Objective: Build a matrix of indicators, according to the conceptual perspective of the BSC, adapting to the dimensions of sustainability related to family ranchingMethodology: A qualitative approach was used, carrying out a bibliographic and documentary study, in addition to interviews with rural producers and specialists on the subject.Originality: Historically, there is a lack of tools and management methodologies for the work context, especially in view of the new environmental and sustainability requirements. Thus, the work contributes to mitigate this gap in the context.Main results: The work generated a proposal / matrix with sustainability indicators for family livestock. Matrix composed of 28 indicators distributed in the four dimensions (environmental, economic, productive and social) of sustainability.Theoretical/methodological contributions: The main methodological contribution was to describe the process of how to propose a matrix of indicators, using planning tools such as the SWOT matrix and the BSC. Producers and specialists contributed to the construction of the SWOT matrix, later also contributed to the construction of the indicator matrix, in order to tend to the SWOT matrix.Social contributions/to management: As a social contribution we can mention the issue of the matrix of indicators being supported by the four dimensions of sustainability. For management, the matrix itself, in addition to the specifications of each indicator, which can enable better management of family ranching properties.

As woodworking and construction technologies improve, the construction of multi-storey timber buildings is gaining popularity worldwide. There is a need to look at the design of existing buildings and assess their sustainability. The aim of the present study is to assess the sustainability of modern high-rise timber buildings using multi-criteria assessment methods. The paper presents a hierarchical system of sustainability indicators and an assessment framework, developed by the authors. Based on this framework, the tallest timber buildings in different countries, i.e., Mjøstårnet in Norway, Brock Commons in Canada, Treet in Norway, Forte in Australia, Strandparken in Sweden and Stadthaus in UK, were compared across the three dimensions of sustainability (environmental, economic/technological, and social). Research has revealed that none of the buildings is leading in all dimensions of sustainability. However, each building is unique and has its own strengths. Overall multi-criteria assessment of the buildings revealed that the Brock Commons building in Canada has received the highest rank in all dimensions of sustainability. The paper contributes to the theory and practice of sustainability assessment and extends the knowledge about high-rise timber buildings. The proposed sustainability assessment framework can be used by both academics and practitioners for assessment of high-rise timber buildings.

Abstract We consider a family of $$ \mathcal{N} $$ N = 2 superconformal field theories in four dimensions, defined as ℤq orbifolds of $$ \mathcal{N} $$ N = 4 Super Yang-Mills theory. We compute the chiral/anti-chiral correlation functions at a perturbative level, using both the matrix model approach arising from supersymmetric localisation on the four-sphere and explicit field theory calculations on the flat space using the $$ \mathcal{N} $$ N = 1 superspace formalism. We implement a highly efficient algorithm to produce a large number of results for finite values of N , exploiting the symmetries of the quiver to reduce the complexity of the mixing between the operators. Finally the interplay with the field theory calculations allows to isolate special observables which deviate from $$ \mathcal{N} $$ N = 4 only at high orders in perturbation theory.

The environment provides the economy with resources (e.g., water, air, fuels, food, metals, minerals, and drugs), services (e.g., the cycles of H2O, C, CO2, N, O2; photosynthesis, and soil formation), and mechanisms to absorb waste. Economic growth is based on these three services, and since the global ecosystem does not grow, economic growth cannot continue indefinitely. The concepts of sustainability and sustainable development have received much attention among policy-makers and scientists as a result of the existence of limits to growth and the dramatic environmental changes of the last decades. Sustainability integrates environmental, economic, and societal aspects. It also covers different geographical scales: ecosystems, regions, countries, and the globe. In this chapter, the authors review various models of sustainability assessment. Since there is no universally accepted definition and measuring technique of sustainability, these different models lead to different assessments. They also present a discussion of the sustainability indicators, aggregation tools, and data imputation techniques used in each approach.

Abstract This chapter presents the findings of qualitative questionnaire research carried out in the Tremiti Islands Marine Reserve, which is part of Gargano National Park, Italy. The study have identified different segments of tourists visiting Tremiti by means of the model proposed by Arnegger et al. (2010), using the matrix suggested in the model. The model was used to understand and categorize visitor characteristics, their expectations and levels of satisfaction, and the strengths and weaknesses of local offerings. This is crucial information for the managers of the marine reserve who require thorough knowledge of the different types of visitors to adapt to the needs, expectations and preferences of the visitors in order to offer high-quality services and memorable experiences.

With the arising of environmental problems from the construction sector, the sustainability issues gained more space, making sustainability assessment tools emerge. These tools are based on the global definition of sustainability that meets Environmental, Economic, and Social criteria, and each system has a different and peculiar methodology. This paper aims to analyse the structure adopted by these European sustainability assessment systems: BREAM UK, DGBN (Germany), ITACA (Italy), LiderA (Portugal), and HQE (France), showing an overview of each system assisted by the SWOT Matrix, enabling the reader to better understand their differences. There are no superior or inferior systems, but each system notably performs much better in a subject or goal.

The question of knowledge permeates our society since the days of the Greek Philosophers. According to some “knowledge” is what allows men to solve their everyday problems. This article goal is to conceptualize knowledge regarding the individual learning of the human being: in the eyes of the cognitivists; following the optics of connectionism; and in accordance with the autopoietic approach. By way of an epiphany we discuss the knowledge in an integrated vision that understands each of the three concepts as aspects of the same reality. Therefore, the methodology used was a descriptive exploratory research, a qualitative approach, which allowed, in the end, infers some considerations on the question of knowledge in a broader and more comprehensive approach.
