Background: The social appearance anxiety and eating attitudes are the main problems that concern people of all ages, professions and genders. It is estimated that physical education teachers, who in sight with their physical appearance, experience these concerns more intensely. Aim: This study was conducted to determine the relationship between social appearance anxiety and eating attitudes in physical education teachers and to examine those properties with respect to certain demographic variables. Methods: A total of 286 physical education teachers, 98 female (X̅age = 35.65 ± 6.90) and 188 male (X̅age = 38.13 ± 8.87), working in public and private schools, participated in the study voluntarily. Data collection tools included a demographic information form along with the“Social Appearance Anxiety Scale” and “Eating Attitudes Test”. Descriptive statistics, the t-test, Pearson correlation analysis, and one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) were used to analyze the data. Results: The results indicated that social appearance anxiety and eating attitudes did not differ according to the variables of gender and exercise regime. However, social appearance anxiety scores were found to differ according to socioeconomic status, with participants reporting higher income levels exhibiting greater appearance anxiety. A weak positive relationship was revealed between social appearance anxiety and body mass index. The aim of this study is to investigate the relationship between emotional intelligence skills and self-efficacy levels among physical education teachers from the teachers' own perspective. The researchers developed two scales that measure the emotional intelligence skills; and another one to measure self-efficacy levels for physical education teachers. These two scales were applied on (70) teachers from public and private schools of the Salt Directorate of Education in Jordan. The results show a strong relationship between the emotional intelligence skills and self-efficacy levels among physical education teachers. Therefore, the results also showed that the physical education teachers have high levels of emotional intelligence skills and self-efficacy levels. Also, the results show the presence of statistically significant differences between teachers in the emotional intelligence skills for the benefit of male teachers, and between public and private schools for public schools. The researchers have recommended that it is necessary to teach some training programs about emotional intelligence to physical education teachers in both public and private schools and universities.

ObjectivesThe Social Appearance Anxiety Scale (SAAS) is a 16-item questionnaire developed to evaluate fear of appearance-based evaluation by others. The primary objective of this research was to investigate the existence of differential item functioning (DIF) for the 16 SAAS items, comparing patients who completed the SAAS in English and French, either to confirm that scores are comparable or provide guidance on calculating comparable scores. A secondary research objective was to investigate the existence of DIF based on sex and disease status. A tertiary research objective was to assess DIF related to language, sex, and disease status on the recently developed SAAS-5.DesignThis was a cross-sectional analysis using baseline data from patients enrolled in the Scleroderma Patient-centred Intervention Network (SPIN).SettingSPIN patients included in the present study were enrolled at 43 centres in Canada, USA, UK, France and Australia, with questionnaires completed in April 2014 to July 2019.Participants1640 SPIN patients completed the SAAS in French (n=600) or English (n=1040).Primary and secondary measuresThe SAAS was collected along with demographic and disease characteristics.ResultsSix items were identified with statistically significant language-based DIF, four with sex-based DIF and one with disease type-based DIF. However, factor scores before and after accounting for DIF were similar (Pearson correlation >0.99), and individual score differences were small. This was true for both the full and shortened versions of the SAAS.ConclusionSAAS and SAAS-5 scores are comparable across language, sex, and disease-type, despite small differences in how patients respond to some items.

The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between a principal’s transformational leadership and creative teaching behavior of physical education teachers at junior and senior high schools in Taiwan (at the individual level) and the cross-level effect on creative teaching behaviors of physical education teachers in an innovative school climate (at the school level) and the moderator effect of an innovative school climate on the relationship between a principal’s transformational leadership and creative teaching behaviors of physical education teachers. A total of 800 questionnaires were distributed to physical education teachers at 59 junior and senior high schools and 477 valid surveys were collected for data analysis. Using hierarchical linear modeling, we found that at the individual level, a principal’s transformational leadership has a positive impact on creative teaching behaviors of physical education teachers, and at the school level, an innovative school climate has a positive impact on creative teaching behaviors (at the person level) of physical education teachers. An innovative school climate at the school level has no moderating effects on the relationship between a principal’s transformational leadership and creative teaching behaviors of physical education teachers. This study provides implications and applications for cross-level studies, and builds the foundation for future multilevel research.
