This work aims to identify, classify, and categorize relevant activities regarding professional journalistic work in major disaster coverage, and develop a conceptual model that organizes them theoretically. We conducted a series of empirical data collection stages (background gathering through in-depth interviews and content analysis) and later applied the theory-building block approach that uses concepts to create and operationalize constructs. The main result is a six-dimension model based on the traditional questions of the journalistic process: How, why, who, when, what, and where. It comprehensively addresses the multiple aspects involved in disaster coverage: emotional, logistic, professional, and ethical challenges, as well as timing, key actors/roles, and their needs and demands according to the disaster type and stage they face. The model also brings together a group of potential activities journalists must confront and carry out when covering major disasters or highly significant social crises. Its main contribution is to make a useful theoretical tool available to academia and the media, striving for a versatile matrix management approach.

This study discusses the relations of belonging at school between supervisors and teachers, aiming to analyze in which relational group these authors belong more strongly. The Theory of Social Representations guided the research, in view of its construction processes, anchoring and objectification, to be closely linked to belonging, making the strange, familiar. Data collection was carried out through semi-structured and in-depth interviews distributed by: Classification by Elements of Meaning, Lexical Content Analysis and Thematic Analysis. The results point out, among other factors, that the construction of representations by social groups makes the stranger known to the subjects, pointing to belonging to the group of people or to the place, in addition, belonging is in the self and the other's recognition as part of the same group, not only based on affection, but on partnership, sharing and exchange of professional knowledge.

The aim of this research is to point out the patterns of media use of an inmate before the incarceration and the communication habits, as well as the compulsorily restricted media use during imprisonment. The purpose is to get insight of how the prisoners deal with the change of their situation and the subsequent use of traditional media such as letters and phone calls in order to keep in touch with their family and other social contacts. Deriving from the media repertoire approach, the research question is focused on the media use before and during imprisonment, which should clarify the change of patterns. In order to conduct a detailed exploration of a media repertoire on the personal level, the data collection has been conducted through semi-structured in-depth interviews with female prisoners from the German female prison TAF (Teilanstalt für Frauen) at the JVA Billwerder.

This article investigates the influence of scarcity of resources in entrepreneurial arrangements, known as strategic alliances. Revision of the literature suggests three theories: Resources Dependence, Resource Based View and Organizational Learning. The economic sector investigated was industrial automobile automation and the participant companies were chosen by judgment and because they had strategic alliances. Data collection took place in 2005 through in-depth interviews, which were submitted to content analysis. The results, in the light of the Resources Dependence Theory, reveal that companies form alliances for the acquisition of production technology because of the high investments demanded and owing to the seasonality of orders from automobile assembly plants.

This study examined and measured the impact of newspaper coverage on theatre publicity, popularity and patronage in Nigeria. The work appraises the extent to which Nigerian newspapers (by extension, the media) are contributing toward enhancing theatre publicity, popularity and patronage in Nigeria. The study utilized questions such as: do newspapers presently give attention to and thus provide publicity to theatres and their programmes? Is such attention worthwhile (adequate) under the present scheme of things or need to be intensified? How often do newspapers report theatre events? Do newspapers report theatre events more as features than as straight news, editorial or letters to editors? Coding schedule was used as the measuring instrument for data collection. A purposively selected sample comprising three Nigerian newspapers was studied. Content analysis research method was applied in carrying out the study. The study revealed that the contribution(s) of Nigerian newspapers to theatre popularity and patronage through publicity provided by their news coverage/feature stories is very minimal and grossly inadequate premised on the following findings: they do not give prominent attention to theatre events and programmes. They hardly report (place) news about theatre events and programmes on the front pages. They do not frequently report theatre events and programmes. Furthermore, they do not utilize features in presenting theatre events or programmes stories. The study therefore recommended that theatre producers and managers should intensify newspaper publicity options by setting up private newspapers or establishing mutually beneficial links with popular newspapers in view of promoting theatre publicity, popularity and patronage in Nigeria.

Since the early 1990s, the internet has dominated the attention of the media, academics and business organisations. It has the potential of being a revolutionary way to collect primary and secondary data, although much more research is needed to learn how to better harness its strengths. This project compares depth interviews collected online with depth interviews conducted face-to-face. Advantages and disadvantages are highlighted, as well as suggested strategies for successfully collecting online data. Major points are illustrated using data from a project in which both data collection techniques are employed. The online interview dataset included some of the strongest and some of the weakest interviews in the investigation. This paper argues that under some conditions online depth interviews can provide a useful complement to the traditional face-to-face interview. Sampling frame problems of non-representativeness, endemic in quantitative online data collection, is not problematic if the researcher is conducting an interpretive investigation. When the researcher's goal is not to quantify or generalise but instead to better understand a particular population, online data collection can complement other datasets, allow data triangulation and strengthen the trustworthiness of the findings.
