Objective of the study: Analyze how Horizontal Innovation enables a company to produce radical and incremental innovations, making it ambidextrous.Methodology/approach: The research is a case study at a mature Brazilian company that puts Horizontal Innovation based on its Employee Suggestion System (ESS) into practice. A total of 18 interviews were conducted, including: all 4 directors and all 10 managers of the organization, in addition to 2 coordinators and 2 researchers.Originality/Relevance: The paper creates and defines the concept of Horizontal Innovation: a type of innovation that originates from all employees, usually stemming from an ESS. The study shows, based on continual ESS operations, how a company can achieve ambidexterity and systematically produce incremental, radical products and processes.Main results: ESS produces radical innovations as well as incremental ones, although the latter occur more frequently, and lead to Horizontal Innovations. The systematic search for Horizontal Innovations paves the way for a company to become ambidextrous, promoting, with the same competence, these two types of innovation.Theoretical/methodological contributions: The study contributes to the debate that defends the viability of innovative ambidexterity, and to new insights that clarify how a culture that stimulates ambidexterity can influence the ambidextrous behavior of employees through Horizontal InnovationPractical implications: A new type of innovation is proposed and described, reinforcing the value of an ESS as an important management tool. The case enables comparisons and contrasts with others for best practices benchmarking.

The issue of Russian interference in the 2016 U.S. Presidential election has been widely debated by scholars and journalists. However, these works have not fully analyzed the ads that have been released by Facebook and the U.S. Congress. This project uses a case study to analyze the ads posted by the Russian-affiliated Internet Research Agency, considering the quantities of ads targeted to particular geographic locations, the frequency of targeting for unique keywords, and the reach and impressions of each of the ads. Further, these results are compared to results from best practices in traditional social media campaigns as a way to better understand the goals and potential impacts of the IRA ads. In conclusion, the project, by analyzing the full set of IRA ads, sheds new light on the way false information narratives were leveraged by the Russian-linked IRA.

Currently, the challenge for researchers and managers in the area of knowledge management is to study methods and models that promote and facilitate the acquisition, retention, distribution and utilization of knowledge by individuals and groups of organizations. The main objective of this paper is to analyze how a company that operates in multi-site service sector is organized internally in order to retain the acquired knowledge. The research strategy used is the simple case study, applied in a large multinational company. The findings points out that the service providing organizations should focus their knowledge retention process in a specific department toward this goal. This department has the task of identifying and registering the best practices and learned lessons among all the employees working on different clients in databases, in addition, to promote the integration of these employees in order to promote the distribution of tacit knowledge.

Abstract In recent years sustainability has become an important issue in business in a variety of industries. Those companies that succeed to integrate a fair balance between economic interests and the concerns about environment and social equity have had to integrate a core of sustainability values that guide their behavior in the way to do business. The leaders of the organizations have to design strategies not just to add value to their products or services, but to match the new frame of ethical and moral values of the company. This new way to do business is having a deep impact in the competitiveness of organizations as a result of the savings in the supply chain and in the way they are perceived by consumers and society. The postmodern vision of the business organization has incorporated new and far-reaching modifications to the traditional view of leadership resulting in a new type called “sustainability leadership”. This work uses a case study mixed method research will focus on determining and analyzing the characteristics of this new kind of leadership and its relationship with competitiveness in a very traditional and influencing hotel of Mazatlán, an important tourist destination of Mexico, which has been successful in reaching sustainability certifications for a number of years. The study will show the perception of key informants about the leadership and its degree of success regarding the business competitiveness and sustainability issues. It will also show the degree of fulfillment of sustainability according to an instrument designed for this purpose.

One of the most important stages in the budget drafting process is the sales forecasting. As a matter of fact, the sales affect the whole activity of a company, their variation being considered the main risk factor for the performance and the financial position of the company. Sales forecasting starts with analyzing the turnover over a longer period of time. It includes all the studies and calculations made in order to determine the potential market to which the company can get access, as well as the part of it that the company is estimated to cover. There are several methods for planning the amount of sales, each company being able to choose one or more such methods. All the sales forecasting methods have advantages and disadvantages; however, in practice it was proved that most large companies use a combination of several methods. However, when there are seasonal variations each year, the seasonal coefficient method is used in order to forecast the sales. The exemplification of this method is done on the level of an production industrial company.

Santa Fe, New Mexico, is a unique city with an indigenous and multicultural history that serves as a case study for earth-psyche relationships, but it is also an image that encompasses many of the problems and complexes of Western Civilization. This article explores the many underground aspects of the image of “Santa Fe,” including the attraction so many people feel for its mythos and the way it represents a new type of relationship to psyche and earth. At the same time, the paper reveals the projections and complexes that outsiders bring to Santa Fe with often toxic results.

This chapter analyzes the traditional, ‘Weberian’ bureaucratic powers of the international secretariats of international organizations (IOs). It argues that globalization is opening up new, post-Weberian power bases for secretariats and IOs at large which were not envisaged in Weber's time. These new power bases include emerging global networks of cooperation between secretariats and other actors involved in global governance, which further reinforce the bureaucratic powers of secretariats by enabling them to exchange expertise and specialized information, best practices, and lessons learned in a flexible and swift manner. The chapter draws upon an in-depth case study of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Secretariat to illustrate the way in which secretariats exert the aforementioned Weberian and post-Weberian powers in practice.

The author explores the use of ecological-footprint analysis for evaluating and communicating the environmental implications of transport alternatives within a company travel plan. From a case study of the Vodafone headquarters in Newbury, a component ecological footprint methodology is developed that employs geographic information systems (GIS) and network analysis to model the impacts of commuting activity prior to and after implementation of the company's ‘green travel plan’. Having provided an in-depth exploration of the footprint approach, the author considers the extent to which ecological footprinting may be used as a management tool for formulating, implementing, and refining company travel plans, in addition to its well-established role as a metaphor for communicating the consequences of consumption.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to help businesses understand that as markets change, the way a company does business also must change to stay competitive in their industry. A company needs to know their share of the market to develop strategies to stay competitive and survive. This case study takes you through a successful company’s recognition and transformation involving all aspects of the organization. Cross-functional teams were developed to improve existing processes and develop new ones, as well as educate their people along the way. Design/methodology/approach The case study explains the process taken to help the company make the required changes to stay competitive. The company’s transformation happened through the application of Agile Construction® and the implementation of design teams to develop and test new or improved company processes and procedures. Once the improvements proved successful, the new standardized way of doing business was introduced to the rest of the organization. Tools were introduced to enhance the new processes and make them visible to the entire organization. Findings It was found that working together as a team and learning together to create standardized processes improved the company’s overall profitability, increased sales and expanded their market share. It takes a lot of dedication and hard work along the way to improve. The process also proved that the team has to work toward the same goals for the transformation to be successful. Practical implications Changes to practice that must be made is that communication is key among everyone involved in the organization. Also, there is value in understanding that the organization’s way of thinking needs to change to a learning organization. Originality/value Any organization, whether a company or an institution, can benefit from reading this case study. It is important to understand that the way of doing work changes over time and improvements have to be made to be successful in any industry. Team work is also important, so that everyone is reaching for a common goal.

This aims to review and analyze the Jordanian experiment in the developmental regional planning field within the decentralized managerial methods, which is considered one of the primary basic provisions for applying and success of this kind of planning. The study shoed that Jordan has passed important steps in the way for implanting the decentralized administration, but these steps are still not enough to established the effective and active regional planning. The study reveled that there are many problems facing the decentralized regional planning in Jordan, despite of the clear goals that this planning is trying to achieve. These problems have resulted from the existing relationship between the decentralized administration process’ dimensions from one side, and between its levels which ranged from weak to medium decentralization from the other side, In spite of the official trends aiming at applying more of the decentralized administrative policies, still high portion of these procedures are theoretical, did not yet find a way to reality. Because any progress or success at the level of applying the decentralized administrative policies doubtless means greater effectiveness and influence on the development regional planning in life of the residents in the kingdom’s different regions. So, it is important to go a head in applying more steps and decentralized administrative procedures, gradually and continuously to guarantee the control over any negative effects that might result from Appling this kind of systems.   © 2018 JASET, International Scholars and Researchers Association
