The study aims to analyze diurnal migration of zooplankton in Ambon Bay. Data sampling method which is conducted stationary utilizes pontoon mooring as floating platform for acoustic data sampling. Based on the analysis, diurnal migration of zooplankton occurs at noon, zooplankton swims in water surface to epipelagic zone (0-20 m) with value of scattering volume value -90.13 dB to -100.30 dB; it indicates sparse and scattered aggregation (N=128). At night, scattering volume of -90.01 dB to -100.30 dB indicates dense and concentrated aggregation (N=75). Scattering volume is numerical expression of zooplankton density. Chlorophyll a concentration in depth of 0-10 meter having the highest value of 5.16 ppb highly affects the existence of zooplankton. It functions for food availability of pelagic fish as its carnivore.

Differences in acoustic estimates of small pelagic fish biomass, due to data acquisition during daytime and nighttime surveys, have been recognized for many years as a problem in acoustic surveys. In the absence of a single rule for all species and for all locations, some expert groups identified specific time intervals for acoustic data acquisition in relation to the schooling behavior of the target species. In the Mediterranean Sea, the research groups working in the MEDIAS (Mediterranean International Acoustic Survey) agreed on the importance that acoustic sampling are conducted only during day-time. Only when available time does not permit to complete the survey during daytime, data collection might be extended. In this case, working on data collected during both daytime and nighttime, a bias may occur in the biomass estimates. In order to evaluate and correct such bias, specific experiments were performed in some geographical sub-areas of the Mediterranean Sea. The data analysis allowed the estimation of a mean correction factor for the Strait of Sicily, where five surveys were carried out in different years. The correction factor was estimated also for the Adriatic Sea, Tyrrhenian Sea and Northern Spain; the observed variability among areas highlighted the importance of the spatial and temporal coverage of the survey area in order to obtain reliable estimates of the correction factor. Further studies are necessary to improve the interpretation of the obtained estimates in relation to area-related peculiarities such as zooplankton composition and abundance along with small pelagic fish community structure.

<p>With the rise in the popularity of Internet of Things (IoT) in-home health monitoring, the demand of data processing and analysis increases at the server. This is especially true for ECG data which has to be collected and analyzed continuously in real time. The data transmission and storage capacity of a simple home-use IoT system is often limited. In order to provide a responsive and reasonably high-resolution analysis over the data, the ECG recorder sampling rate must be tuned to an acceptable level such as 50Hz (compared to between 100Hz and 500Hz in lab), a huge amount of time series are to be gathered and dealt with. Therefore, a suitable sampling method that helps shorten the ECG data transformation time and uploading time is very important for cost saving.. In this paper, how to down sample the ECG data is investigated; instead of traditional data sampling methods, the use of a novel Brick-up Metaheuristic Optimization Algorithm (BMOA) that automatically optimizes the sampling of ECG data is proposed. By its adaptive design in choosing the most appropriate components, BMOA can build in real-time a best metaheuristic optimization algorithm for each device user assuming no two ECG data series are exactly identical. This dynamic pre-processing approach ensures each time the most optimal part of the ECG data series is harvested for health analysis from the raw data, in different scenarios from different users. In this study various application scenarios using real ECG datasets are simulated. The experimentation is tested with one of the most commonly used ECG classification methods, Long Short-Term Memory Network. The result shows the ECG data sampling by BMOA is indeed adaptive, the classification efficiency is improved, and the data storage requirement is reduced.</p>

Studies of krill (Crustacea: Euphausiacea) in oceanic waters of the Bay of Biscay are scarce and restricted to the epipelagic zone, overlooking vertical dynamics such as diurnal vertical migration (DVM). There is a growing interest in acoustically evaluating the biomass of krill in this area, but this requires a good knowledge of its vertical dynamics and aggregation patterns. In this work we employed acoustic data and net samples from two consecutive annual surveys covering a wide off-shelf area of the Bay of Biscay (JUVENA surveys of 2013 and 2014) and four seasonal surveys covering slope and oceanic waters in the Cantabrian Sea (SCAPA surveys of 2015). Vertical dynamics of krill were analyzed in the frame of the environmental seascape. High interannual and seasonal variations in the vertical distribution and aggregation patterns (small swarms, dense aggregations, or loose layers) of krill were observed. The vertical distribution covaried with dissolved oxygen and salinity. According to our findings, the best season to acoustically evaluate krill in the Bay of Biscay is spring, with the bulk of the biomass located above 600 m depth. Moreover, extending the acoustic recording beyond the epipelagic zone is mandatory for any season.
