The scientific achievements of leading scientists on the selected theme are analyzed and leading ideas, concepts, and main definitions of the research are identified in the article. The creation of proper psycho-didactic conditions in institutions of higher education, which serve as a basis for the formation of professionally significant competences, the development of personal creative potential and active public position in future practical psychologists, is updated. It is argumented that the educational system built on the conceptual foundations of professional training makes it possible to effectively content the educational disciplines, and therefore effective fundamental knowledge, professional-oriented skills, advanced skills, professional norms and values, which have the highest degree of generalization of social phenomena and processes. It is proved that the concept of the study of practical psychology combines professional methodological, philosophical and general scientific principles and scientific-methodological approaches, which are directed at the revealing future professional activity. The outlined conceptual foundations of professional training allow us to modify the educational process in higher education according to the individual needs of future practical psychologists. The methodological analysis of educational phenomenon of practical psychology in institutions of higher education on four basic levels is offered: philosophical-theoretical (evolutionary-theoretical formation of the specialist and his or her effective functioning), methodological (formation of the system of world-view and semantic individual formations for realization of individual’s educational skills and abilities), specific-scientific (acquisition of fundamental knowledge about professional activities) and technological (effective use of methods and techniques of research for acquisition of true empirical knowledge). The conclusion about the importance of outlining of conceptual foundations in the system of professional training of future practical psychologists is made.

The emergence of the Internet has had a significant impact on higher education where we have seen elearning evolve from a marginal form of education to a commonly accepted and increasingly popular alternative to traditional face-to-face education. While e-learning has many advantages, there have been problems identified, such as lack of contact leading to feelings of isolation; the need for a motivated, self-disciplined, and mature learner; the monotonous nature of some e-learning materials; and increased drop out rates. If e-learning has developed a reputation for being ‘boring and mindless,’ games have developed the reputation for being engaging and challenging. In recent years, a new form of learning has been developing, namely games-based e-learning, which builds on the successes of e-learning while providing a more stimulating and relevant learning environment for younger people who have been brought up in an environment of powerful home PCs, graphic-rich multiplayer Internet gaming, and mobile phones with ever-increasing functionality. This article will explore the concept of games-based e-learning, discuss some of its pedagogic underpinnings, and examine barriers that may limit the uptake and development of this relatively new approach to learning.

In The Public Affairs Faculty Manual: A Guide to the Effective Management of Public Affairs Programs, editors Bruce McDonald III and William Hatcher, provide a broad overview on designing, leading, and managing a public affairs (PA) program. The edited volume is explicitly written for PA faculty in new leadership roles in higher education, though it is a useful reference for administrators of all levels and even useful for regular faculty. Despite excellent journals focused on PA education, such as Journal of Public Affairs Education, and Teaching Public Administration, there is a clear need for a focused cultivation of fundamental knowledge, research, and experience-informed advice for academic administrators in PA programs.

Abstract The search for purity of language during the Palaeologan age has often been regarded as a revival of the Atticist movement of the second century AD. Students who had access to the higher education aimed at mastering this new form of Attic Greek: a large set of ancient authors deemed to be models of language and style served as repositories of lexical materials. Within this framework the need of school handbooks, dictionaries is quite understandable. In the first section of the paper I offer an overview of the multifarious typologies of scholarly texts largely used in the first Palaeologan age. Then, I focus more specifically on some miscellaneous excerpts merged into anthological manuscripts, by taking into account a largely overlooked series of grammatical and lexical annotations on Lucian. Differently from what is often stated in the catalogues, I show how the order of the items follows closely Lucian’s texts. These annotations could be the transcription of teachers’ notes and/or lecture notes taken during collective/private readings of texts.

A Wikibook is a transformative and disruptive technology that is finding increasing use in schools and higher education institutions. This new form of technology is inexpensive, accessible, and fairly responsive to the user. When engaged in a Wikibook project in an academic setting, learners are granted power to control the content and process of learning. Wikibooks are part of the Web 2.0 which can provide a powerful force in changing, and improving education. However, the authors’ multiple attempts to build Wikibooks in their own classes reveal that creating a successful Wikibook is not particularly easy. It is even more difficult when it entails more than one institution or class. Cross-institutional and internationally designed Wikibooks present many instructional challenges and dilemmas to learners and instructors. In addition, there are collaboration issues, technology issues, knowledge construction and sense of community issues, and general issues related to the Wikibook technology and the Wikibook design process itself. In response, in this chapter, the authors provide dozens of Wikibook collaboration ideas and suggestions based on our experiences.

Graduation practice is an important teaching step for the cultivation of engineering majors’ practical competences and their abilities to analyze and handle problems through comprehensive application of the fundamental knowledge acquired. In the present environment of marketing economy and with current higher education shifted from elite to mass, a reformation on the traditional modes of graduation practice has become an urgent must. This paper analyzes in detail the various problems in the graduation practice of engineering majors, and proposes new practice modes from the perspectives of practice bases, means, organization, contents and evaluation, which has achieved ideal effects and won recognition and praise from the organizations involved. It is worth being applied and extended among university graduates of engineering majors in their graduation practice.

Abstract The idea of elaborating this article came to me after reading over and over again the content of Art.2 paragraph (1) of the National Education Law no.1 / 2011, with subsequent amendments and completions, a very important normative act for the present, but especially for the future of Romania, according to which „The law aims to promote an education oriented on values, creativity, cognitive abilities, volitional abilities and action capacities, fundamental knowledge and competencies/skills and abilities of direct utility, in the professional life and in the society. Anyone who reads the content of Art.2 paragraph (1) is entitled to believe that the most efficient secondary and higher education in the world is taking place in Romania. Unfortunately, when reading and analyzing the content of Art.3, it can be seen quite easily that the principles governing secondary and higher education, as well as lifelong learning in Romania have a more declarative character, i.e. there is one thing written on paper and something else is happening in reality. I would like to continue to talk about this, with arguments, supported by my knowledge and experience in the field of education, starting with September 1979, when I first entered a classroom consisting of military students, from the highly flattering position of instructor and educator and until now, after a lifetime of working in classrooms, laboratories, amphitheatres and auditoriums of several military and civilian higher education institutions, in the honorary position of university professor doctor habilitat and chairman of the University Ethics Commission.

It is stated that the level of project based thinking and group-learning activity, including the use of synergistic approaches is still poorly developed in higher education system. However, the active involvement of students, teachers and specialists in the implementation of large projects should allow mastering new knowledge and skills, including the ability of teamwork, system thinking and leadership. At present, when evaluating the competencies of a specialist, it is necessary to pay attention to his ability to project thinking.
