Goldberg’s International Personality Item Pool (IPIP) big-five personality factor markers currently lack validating evidence. The structure of the 50-item IPIP was examined in two different adult samples (total N=811), in each case justifying a 5-factor solution, with only minor discrepancies. Age differences were comparable to previous findings using other inventories. One sample (N=193) also completed additionally another personality measure (the TIPI Short Form). Conscientiousness, extraversion and emotional stability/ neuroticism scales of the IPIP were highly correlated with those of the TIPI (r=0.62 to 0.65, P=0.01). Agreeableness and Intellect/Openness scales correlated less strongly (r=0.54 and 0.58 respectively, P=0.01). The IPIP scales have good internal consistency (a=0.88) and relate strongly to major dimensions of personality assessed by the two questionnaires.

The present study tries to examine whether (i) Big-Five personality traits and (ii) general personality factor (Big-One), that is, the higher order factor for Big-Five are related to the factors measuring perceived investment performance. Cross-sectional data were collected from individual investors ( N = 396), through stratified and quota sampling approach. Data were analysed using correlation, regression, hierarchical regression and structural equation modelling (SEM) to evaluate the strength of relationship between the constructs. The results of the study indicated that Big-Five dimensions of personality, Extraversion, Agreeableness and Conscientiousness, are associated with perceived investment performance. Moreover, the correlation and regression analysis depicted that Big-One is also a major antecedent for perceived satisfaction and tends to contribute largely (3.8 per cent) to the variance in perceived investment performance.

The present study sought to extend recent work by examining individual and relationship variables that predict the love-is-blind bias, that is, a tendency to perceive one’s romantic partner as more attractive than oneself. A sample of 113 men and 143 women completed a battery of tests that included various demographic, individual difference, and relationship-related measures. Results provided support for a love-is-blind bias, in that both women and men rated their romantic partners as significantly more attractive than themselves on overall attractiveness and the attractiveness of various body components. Results also showed that the Big Five personality factor of Extraversion, self-esteem, relationship satisfaction, and romantic love were positively correlated with the love-is-blind bias, whereas relationship length and playful love were negatively correlated with the bias. The results of this study are considered in relation to previous work on positive partner illusions.

Studies reveal consistent relationships between personality and preferred musical genre. This article explores these relationships using a novel methodology: genre dispersion among people’s mobile-phone music collections. By analyzing the download behavior of genre-based user subgroups, we investigated the following questions: (1) do genre-based subgroups exhibit different levels of genre exclusivity; and (2) does genre exclusivity relate to Big Five personality factors? We hypothesized that genre-based subgroups would vary in genre exclusivity, and that their degree of exclusivity would be associated with the personality factor of openness (if people have open personalities, they should be open to different musical styles). Consistent with our hypothesis, results showed that greater genre inclusivity, that is, many genres in people’s music collections, positively correlated with openness and (unexpectedly) agreeableness, suggesting that individuals with high openness and agreeableness have wider musical tastes than those with low openness and agreeableness. By demonstrating an association between personality and patterns of music consumption, this research serves to corroborate previous work linking genre preference and personality. The practical implications of this research may be useful in the implementation of music-recommendation systems.

This study aims to find out relationship between dimension big five personality with emotional labor. The research sample was all nurses working at Sari Mutiara Medan General Hospital, which amounted to 115 people, with a total sampling method. The data were collected via emotional labor scale with 48 item and big five personality scale (BFI) with 44 item. The results showed that there was a significant relationship between big five personality with emotional labor. Openness to experience were positively related to emotional labor with correlate coefficient 0.268 and sig. 0.003 (p<0.05), the other dimensions have negative relationships, including extraversion dimensions with correlate coefficient 0.052 and sig. 0.562 (p<0.005), agreeableness with correlate coefficient -0.129 and sig. 0.150 (p<0.05), conscientiousness with correlate coefficient 0.082 and sig. 0.363 (p<0.05) and neuroticism with correlate coefficient -0.104 and sig. 0.245 (p<0.05) were negatively related to emotional labor. The results also showed that the contribution of a given big five personality on emotional labor was 9 percent, while the remaining 91 percent was affected by other factors not examined. From the results, it can be concluded that the hypothesis stating that there is a significance relationship between big five personality and emotional labor.

In this chapter, we offer a developmental perspective on temperament and personality traits from early childhood through adulthood. First, we address the relationship between temperament and personality and the methods used to ascertain the structure of traits in these two research traditions. We argue that the temperament and personality traditions provide different ways of describing the same basic traits. Second, we describe the current status of the most prominent temperament models and the Big Five personality trait model. Third, we articulate a structural model that integrates contemporary findings on temperament and personality traits from early childhood through adulthood. Fourth, we discuss current research on the psychological and biological processes that underlie individual differences in the Big Five traits in childhood and adulthood. This is an exciting time in the study of personality development, in part because of the marked progress in uncovering the basic structure of traits across the lifespan.

The scores of 700 Afrikaans-speaking university students on the Comrey Personality Scales and the 16 Personality Factor Questionnaire were subjected to an inter-battery factor analysis. This technique uses only the correlations between two sets of variables and reveals only the factors that they have in common. Three of the Big Five personality factors were revealed, namely Extroversion, Neuroticism and Conscientiousness. However, the Conscientiousness factor contained a relatively strong unsocialised component and in this regard it is similar to Eysencks Psychoticism factor. The results support the construct validity of the Comrey Personality Scales and the 16 Personality Factor Questionnaire. Implications for personality questionnaire design and validation are discussed.

We evaluated Big Five personality factor differences between research volunteers and nonvolunteers. In the first study, 158 military officers were asked to participate in a mail survey. The personality scores of the officers were available from an archival data set. In our second study, adult siblings from large families were invited to participate in extensive clinical epidemiological evaluations. The personality scores of volunteers (N = 55) and nonvolunteers from the same families (N = 29) were estimated from sibling ratings made by those who participated in the study. In both studies, respondents, compared to nonrespondents, were found to be significantly lower in Neuroticism and higher in Conscientiousness. The second study further indicated respondents as being higher in Extraversion and Agreeableness. Copyright © 2007 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

The purpose of this study is to provide information and find out the relationship between conscientiousness with environmental insight behavior. The method used is a survey method with correlational techniques. This research is concerned with collecting data to determine whether there is a relationship between variables and how much strength the relationship has (correlation coefficient). The sampling technique in this study uses simple random sampling. the results showed that environmentally friendly behavior will increase if the big five personality factors (conscientiousness, agreeableness, neuroticism, openness and extraversion) are also increased. Factors to improve the behavior of environmental insights related to green architecture are the Policy implication as an effort to increase openness, Theoritical implication and Research implication.
