Through the example of organization of a holistic inclusive atmosphere in the „Pedagogical State University Mozyrsk, named I.P. Shamyakin“ (Belarus), this article presents an organizational model for the socialization of diverse heterogeneous groups of students. These students are foreign-language speakers, or come from families with different religious backgrounds, have physical and/or mental challenges, come from families with social problems, have special capabilities in various activity fields, or belong to different youth subcultures. Based on the resulting data the authors recommend an original organizational model for the socialization of heterogeneous student groups in university contexts. This model includes external as well as internal structures. It is concerened with facilitating focused and comprehensive work with different heterogeneous groups of students. The authors suggest a catalogue of competencies for pedagogues and educational managers working in an inclusive educational space. Organizational stages of socializing activities in the various heterogeneous groups in the inclusive sphere of the university are connected to a list of priority tasks for each stage. Also explicated are the function of the structural organization of the university and the respective working platforms of the pedagogues and leading staff. The article presents and generalizes the concrete experiences of the work with heterogeneous student groups in the university.

This paper discusses recent uses of information and communication technologies (ICTs) in fostering Internet-based projects for learning English as a Foreign Language (EFL) at the Faculty of Foreign Languages in Yakutsk State University, Russia.  It covers the authors’ experiences integrating   distance education and creating educational resources within the Moodle LMS and wiki projects based on Web 2.0 social networking technologies. Also it discusses our international project, Net-based Course Development: English through Digital Storyline, in cooperation with the University of Tromsø, Norway.

The Corona pandemic has led to worldwide efforts to create new and innovative concepts for digital learning. In this article, we present a projectoriented seminar that took place at the University of Greifswald and St. Petersburg State University in the winter semester of 2018. In this project seminar students of both universities worked on memory spaces that are at the same time a part of the collective memory of both German- and Russian-speaking discourse communities. After giving an outline on the concept of memory spaces, this article presents the project, which combined parallel work at the two participating universities with study visits of student groups from each university to the partner university. We end with reflections on how such seminars can serve as a basis for virtual academic mobility.

Automating scheduling is a classic task in learning management systems. The process of scheduling is, in a sense, the final one in the chain of support of educational activities, and its automation reveals all inconsistencies and shortcomings of the previous processes. In order for the scheduling to be automated as much as possible, a lot of various initial information should be processed in the information systems of the university — curricula, staff, workload, schedule of the educational process, contingent of students, classroom fund. It is especially difficult for universities with educational programs of various orientations — natural science, humanitarian, creative, etc., which have specific principles for organizing and conducting classes.The level of automation of educational activities at Dostoevsky Omsk State University, a classical university with a wide variety of types of educational programs, made it possible to tackle the task of scheduling. However, during the implementation of the automated scheduling system, the project team faced a number of problems.The article describes the results of the project for the transition to an electronic schedule in Dostoevsky Omsk State University using the circulation software product 1C:Automated scheduling. University based on the 1C:Enterprise 8.3 system. Initial data on the individual workload of teachers, the classroom fund, the list of student groups, and the list of disciplines were loaded into the configuration from the existing information system of design of Dostoevsky Omsk State University. Based on the results of the audit of the downloaded reference information, the initial data, including curricula, were normalized. The compiled schedule in two modes (manual and automatic) was published on the official website of the university and is used to operate a chatbot on the VKontakte network to inform students and teachers about upcoming classes.

The article deals with the foreign language training in Russian Universities and the development of professional competencies of the graduates. The reasons for employers’ dissatisfaction with the quality of young personnel’s education are analyzed. An interdisciplinary model of professionally oriented foreign language teaching is considered as one of the means of students’ competencies forming. The potential of project tasks in this model is described, and their advantages in comparison with traditional foreign language teaching methods are indicated. The authors present the system of individual and group projects in English used in Petrozavodsk State University. Besides, the authors describe the stages of students ’activities, give specific examples of projects and analyze difficulties in organizing students’ project work. The article contains an analysis of the results of student surveys confirming the feasibility of using professionally-oriented project tasks in teaching a foreign language at a university.

Kemerovo State University, the largest institution of higher education in Kuzbass, has a significant contingent of foreign students. The article is devoted to pedagogical interaction modeling of teaching a foreign language in multiethnic groups of the University. The basis for modeling is the textbook of English designed specifically for students of different ethnic groups in order to develop different language skills along with the skills of proper intercultural interaction, successful social adaptation, as well as self-education skills. The content of the textbook is divided into thematic units - modules. Special attention is paid to the text selection as a main communicative and didactic unit of educational content. The practical tasks are classified into three groups. The first group tasks are based on the teaching methods and techniques outside the communicative reality. The second group tasks involve teaching in educational communicative reality. The third group tasks are developed to contribute teaching in natural communicative reality.

The article is devoted to the consideration of the process of the successive formation of metasubject results in the framework of project / research activities of students in the context of learning foreign languages. In this regard, the requirements for the degree of formation of metasubject skills formed within the subject of "Foreign language" at various levels of education and taking into account the stages of project activity (including research project) – goal setting, organization and planning, implementation, reflection, presentation. The article describes a project conducted by the Department of foreign languages and linguodidactics of Irkutsk state University called "the Future in the project", implemented in the framework of the subjects "Methodology of teaching foreign languages" at the University and "Foreign language" at school in order to implement the continuity of the content of teaching project/research activities of students at different levels of education.

This paper considers the problem of blended learning as a means of foreign students’ integration into higher school environment. This process is not that simple, it demands special methods to help foreign students to be integrated easily. The use of blended learning in education facilitates easy students’ integration and leads to positive learning results. However, the application of blended learning is connected with challenges both educators and foreign students can face. The aim of the article is to consider and assess the use of blended learning at the lessons of English implemented into a university educational process. For that purpose, we applied such methods as a needs analysis (among lecturers of English from South Ural State University), a questionnaire and an interview (among three groups of students from similar bachelor’s programs). The findings show that the majority of those surveyed do understand the importance of blended learning as a means of foreign students’ integration, but they are not familiar with the types and how to use them. Based on the results of this analysis, the authors applied blended learning into the process of English teaching, such as flipped classroom, station rotation, and a new online language development course, “Methodological support to the textbook by McCarthy, M. “Touchstone”. The drawn conclusions indicate that blended learning allows not only to boost foreign language skills, but to promote easy foreign students’ integration into the educational process of the university.

The paper discusses the methodological aspects of audio-visual materials use in teaching students a foreign language and translation. The advantages of using video materials in the university educational process are described. A brief overview of teaching technologies is presented, including the technology of writing subtitles, audiovisual technology for shooting video by students, as well as technologies for viewing video in a silent and freeze-frame mode. A new audiovisual technology for teaching a foreign language to undergraduate students of a technical profile with the use of VideoAnt and MindMeister electronic resources to create a mental map is considered in detail. This three-stage technology, which is based on the use of advertising video material from the American company CISCO, has been tested at the St. Petersburg State University of Telecommunications named after Professor M.A. Bonch-Bruevich (SPbSUT) for students majoring in Service. There are also four formats of assignments for oral and written summary translation of video clips for master students of the translation profile of Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University (SPbPU). According to the survey of the students majoring in linguistics, the most interesting and useful task for future translators was the task of interpreting video fragments in the classroom mode. A brief analysis of the questionnaire survey results of two students samples, technical and linguistic training profiles, is given, most of whom preferred to perform audiovisual tasks in the mode of psychologically more comfortable extracurricular independent work. The mode of independent out-of-class work with video materials, well tested during the period of self-isolation, is preferred by 60% of the students from two samples. The proposed application of audiovisual aids for teaching foreign languages and translation to university students is shown to be efficient.

The importance of correct English pronunciation is growing due to its central role in communication and the speaker’s identity. Non-native English speakers lack a natural linguistic environment and tend to carry articulation rules and intonation from their mother tongue. Modern conditions of the fast-paced world require a revision of the forms and methods of the educational process. Teachers should engage students in independent and individual work at classes, increase the use of practical and research tasks. Information technologies in the teaching process at different levels of education (both school and university) change the roles of all participants in the educational process. Thus, teachers are given more opportunities to improve their work, and students are taught a foreign language at a higher level. The article aims to state the advantages of using multimedia technologies as an educational tool in teaching English practical phonetics and to find out university students’ attitude to it. The object of the research is the benefits of working in a language laboratory, equipped with Rinel-Lingo (a multimedia language programme to train phonetics of a foreign language of university students). The article analyzes the results of the survey conducted in Murmansk arctic state university.

The creation and educational impact of a reciprocal travel exchange program for student groups in horticulture and allied sciences between Iowa State University (ISU) and the University of Costa Rica (UCR) are described. The program, called the “Intercambio,” (“exchange,” in English), has facilitated group travel for 10- to 12-day periods to farms and agricultural research centers in the host country annually since 1999. The article explores how the Intercambio began and factors that have helped to sustain it, to provide ideas for educators interested in initiating similar exchanges. Analysis of responses to a 2015 written survey of student participants indicated that the Intercambio has exerted a strong impact on academic studies and career choices for 77% of the ISU students and 100% of the UCR students, as well as amplifying interest in the other country and raising cultural understanding and tolerance.
