The present study aimed at finding out the valuing strategies used by EFL teachers to enhance student’s creativity in writing. The present study made use of a qualitative approach to obtain data from the Discovery School students in Amman, Jordan and to determine the answers to the research questions. This study was carried out in the one hundred branches of Discovery Schools (DSs) located in Amman, Jordan for the Academic year 2018/2019. Using a convenience sample, ten EFL teachers were chosen as a sampling for the current study. The present study conducted interviews with EFL teachers and observed them. The participants were selected from the first secondary cycle as the cycle holds significance. To check the trustworthiness and credibility of qualitative data, the researcher utilized two strategies, triangulation and member check. The interview data analysis showed that eight teachers believed that using the strategy was important. On a negative note, the results from the observation showed that only three teachers actually employed this strategy among their teaching techniques. Further research is recommended on the same topic in different settings.

It is usual that researchers, in the process of transcribing interviews or even during data analysis, realize that important issues were superficially mentioned by the interviewees, but for several possible reasons, these topics were not explored by the researcher in-depth or properly. It is also common during the interview to not realize that certain content evoked by the participants are connected to the research questions that originated the study. Similarly, some content brought in by the interviewees may seem confusing, contradictory, or even insufficient to be subjected to protocols of qualitative data analysis. This article aims to present a technique that allows researchers to have a deeper and more accurate understanding of the subjective topics that may emerge through a qualitative approach: the reflexive interview. This technique consists of the engagement of the interviewer and interviewee in the process of elaboration and collective understanding of the interviewee’s perspectives and experiences. Rather than only reporting their experiences descriptively, interviewees, with the support of interviewers, have the opportunity to share the meanings of the reality surrounding them and the events of their own lives, without being interpreted arbitrarily only by the interviewer. This article intends to conceptualize the reflexive interview, pointing out its benefits and the procedures necessary to employ it in a qualitative study. Two case studies are presented to the reader to illustrate the reflexivity processes that can engage participants through this resource, as well as how reflexive interviewing promotes a deep understanding of participants’ perspectives. Finally, general recommendations are provided, including examples of questions that can compose a script of a reflexive interview. It is hoped that this article provides a new resource for researchers interested in more accurately embodying participants’ perspectives and experiences.

This qualitative study aims at exploring the collaborative learning strategies adopted by EFL teachers. The study also investigates the actual use of these strategies among the participants. Ten EFL teachers have been chosen based on the convenience sampling. To answer the research questions, the present study has made use of two instruments, namely interviews and observations.  The interview results revealed that the participating teachers expressed their opinions on how they used collaborative learning strategy for promoting their students’ creativity in EFL writing. Classroom observations revealed that all the teachers who claimed to employ this strategy used a combined set of collaborative teaching activities. Additional research should be conducted and results should be interpreted and spread in the field for effective professional development.

This article is the continuation of the work that has already been completed in a first study on the perception of engineering students at UniLaSalle Beauvais about education for sustainable development (SD) and innovation. Its purpose is to show the evolution over time of the perception of engineering students regarding SD and innovation after integrating the international program called “Go-LaSalle”. In this training process, students spend the second semester of their third academic year in partner universities of the worldwide Lasallian network. To identify and measure the change of students’ perception, we have designed a survey that was sent to two engineers’ training classes (specialties) Agronomy and Agro-Industries and Food and Health. The results show that although some differences and similarities appear between the two specialties, there are few significant changes on student’s perception before and after the six-month international program (called “Go-LaSalle”). Finally, the study shows, on the one hand, that the students trust the institution, the companies and their teachers more than their own inclinations; on the other hand, it allows the institution to adapt their training to both collective needs and the demands of the environment.

Early childhood caries (ECC) is developed a little after the beginning of the eruption of the first temporary teeth, it evolves rapidly and implicates a major risk of new lesions and urgent attention. Objective. To estimate the prevalence of ECC in pre-school students between three to five years of age, in the south of Mexico City. Methodology. Transversal and descriptive study, with a convenience sample of pre-school children. It was formed by 136 infants (82 girls and 54 boys), with previous informed consent from the parents, and whose average age was of 4.3±0.8 years. The clinical diagnose of the ECC was performed by two calibrated examiners (Kappa 0.89, P<0.001) following the WHO criteria. The analysis was made using the SPSS program with central trend measurements, dispersion and X2 (P<0.05). Results. The distribution of the population by gender and age did not show any significance differences (P>0.124). The presence of ECC affected 63.4% of the girls and 61.1% of the boys with no differences (P=0.786). The prevalence of ECC at three years of age was of 40.7%, at four of 78.9% and at five of 62% (P=0.007). The central superior incisor teeth had the highest number of surfaces with cavities, followed by the first molars, and the inferior lateral teeth were the least affected. The oclusal/incisal surface was the one that presented more cavities. Conclusions. The prevalence of ECC was high in this region of the city, and the most affected teeth were the central superior ones.
