The COVID-19 pandemic has changed the world. It changed the way we do business, and it changed our lives in terms of socializing. Nevertheless, it also brought essential changes in the educational segment. This school year, at the tertiary level, courses’ contents and examinations are primarily done online in Slovenia due to the pandemic. In this paper, we examine the perceptions and challenges the third-year students of the Learning and knowledge management course conducted at the School of Economics and Business, University of Ljubljana, are facing. Specifically, we are interested in the challenges the students encountered during the transition to online learning due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the advantages and disadvantages of online learning, as perceived by students. What was used as the method to collect and analyze the data was personal reflection and content analysis. The findings show that students are facing different challenges. Nevertheless, also several advantages and disadvantages related to the online learning process are identified. We conclude by providing practical examples for pedagogical staff to ease the transition for students and avenues for future research. Borneo Island is the third largest island in the world, rich in natural resources, biodiversity and cultural diversity. The uniqueness of Borneo is that it is home to three countries; Malaysia, Indonesia and Brunei Darussalam, each with their own valuable cultural heritage. One of the unique aspects of the Borneo archipelago is the shared wealth of civilizations derived from the dissemination of Islam. Treasures known as the “Borneo Islamic Heritage" are not only valuable as cultural artefacts that need to be preserved, but they can also be elevated and commercialised as regional economic drivers. This paper discusses the Idahan manuscript written in Jawi script as one of the treasures of Islamic intellectual legacy in Borneo. The method of study is based on content analysis which depicts the descriptive history of the discovery of the Idahan Jawi manuscript. This manuscript not only serves as evidence of the early embrace of Islam in Sabah, but also as a reference to matters pertaining to religion and the laws of Islamic jurisprudence. This factor leads the Idahan community be considered as the first native people embracing Islam at the east coast of Sabah. The contribution of this study is to enhance understanding of the development of Islamic heritage in Borneo Island and to inculcate the spirit of solidarity among the people living in the region.

COVID-19 is a virus originating from Wuhan, China that spread rapidly throughout the world. Indonesia began to be infected since the beginning of March 2020. The impact of the spread of COVID-19 caused losses to many countries, especially in the economic field. In the field of education, learning activities carried out in class are replaced online as a result of the spread of COVID-19 starting from elementary school to tertiary level. This study uses descriptive qualitative methods that describe online learning activities at STMIK Komputama Majenang during the COVID-19 pandemic that was held at home online. The object consists of 5 students of STMIK Komputama Majenang. Data collection was carried out using a questionnaire containing questions related to online learning at STMIK Komputama Majenang during the COVID-19 pandemic. Based on the results of research, online learning activities at STMIK Komputama Majenang have been effective and run well. Some applications used in online learning are Web E-learning, WhatsApp, Telegram, Edmodo, YouTube, Zoom, and Google Classroom. Constraints experienced during online learning are problems with a bad internet connection, limited quota, difficulty in learning, and the presence of other people's distractions when learning takes place.

In the advent of CoViD 19 pandemic, education sector around the world try to ensure learning continuity for children and youth through different learning delivery modalities. In most cases, efforts involve the use of various digital platforms featuring educational content, and a variety of educational technology (EdTech) solutions to keep communication and learning spaces as open and stimulating as possible (Moreno & Gortazar, 2020). Realizing the advantages of online learning deliviery of lessons, this study study aimed to determine the readiness of teachers for online learning in the Division of Antique for School Year 2020-2021 as basis for the development of a strategic plan for effective adoption of of online. The global economy brings about new trends, challenges, and needs, which require new solutions. Social innovations can have a major role in satisfying unmet social needs and increasing overall well-being. Measuring social innovation is therefore an important task with the purpose of informing the stakeholders about the performance value that an innovation creates. Standard accounting tools often neglect social or environmental impact, and thus, new or adjusted methods need to be developed. The objective of this chapter is to analyze methods of measuring social innovation and discuss advantages and disadvantages of traditional measures versus new approaches with the purpose of better understanding the significance of social innovation in the global economy. The chapter consists of six parts. After the introduction follows the literature review. The third part of the chapter discusses different approaches to measuring innovations while the fourth part suggests some new approaches to measuring social innovations. The fifth part describes future research perspectives. The final part is the conclusion.

Even if the use of distance learning and E-learning has a long tradition all over the world and both have been used to keep in contact with students and to provide lessons, support and learning materials, there is an open debate on the balance between advantages and disadvantages in the use of distance learning. This debate is even more central in their use to support students with Learning Disabilities (LDs), an overarching group of neurodevelopmental disorders that affect more than 5% of students. The current COVID-19 outbreak caused school closures and the massive use of E-learning all over the world and it put higher attention on the debate of the effects of E-learning. This paper aims to review papers that investigated the positive and negative effects of the use of Distance Learning and E-learning in students with LDs. We conducted a literature review on the relationship between Distance Learning, E-learning and Learning Disabilities, via Scopus, Eric and Google Scholar electronic database, according to Prisma Guidelines. The findings are summarized using a narrative, but systematic, approach. According to the data resulting from the papers, we also discuss issues to be analyzed in future research and in the use of E-learning during the current pandemic of COVID-19.

This chapter discusses and evaluates research on cross-cultural communication differences in online learning at the university level. It starts out by discussing the growth of online education in recent years and the historical context of online education. The chapter then evaluates research on differences in cross-cultural online learning primarily between university students from the Western part of the world compared to students from the East. Barriers in cross-cultural online education cited in the literature include language, technology, and instructional design. Future research on Western-based online education should assess cross-cultural differences for students from other parts of the world including Africa, the Caribbean, and Latin America.

In recent years, the technological improvements of mobile devices in terms of computational capacity, embedded sensors, natural interaction, and high-speed connection are enabling an ever-increasing number of designers to develop advanced mobile applications to be used in everyday life. Among these, the vision-based applications for the automatic object recognition (AOR) play a key role since enabling users to interact with the world around them in innovative way makes more productive and profitable their entertainment, learning, and working activities. The chapter is divided into four sections. The first one, “Background,” explores the most recent works in AOR mobile applications highlighting the feature extraction processes and the implemented classifiers. The second one, “MV Development Technologies,” provides an overview of the current frameworks used to support the mobile AOR applications. The third one, “Future Research Trends,” discusses the aims of the next generation of AOR applications. Finally, “Conclusion” concludes the chapter.

In January 2020, an unprecedented pandemic hit the world. Although it was the middle of a holiday period, Chinese teachers mobilised. In a very short time, the school year started online and distance learning was introduced. Everyone had to deal with the advantages and disadvantages of this new form of teaching. One month after the start of the school year, we conducted a survey to better understand the requirements of distance work, to find out the strong and weak points in order to start thinking about solutions to better conduct this new form of teaching.

For this reason, in this study 80 prospective teachers will attendduring 2014-2015 school year in Education Faculties of OndokuzMayıs University and Marmara University. Four different social themed posters selected which contains different values like respect, peace, sensitivity and tolerance, to state how their opinion about social issues. These posters will show to participants and ask about their opinion. The results will evaluate with content analysis.</p><p> </p>

Aim/Purpose: To investigate anxiety in online courses and its relationship with overall online courses satisfaction as it may vary with online courses experience. Background: Delivering online courses in higher education institutions continue to increase. Anxieties seem to be persistent. Although there are many technology and internet related anxieties studies, online courses anxieties are relatively scarce. The cause for this anxiety has not been resolved or addressed sufficiently. This study takes part in this quest. Methodology: A fully online course with not face to face interaction was used for the study. A survey methodology approach was used for the anxiety scale measurements. Over 1400 students participated in the survey. Contribution: Students taking online courses continue to be challenged with anxieties. Their experiences (number of courses taken) with online courses may influence their anxieties and satisfaction levels, but that has not been studies. We contribute to this body of literature. Findings: One third of students reported to continue to experience anxiety while taking their online courses. The effect of their anxieties on their satisfaction does not seem to be influenced by their online course experience. Recommendations for Practitioners: Focus on the various elements that may influence anxieties and satisfaction of students while taking courses. For IT designers, interface and point of interactions may be the aspect to pay attention to, while professors would need to consider course pedagogy and its interaction within the IT learning environment. Recommendation for Researchers: Anxiety in online learning should take front stage as it represents an underlying stream of influence on all research in the field. Further study of the effect of online course experience on satisfaction and anxiety is necessary. Impact on Society: Anxiety in learning has many detrimental effects that last a student’s career and personality over their entire life. The impact of reducing anxieties while online learning is significant and tangible especially that online learning is at its initial stages of an exponential growth and will change the world sooner than later. Future Research: Pedagogy for efficient and effective online courses to reduce anxieties and in-crease satisfaction.
