This study discusses the relations of belonging at school between supervisors and teachers, aiming to analyze in which relational group these authors belong more strongly. The Theory of Social Representations guided the research, in view of its construction processes, anchoring and objectification, to be closely linked to belonging, making the strange, familiar. Data collection was carried out through semi-structured and in-depth interviews distributed by: Classification by Elements of Meaning, Lexical Content Analysis and Thematic Analysis. The results point out, among other factors, that the construction of representations by social groups makes the stranger known to the subjects, pointing to belonging to the group of people or to the place, in addition, belonging is in the self and the other's recognition as part of the same group, not only based on affection, but on partnership, sharing and exchange of professional knowledge.

This study aims to examine how the concept of jihad and Tha’ifah manshurah psychologically and sociologically shape the strong basis of ideology and collective identities in jihadist community in Indonesia. Three former alumni of Afghanistan serve as key informants and three others play as secondary informants who provide the context of strengthening the jihad ideology and the formation of collective identities on the jihadists in Indonesia. In-depth interviews and review of documents, especially literature written directly by key informants, are used as data collection instruments. All the data that have been collected through interviews and review of documents are then analyzed by using the content analysis technique and thematic analysis. The study concludes that the jihad in the sense of fighting is considered as the only tool to fight the jihadist ideology that tends to perceive themselves as the chosen people of God to fight all the life.DOI: 10.15408/ajis.v16i1.2890

The purpose of this article is to examine the role of moral feelings—guilt and shame —in the emergence and aftermath of intimate violence, and the way in which these emotions affect the self and behaviors of those involved. This is a phenomenological study using content analysis of in-depth interviews with 20 male batterers and their female partners. The findings indicate that the extent of authenticity and assumption of responsibility concerning moral feelings will determine whether these will or will not lead to intimate violence. Thus it becomes possible to trace five alternative paths of the relationship between moral feelings and intimate violence. Implications for theorizing and future research about the role of moral feelings in intimate violence are suggested.

Research on the experience of growing older with autism is very limited. In this study, 13 people with autism aged over 50 years participated in semi-structured interviews about their experiences of diagnosis, social support and getting older. Interviews were analysed using thematic analysis. Three overarching themes were generated: difference, life review and longing for connection. Prior to diagnosis, individuals had awareness of their difficulties, attributed these to intrinsic difference and engaged in a deliberate process of reducing the visibility of this difference. Diagnosis prompted a process of life review and externalisation, whereby past negative experiences were reattributed to autism as opposed to the self. Loneliness, isolation and yearning for interpersonal connection were ubiquitous and longstanding. Autism support and social groups were highly valued, offering opportunities for belonging, acceptance and social comparison. Results highlight the similarity to younger age groups in terms of lived experience and need for greater support, particularly with respect to reducing isolation and improving access to diagnosis.

This article investigates the influence of scarcity of resources in entrepreneurial arrangements, known as strategic alliances. Revision of the literature suggests three theories: Resources Dependence, Resource Based View and Organizational Learning. The economic sector investigated was industrial automobile automation and the participant companies were chosen by judgment and because they had strategic alliances. Data collection took place in 2005 through in-depth interviews, which were submitted to content analysis. The results, in the light of the Resources Dependence Theory, reveal that companies form alliances for the acquisition of production technology because of the high investments demanded and owing to the seasonality of orders from automobile assembly plants.

This work aims to identify, classify, and categorize relevant activities regarding professional journalistic work in major disaster coverage, and develop a conceptual model that organizes them theoretically. We conducted a series of empirical data collection stages (background gathering through in-depth interviews and content analysis) and later applied the theory-building block approach that uses concepts to create and operationalize constructs. The main result is a six-dimension model based on the traditional questions of the journalistic process: How, why, who, when, what, and where. It comprehensively addresses the multiple aspects involved in disaster coverage: emotional, logistic, professional, and ethical challenges, as well as timing, key actors/roles, and their needs and demands according to the disaster type and stage they face. The model also brings together a group of potential activities journalists must confront and carry out when covering major disasters or highly significant social crises. Its main contribution is to make a useful theoretical tool available to academia and the media, striving for a versatile matrix management approach.

This study examined the effects of a declining economy on the profession of chartered accountants (CAs) in Zimbabwe. The study adopted a qualitative approach using a pragmatic grounded theory design. Primary data were obtained through in-depth interviews with five purposively sampled CAs and two key informants drawn from the professional body and an institution that trains CAs. Furthermore, secondary data were drawn from the professional body’s archives and from newspapers. Data from interviews and documents were analyzed through thematic analysis and content analysis, respectively. The study has revealed that the profession of CAs has been changing in response to the declining economy and the changes include losing its status and autonomy, increased competition from other accounting fields and compromised professional standards. It also emerged that professionals themselves engage in both negative and positive activities that enable them to survive the effects of a declining economy. Recommendations are provided for the professionals and the professional body in dealing with the impact of a precarious economy.

This study is aimed to examine seven selected allegories of Āryaśūra’s Jātakamālā engraved in Candi Borobudur, to analyze the multiple aspects of the six perfections (pāramitās) exemplified in them and how these perfections are applied in day-to-day life. The literature study involved data collection triangulation to determine the extant Jātakamālā and pāramitā texts closest to the sources. Content analysis on the Jātakamālā texts and observation of its corresponding reliefs were carried out to identify the message and substantial points of each allegory. Both the actions and the motivation driving the character to perform such actions are considered. Using thematic analysis, the actions performed are categorized and correlated with the definition and meaning of each pāramitā. The results of the research indicate that although emphasis may be placed more on a particular perfection, multiple aspects of the perfections are presented in each allegory. The practice of the six perfections which to be cultivated jointly by those walking the path to Perfect Awakening also represent the universal values of generosity, non-harmfulness, tolerance, joyous effort, vigilance, and wisdom. This study allows one to see Borobudur’s carved reliefs in a way, which will hopefully engender appreciation for the cultural heritages of our ancestors.
