls. Blood glucose levels including both fasting and postprandial glucose levels were determined for both cases and controls and compared. Results: There was a higher frequency of Diabetes Mellitus and impaired glucose tolerance in patients with skin tags in comparison to controls (p<0.001). Moreover, there were higher odds of acquiring skin tags in patient with abnormal blood glucose levels. Conclusions: There is an increased risk of developing DM in patients with skin tags. It is highly recommended that suspicion for Diabetes Mellitus is to be done in patients with skin tags for early screening and diagnosis of Diabetes.

The process of germination of grains such as rice, could increase some nutritional values of  amino acids and dietary fiber. Red rice and its sprouts are believed to be able to decrease blood glucose in patients with diabetes mellitus (DM). The aim of this study was to evaluate the hypoglycemic effect of red rice sprouts in STZ-NA induced diabetic rats on blood glucose level, insulin level, and HOMA-IR and HOMA-β index. This experimental study was conducted based on randomized post test only control group design using 24 male Wistar rats aged 2.5 months. Rats were divided into 4 groups, one group without induction of STZ-NA fed with a standard diet (control) and three groups of STZ- NA induced with a standard diet, red rice and red rice germ. Experiments were conducted for 6 weeks. The results showed that sprouted red rice lowered blood glucose levels by 61.88 % and the value of HOMA-IR (insulin resistance parameters) by 56.82%. Insulin level increased by 16.35 % and HOMA-β by 763.6 %. This study showed that red rice germ was able to decrease blood glucose levels and increase insulin resistance of DM rats and the strength of the pancreatic beta cells. ABSTRAKProses perkecambahan biji-bijian seperti beras, dapat meningkatkan beberapa nilai gizi seperti asam amino dan serat pangan. Beras merah dan kecambahnya diyakini mampu menurunkan glukosa darah pada penderita diabetes melitus (DM). Tujuan penelitian ini adalah mengevaluasi efek hipoglikemik kecambah beras merah pada tikus diabetes yang diinduksi STZ-NA terhadap kadar glukosa darah, insulin, serta indeks HOMA-IR dan HOMA β. Penelitian ini bersifat eksperimental in vivo pada hewan coba tikus Wistar jantan usia 2,5 bulan sebanyak 24 ekor dengan desain penelitian randomized post test only control group. Tikus dibagi menjadi 4 kelompok, masing-masing 1 kelompok tanpa induksi STZ-NA dengan diet standar dan 3 kelompok diinduksi STZ-NA dengan diet standar, beras merah dan kecambah beras merah. Percobaan dilakukan selama 6 minggu. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan kecambah beras merah mampu menurunkan kadar glukosa darah sebesar 61,88 % dan nilai HOMA-IR (parameter resistensi insulin) 56,82 %. Kadar insulin meningkat 16,35 % dan HOMA β 763,6 %. Disimpulkan, kecambah beras merah mampu menurunkan kadar glukosa darah dan memperbaiki kondisi resistensi insulin tikus DM, dan kekuatan sel beta pankreas.

Objective: The objective of the present study was to determine the changes in the glucose level and lipid profile in patients withpolycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS). Study Design: Descriptive study. Place and Duration of the study: This study was conducted atInstitute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology, The University of Lahore from June 2009 to June 2010. Patients and Methods: Total 50patients with PCOS were included and 50 age-matched control subjects were also selected for comparison. Their glucose levels and lipidprofile were assessed using commercial kits. The data thus obtained was subjected to statistical analysis. Results: Significant differences(P<0.05) in fasting blood glucose level and individual parameters of lipid profile were observed in women with PCOS. A higher prevalence ofhypertriglyceridemia, hypercholesterolemia, higher LDL, lower HDL and higher fasting blood glucose levels was explored in PCOS womenthan controls. Conclusions: Abnormal glucose level and lipid profile in PCOS women showed that these women are at an increased risk ofdeveloping diabetes and subsequently cardiovascular diseases.

AimsThe aim of the audit was to identify patients at risk of developing Metabolic Syndrome who are on Clozapine in the community. Anyone who has three of following attributes has Metabolic Syndrome. A large waist size (greater than 40 inches in men or 35 inches in women) ,high blood pressure (130/85 mm Hg or higher) ,high triglycerides — a form of fat in the blood (150 mg/dL or higher) ,high blood sugar (a fasting level of 100 mg/dL or higher).Patients receiving should be regularly monitored under clinical review particularly in relation to side effects of the drug and maintain minimum standards of review both physically and clinical investigations once a year .BackgroundTo measure the screening of central obesity, Blood Pressure, serum glucose levels and lipid profile in last one year.MethodData were collected from Blood results and electronic entries of patients who are on Clozapine in South Ceredigion Community Mental Team. There were 31 patients of which 20 were male and 11 were female patients. The age range was 31–66 years and average was 46 years.Result52% of the patients had obesity,34 % with Hypertension,50 %Dyslipidaemia and 43 % had Increased glucose tolerance. 80 % were only on clozapine,3% were on combined Amisulpride, 10% on combined on Ariprazole, 3 % on combined Quetiapine.ConclusionTreatment of causes like making changing lifestyle changes, weigh reduction using health diet and to include regular physical activity. Reduce Abdominal Obesity and in possible provide nutritional intervention.

Mechanical thrombectomy (MT) represents the mainstay of treatment for patients with acute ischemic stroke due to large-vessel occlusion (LVO). Intravenous thrombolysis has been associated with worse clinical outcome in patients presenting with high blood glucose levels at admission; to date the true effect of hyperglycemia in the setting of MT has not been fully elucidated. In this meta-analysis, we analyzed the influence of high blood glucose levels at admission on clinical outcome after MT. Ovid EMBASE, PubMed, Scopus, and Cochrane Library databases were searched from their dates of inception up to March 2021. An initial search identified 2118 articles representing 1235 unique studies. After applying selection criteria, three prospective and five retrospective studies were analyzed, yielding a pooled cohort of 5861 patients (2041 who presented with hyperglycemia, and 3820 who presented with normal blood glucose levels). Patients in the hyperglycemia group were less likely to have a modified Ranking Scale (mRS) score <3 (risk ratio (RR): 0.65; 95% CI 0.59 to 0.72; p<0.0001; I2=13%), and had an increased risk of symptomatic intracranial hemorrhage (sICH) (RR: 2.07; 95% CI 1.65 to 2.60; p<0.0001; I2=0%) and mortality (RR: 1.73; 95% CI 1.57 to 1.91; p<0.0001; I2=0%). Patients who present with hyperglycemia and undergo MT for treatment of LVO have an increased risk of unfavorable clinical outcome, sICH, and mortality. Glucose levels at admission appear to be a prognostic factor in this subset of patients. Further studies should focus on evaluating control of the glucose level at admission as a modifiable risk factor in patients undergoing MT for LVO.
