The objective is to analyze techniques to form mulberry seedlings with different cutting sizes and forms of fertilization with N-P-K aiming a low production cost and an easy application in field. The experiment was carried out in a screened nursery, with a shading of 34%. The treatments were distributed in randomized blocks (RB) and compared in a 2x4x3 factorial design with five replications and 12 plants per plot. The factorial design consisted of two cutting lengths (10 and 20 cm) distributed in plastic tubes of 70 and 120 mL, four mulberry cultivars (IZ40, IZ10/1, Korin, and IZ3/2), and two types of fertilization: addition of 84 g of Osmocote® for each kilo of substrate, fertigation with aqueous solution containing 84 g of 14-14-14 N-P-K for each kilo of substrate, plus a control treatment (without fertilization). The commercial substrate Basaplant citrus® was used. 90 and 140 days after planting, assessments of percentage of rooting were carried out. At 140 days, shoot length (cm), number of shoots, number of leaves, root length (cm), and shoot and root green and dry matter were evaluated. The data obtained were evaluated using the Sanest software and Tukey test (P<0.05). Cuttings of 20 cm in length in tubes of 120 mL are recommended for the best formation of mulberry seedlings with the application of N-P-K fertilizer through fertigation. The cultivars showed different rooting potentials and shoot development. The best results are for Korin and IZ 10/1.

An experiment was conducted at the Horticulture Farm of the Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh to evaluate the effects of sulphur and GA3 on the growth and yield performance of onion cv. BARI Peaj-1. The experiment included four levels of sulphur viz., 0 (control), 15, 30 and 45 kg/ha and four concentrations of GA3 viz., 0 (control), 50, 75, 100 ppm. The experimental findings revealed that sulphur and GA3 had significant influence on plant height, number of leaves per plant, bulb diameter and length, individual bulb weight, splitted and rotten bulb, bulb dry matter content and bulb yield. The highest bulb yield (13.85 t/ha) was recorded from 30 kg S/ha, while the lowest bulb yield (11.20 t/ha) was obtained from control. Most of the parameters showed increasing trend with the higher concentration of GA3. Application of GA3 @ 100 ppm gave the maximum bulb yield (15.23 t/ha), while the minimum value (10.10 t/ha) was observed from control. Almost all the parameters were significantly influenced by combined treatments of sulphur and GA3 except bulb length of onion. The maximum bulb dry matter content (13.50%) and bulb yield (17.10 t/ha) were produced from the application of sulphur @ 30 kg/ha with 100ppm GA3, while the minimum bulb dry matter content (9.23%) and bulb yield (9.33 t/ha) were recorded from control treatment of sulphur with GA3.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.3329/pa.v21i1-2.16749 Progress. This study was carried out in the nursery of Department of Horticulture and Landscape Design, College of Agriculture, University of Basrah during 2018 growing season. Completely randomized blocks design (C.R.B.D.)  was used to investigate the effect of different concentrations of super swing (0, 0.5 and 1) g.l-1 and whey (0, 50 and 75) % and their interactions to enhance the growth parameters and chemical characteristics of Sour orange transplants. The results showed a significant increase in most of the measured growth parameters of transplants treated with high concentration of foliar spraying to both fertilizers. Application of super swing at 1 g.l-1 with whey at 75% together significantly increased the height of plant, the number of leaves, leaf area, the diameter of stem, number of flowers, the leaves content of both nitrogen and potassium, percentage of dry matter, and content of chlorophyll. Whereas, control treatment was significantly increased the water content compared to other treatments. Addition of growth-enhancing compounds such as super swing and whey extract to the plant can improve the metabolic performance and enhances the plant's ability to absorb nutrients from the soil.

O arroz, alimento apreciado na mesa do consumidor em todo mundo, possui amplo espectro produtivo no Brasil, devido às condições ideais de clima e solo encontrados no país, as quais possibilitam produção tanto em terras altas como em terras baixas, garantindo o abastecimento do mercado interno e externo. O presente estudo objetivou avaliar os efeitos decorrentes da aplicação de fertilizantes no desempenho inicial da cultura do arroz irrigado e na seletividade a herbicidas. O experimento foi conduzido em casa de vegetação, nas dependências da Faculdade de agronomia Eliseu Maciel – IES, Cidade (UF). O delineamento utilizado foi inteiramente casualizado, disposto em esquema fatorial (3 x 3) + 1, com 4 repetições, onde o fator A corresponde aos fertilizantes (Biozyme TF®, GreenFactor® e Pilatus®) e o fator B aos herbicidas (cialofope-butil, bispiribaque-sódico e profoxidim) registrados para a cultura do arroz irrigado, além do tratamento controle, sem aplicação de fertilizante e sem aplicação de herbicidas. Avaliou-se o comprimento de parte aérea aos 7 e 21 dias após (DAH), massa da matéria seca aos 21 DAH, fitotoxicidade aos 7, 14 e 21 DAH e teor de clorofila através de leituras  com clorofilômetro. A partir dos resultados obtidos, observou-se que a aplicação dos fertilizantes não influenciou no desenvolvimento inicial da cultura do arroz e na seletividade dos herbicidas aplicados. Em relação à avaliação de fitotoxicidade, o profoxidim causou os maiores índices.Performance irrigated rice initial resulting from fertilizer application in herbicide selectivityAbstract: Rice, food enjoyed at the dinner table in the world, has extensive production spectrum in Brazil, due to the ideal conditions of climate and soil found in the country, which enable production of both upland and lowland, ensuring market supply internal and external. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of the application of fertilizers in the initial performance of irrigated rice and selectivity to herbicides. The experiment was conducted in a greenhouse on the premises of Agronomy Faculty Eliseu Maciel - IES, City (UF). The design was completely randomized, arranged in a factorial scheme (3 x 3) + 1, with 4 replications, where factor A corresponds to fertilizers (Biozyme TF®, GreenFactor® and Pilatus®) and factor B herbicide (cyhalofop butyl, bispyribac-sodium and profoxidim) registered for irrigated rice in addition to the control treatment without fertilizer application and without application of herbicides. We evaluated the shoot length at 7 and 21 days  (DAH), dry matter to 21 DAH, phytotoxicity at 7, 14 and 21 DAH and chlorophyll content through readings with chlorophyll. From the results, it was observed that the application of fertilizers did not affect the early development of rice cultivation and selectivity of herbicides applied. Regarding the assessment of phytotoxicity, the profoxidim caused the highest rates.

Plant regulators, as well as bioactive fractions of the organic matter, can accelerate the development and increase the efficiency of adventitious rooting in ornamental plants. We evaluated rooting in the Brazilian red-cloak (Megaskepasma erythrochlamys) and sanchezia (Sanchezia nobilis) cuttings in response to application of indole-butyric acid (IBA) and humic acids (HA). Stem cuttings of both species treated with solutions of 0, 250, 500, 1000, 2000 mg/L of IBA and 0, 10, 20, 30, 40 mmol/L of C of HA were placed in 2.0 L plastic pots containing carbonized rice husk, kept in greenhouse. Survival of cuttings, number of leaves and shoot and root fresh and dry matter were evaluated 45 days after. Data were used to run an analysis of variance. We observed the average contrasts, calculated the regression equations and estimated the concentrations that provided the best efficiency in terms of root dry matter. For IBA, 185.4 and 66.8 mg/L were the concentrations that promoted the highest root dry matter accumulation in the Brazilian red-cloak and sanchezia, respectively, with increments of 140 and 22.5% in relation to the control. HA, at 33.6 mmol L-1 of C, increased shoot fresh and dry matter in the Brazilian red-cloak, but reduced root formation compared to the control. In sanchezia, HA at 19.5 mmol L-1 of C promoted increases of 35.9% in root dry matter in relation to the control. We concluded that IBA, in the abovementioned concentrations, increased adventitious rooting in cuttings of both the Brazilian red-cloak and sanchezia, while optimal doses of HA solutions are very likely to improve adventitious rooting in sanchezia, but not in the Brazilian red-cloak.

Three strawberry cultivars were used in this study. Runners from the three cultivars were grown on Murashige and Skoog medium supplemented with benzylaminpurine or kinetin at four concentrations (2, 1, 0.5, and 0.25 mg·L-1 in addition to the control treatment). The use of cytokinin, regardless of type and concentration, promoted the explant proliferation, shoot height, number of leaves, and plantlet fresh weight. Callus formation was enhanced by BA application, especially with `Pajaro'. However, `Chandler' did not form at all using cytokinin. Produced plantlets had lower nutrient constituents (N, P, K, Ca, and Na) when grown on media containing cytokinin compared to the control. Based on these results, cytokinin is recommended to get more shoots per explant. Furthermore, using the lowest concentration (0.25 mg·L-1) will produce height proliferation, greater shoot length, and more leaves.

The objective of this work was to verify the influence of light environments combined with rhizobia inoculation on cowpea growth and productivity. A completely random design was used in a 4x4 factorial scheme, with four light environments, four nitrogen sources and eight replicates in split plot parcels. Light environments were set by means of photo-conversion and thermo-conversion nettings (Aluminet®, red net and black net) and control treatment without shading (full sun). Nitrogen sources were constituted by the strains INPA 03-11B - SEMIA 6462 (Bradyrhizobium elkanni) and UFLA 03-84 - SEMIA 6461 (Bradyrhizobium viridifuturi), and two control treatments: with 70 kg ha-1 of mineral nitrogen and without N. Plant height, indices of chlorophyll a, b and total chlorophill, the number of leaves, number of nodules, dry matter of nodules, dry matter of the aerial portion, dry matter of roots and total dry matter, relative efficiency, gathering of nitrogen in the aerial portion, number, length and matter of pods per plant and dry matter of 100 grains, were evaluated. . There was interaction between light conditions and nitrogen sources for the number of nodules. Individual effect was observed in all other variables. Strain INPA 03-11B was able to promote higher nodulation in cowpea plants in light environments under full sun and Aluminet and the strain UFLA 03-84 only under full sun conditions. However, the efficiency of diazotrophic bacteria to promote vegetative growth, nitrogen gathering and production was not influenced by different light environments. Thus, full sun cultivation is recommended, independently of the nitrogen source used.

The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of nitrogen and potassium silicate on the production and commercial aspects of curly lettuce, Vera cultivar. The experimental design was completely randomized (CRD), with ten treatments and three replications. The treatments, arranged in a factorial design according to the Plan Puebla III matrix (Turrent & Laird, 1975), consisted of the combination of five doses of nitrogen (9; 54; 90; 126, and 171 kg ha-1) and five doses of potassium silicate (1.15; 6.90; 11.50; 16.10, and 21.85 kg ha-1). A control treatment without application of nitrogen and potassium silicate was also inserted. The crop was grown in a greenhouse, and the doses were applied as sidedressing using a drip micro-irrigation system. Total fresh matter, commercial fresh matter, non-commercial fresh matter, number of leaves and commercial trade index were evaluated. The commercial fresh matter and the number of commercial leaves per plant were affected only by nitrogen fertigation and increased linearly with an increase in the dose of nitrogen, with the best responses observed at the highest dose of this element (171 kg ha-1). Potassium silicate only had an effect on non-commercial fresh matter, with no influence on the other characteristics.

Guarana (Paullinia cupana var. Sorbilis (Mart.) Ducke) is a species native from Amazon which has high caffeine concentration. The interactions between guarana and microorganisms in Amazonian soils need to be investigated, especially in relation to the seedling production process, due to its beneficial relationships such as biosynthesis and the supply of stimulating substances, which may result in shortening of the nursery garden or increased productivity. Thus, this research had the objective of evaluating the potential of growth caused by rhizobacteria (Burkholderia ambifaria and Bacillus sp.) in rooting of guarana seedlings. The root length, volume, dry matter of the aerial part, height, number of leaves, leaf area and dry matter of shoot were evaluated at 180 days after planting emergence. Were also determined the carbohydrate and proline content of the aerial part. The rhizobacteria did not influence the growth of the seedlings, however, the carbohydrate contents were higher when the inoculation of the rhizobacteria was carried out with the Burkholderia ambifaria bacteria in the cultivar BRS-Amazonas, with the best results. The proline levels were higher in the control treatment of the two cultivars.

Timoho (Kleinhovia hospita L) is a rare plant that has high economic and cultural value for the Javanese people, especially in Yogyakarta. Timoho wood has a beautiful pattern called pelet and is used as a raw material for keris sheath. In Yogyakarta, timoho trees are difficult to find, currently, so that plant propagation in a generative way also has difficulty due to scarcity of seeds. Therefore, it is necessary to conduct timoho propagation research through vegetative methods. The purpose of this study was to determine the origin of stem cuttings to the success of timoho stem cuttings. Stem cuttings come from three timoho trees in the Arboretum of the Center for Forest Biotechnology and Tree Improvement Yogyakarta. The research method used a factorial experimental design using 3 mother trees and 3 stem parts (base, middle and end). The parameters observed were percentage of shoots, number of shoots, length of shoots, and number of leaves. The results showed the percentage of live cuttings varied from 10.9-60.0%, number of shoots 1-7 pieces, number of leaves 3-26 strands and length of shoots 2.00-17.7 cm. The mother tree has a significant effect on the percentage of sprouts and shoot length, while the cuttings material has a significant effect on the length of shoots at the cuttings measurements of the age of 2 months since planted in polybags.
