Abstract

In this article, we discuss essential elements of the process of urbanization present in the Amazon region and its implications in the urban dynamics of Imperatriz. The socioeconomic, demographic and cultural changes present in this macro-region since 1950, were motivated by the processes of regional modernization. In this scenario, the diffusion of occupation and settlement strategies was oriented through the colonization, mining-metallurgical, agricultural and livestock projects, and the socio-economic dynamism assumed by some cities. We emphasize in this context, the participation of the city of Imperatriz that is located in the eastern portion of that region. Between the decades of 1960-1980, Imperatriz registered a remarkable demographic and economic growth. From the 1980s, there were significant changes in its functional structure, being driven by tertiary activities, in particular, the consolidation of commercial activity and the development of higher education and health services. From the methodological point of view, the reflections carried out here were guided by an analysis of socioeconomic data organized by official bodies. This is the case of the IBGE, IMESC and João Pinheiro Foundation, as well as a bibliographical review that highlights the meanings of medium-sized cities in the context of the Amazon region.
Keywords: Urban-regional restructuring. After the Second World War, Japan knew significantly accelerated economic development. This process was influenced by a series of factors such as the economic system’s opening, the introduction of innovation and technology, the investment in equipment, or the democratization of economy and politics. The doctrine of Nipponism is based on certain fundamental pillars. We mention three of the main theories, whose essential elements are described within this paper: technocracy theory, central management theory, and information society theory. These theories are approached both from a historical point of view and through the leading promoters’ prism and the defining elements that compose the particular theory.

Purpose This paper aims to propose the development of formal (scientific content) and informal (content for science communication) educational activities in an inclusive and safe way, involving two essential elements, virtual reality (VR) and the digital library; as well as the implications for its enforcement such as educational strategies in the university setting and for the encouragement of scientific culture in society. Design/methodology/approach For the integration of content, a simplified conceptual model was designed first, in which universities and research centers are seen as complex systems where different subsystems, from which processes and information resources are derived, converge. To cover the model’s elements, a descriptive documentary review was developed, looking to synthesize each element’s contexts and implications. Findings The need to establish transdisciplinary relationships between the VR and the digital library is determined with the goal to integrate educational activities using technology, with the purpose of studying contents from the scientific point of view, as well as with the possibility of transforming them into contexts of general access for society, with the objective of social appropriation of knowledge, citizen science and social innovation. In the conclusion section, some implications in the implementation of this type of initiatives are presented. Originality/value The aspects that set this paper apart are: treating VR as emerging documents tending to measure their direct impact, not as isolated elements of a collection; identifying the digital library’s social influence actions through VR; and generating processes to encourage the creation of contents with a differentiated focus according to the population served.

Modern Spanish is a multi-ethnic, complex structured, hierarchical formation ofnan abstract nature that serves its communicative, cognitive, pragmatic and other needs, diverse peoples, ethnos and social groups in contemporary Spanish -speaking countries located on different continents. This language has gone the difficult way of asserting its identity and has felt the ambiguous effect of collision with other linguistic cultures in the process of socio-political, economic and cultural changes. We consider that the language is the main consolidating force of society, it participates in the complex relationships in the triad society-language-culture, and simultaneously plays a key role in social transformations and preserving national and cultural identity. A culture that relies on the language system and cannot exist without it, is a decisive factor in changes in social practices. Therefore, we regard the language as a kind of a framework for culture, and in its complex, both the language and the culture, form an indivisible phenomenon such as the linguoculture, which is inherent in a particular people, ethnicity, society. Within the limits of the theory of linguistic collision, the causes of the original design of the Iberian-Roman linguistic culture can be considered as the intrinsic processes, which were set in the crisis (in the Vth century) and the fall (in the VIth cenury) of the Roman Empire, in the collapse of the Roman linguistic culture. The effect of the contact with German and Arabic linguistic cultures were manifested in complete abandoning of German linguoculture or partial rejection of Arabic linguoculture and in the Spaniards’ awareness of their own national linguistic and cultural identity.

Context: Nurses worked as primary educators in perioperative teaching. The delivery of preoperative teaching may be affected by the nurses' perception of what information should be involved. Their perceptions possibly have a direct effect on their performance regarding the preoperative information. Understanding the nurses' point of view may help the nurses to increase their knowledge of the preoperative information details, to provide better nursing care, and to improve patient outcomes. Aim: To identify the relevant evidence on the nurses' perceptions regarding the essential elements of preoperative information in addition to the methods of information delivery and the factors that reduce or prevent information delivery. Methods: A scoping review method was used to allow for the mapping of the relevant evidence and the synthesis of the findings. CINAHL, MEDLINE, and PubMed databases were searched from inception until December 2019. Seven studies met the inclusion criteria with a sample size of 812 nurses involved in the review. Results: The results indicated that Anaesthesia information (69.55%) and details about operation (62.1%) were most crucial preoperative information as perceived by nurses. Oral explanations were most essential actual and preferred method of information delivery. The top barriers to provide sufficient information were time availability (64.25%), the types of questions (64.17%), and language barriers (61.75%). The review also found that the Preoperative Teaching Questionnaire (PTQ) was the most assessment instrument used to assess nurses’ perception regarding the preoperative information. Conclusion: This scoping review has assessed the nurses' perceptions regarding the essential elements of preoperative information. Understand nurses' view regarding the preoperative information are important to determine the essential elements of preoperative teaching, ensure the quality of care, and better patient's outcome. However, further studies are needed to assess the nurses' perception regarding essential preoperative information and to examine the different strategies and teaching modalities used to create an effective preoperative teaching program.

Modern problems of the socio-humanistic sciences, including the interaction of structure/ agency, the ways and forms of both personal development and socio-cultural changes, the transformation of the value status of a social ego, the reinterpretation of its contribution to the creativeness of society require substantial amendments to the definitions and methodology of socio-humanistic research. In order to achieve this goal, the article considers one of the basic concepts of European philosophy, transcending from the point of view which differs from generally accepted. The singularity of the author’s approach is the social notion of this concept and the identification of its integrating capabilities regarding to semantically close concepts and terms of social theory of the 20th – 21st centuries. To reach these objectives, a comparative analysis of the concepts of social transcending and the concepts of action creativity (H. Joas), fabulation (A.-T. Tymieniecka), signification (P. Berger, T. Luckmann), noting (J. Alexander), metalanguage (R. Barthes), agency (E. Giddens et al.) was treated. Social transcending is as intentional and creative as human action. However, the first concept, besides, is intersubjective, communicative and teleological. As a fabulation, social transcending raises a person by means of functioning of many sociocultural practices, above the world of mundanity. However, in fabulation the mechanism of such exaltation is a artistic and aesthetic experience, while in social transcending all the interests peculiar to human beings are used: cognitive, ethical, religious, etc. Signification involves the individually-personal and sign-symbolic aspects of social transcending, its everyday and non-everyday levels, being one of the significant ways of social transcending. Noting and metalanguage also embody the options of signifying of social transcending; by means of agensy its dynamism is revealed. The author comes to the conclusion that the generic conceptual-substantive basis of the analyzed concepts is social transcending, which «incorporates» the most important processes of social creativity.

The source of data in this reseaech is the novel Atap by Fira Basuki. The data in this research were obtained from words, sentences, or expressions contained in the novel which refer to aspects of socio-cultural change through the family and aspects of family violence from a feminist point of view. The results showed that in socio-cultural changes through the family, it was found that there was still a gender bias towards justice that was obtained by women. Gender bias is also found in the female characters Kunti, Jane and Mak Umah as a result of violence in the family from a feminist point of view. Based on the problems that arise in socio-cultural relations through the family, it should be addressed wisely and directed in the form of protection. For example, legal protection is made and the public understands the existing forms of legal protection.

While social media have become a daily routine in modern society, brand communication and engagement with customers have become essential elements of marketing strategy and success in the tourism and hotel industry. This revolution of social media, in tourism and hospitality marketing, contributed to the rise of a novel sentiment analysis from a machine learning and natural language processing point of view. The purpose of the study is: to provide a general descriptive overview of comments posted by Facebook page followers; to identify specific textual attributes of hotel brand posts on social media and to apply the sentiment analysis to Facebook comments from four- and five-star hotel brands in Croatia to identify and compare customers’ feelings and attitudes towards the staff, services and products that hotel brands promote by posting messages on Facebook pages. To analyse hotel brand sentiments, the authors collected a total of 4,248 comments and 2,373 postings in English, German and Italian. The results showed that the comments on four- and five-star hotel brands expressed predominantly positive sentiments. Despite the positively oriented sentiments in the comments, Facebook page followers are predominantly passive users and do not tend to comment actively. The results can be used by marketers in the tourism and hospitality industry to plan their future social media communication strategies.

We describe a pre-service teacher workshop about sustainable health decisions in school. This one-week workshop had two goals: to improve the ability of students to cope with health and illness as teachers in daily school life, and to improve scientific literacy in health contexts. In this way, the workshop aimed at creating a situation of mutual benefit between science education and health education, as it is suggested in the new science pedagogy called Science|Environment|Health. To reach this aim, the workshop was structured by the evidence-preference approach and the three-talk model, both originally developed for shared-decision making in medicine. In the evidence-preference approach, the experts (the physician, here the teacher) provide the best evidence available, while the laypersons (the patient, here the teacher students) bring in their preferences and, together with the experts, find their personal standpoint. This process is structured by the three-talk model, which is conceived as a characteristic succession of choice talk, option talk, and decision talk. We describe how the pre-service teacher workshop embraced this new approach, compare it to a scientific literacy point of view, and suggest how it could be applied in many other educational contexts, particularly in many issues of education for sustainability.
