Rotary tillers implements are now projected as important tillage machinery for better seedbed preparation; however the ordinary rotavator being in line with the tractor center line at the rear cannot be used in orchards due to the hindrance posed due to narrow space between the plants. Therefore, the concept of a rotary offset tiller in other words orchard tillers was proposed, which could perform finer intercultural operation between the plants. Since there are some models of Indians and Foreign made rotary offset tiller available and their work quality parameter significantly plays a crucial role in selection of efficient, effective and appropriate machine for orchards. Therefore, present study is carried out with a purpose of selection of suitable and efficient orchard tillers on the basis of intercultural work quality parameters. The various intercultural machines like Rineri offset tiller, Saktiman offset tiller and Side shift tiller selected for this study and finally, orchard tillers were analysed for intercultural work quality for their suitability in Pant Tarai region of Uttarakhand. The work quality assessments concluded that side shift tiller was supposed to be best among all other type of intercultural machines because of less fuel consumption 3.5 l/h, less mean weight diameter 42 mm, higher actual field capacity 0.47 and high field performance index 86 %. Therefore, side shift tiller can be recommended to farmers and found to be suitable for intercultural operation in Pant Tarai region.

Plant quality and survival prediction tools are useful when applied in the field in different agricultural sectors. The objectives of this study were to conduct a review and bibliometric analysis of the Dickson Quality Index (DQI) as a key plant quality indicator and with respect to its scientific applications. A third objective was to identify the main morphological and physiological parameters used in plant production research. The methodology and findings of 289 scientific articles were analysed based on the morphological, physiological, and mathematical parameters used as plant quality indicators in research on forest, medicinal, horticultural, aromatic, and ornamental species. During the last 10 years, the number of publications that have used the DQI as a plant quality parameter has increased by 150%, and Brazilian researchers stand out as the most frequent users. Forestry is the discipline where quality parameters and their biometric relationships are most often used to facilitate intensive plant production. Use of the DQI increases the certainty of prediction, selection, and productivity in the plant production chain. The DQI is a robust tool with scientific application and great potential for use in the preselection of plants with high quality standards among a wide range of plant species.

Various agencies have begun to research and introduce performance-related specifications (PRS) for the design of modern asphalt paving mixtures. The focus of most recent studies has been directed toward simplified cracking test development and evaluation. In some cases, development and validation of PRS has been performed, building on these new tests, often by comparison of test values to accelerated pavement test studies and/or to limited field data. This study describes the findings of a comprehensive research project conducted at Illinois Tollway, leading to a PRS for the design of mainline and shoulder asphalt mixtures. A novel approach was developed, involving the systematic establishment of specification requirements based on: 1) selection of baseline values based on minimally acceptable field performance thresholds; 2) elevation of thresholds to account for differences between short-term lab aging and expected long-term field aging; 3) further elevation of thresholds to account for variability in lab testing, plus variability in the testing of field cores; and 4) final adjustment and rounding of thresholds based on a consensus process. After a thorough evaluation of different candidate cracking tests in the course of the project, the Disk-shaped Compact Tension—DC(T)—test was chosen to be retained in the Illinois Tollway PRS and to be presented in this study for the design of crack-resistant mixtures. The DC(T) test was selected because of its high degree of correlation with field results and its excellent repeatability. Tailored Hamburg rut depth and stripping inflection point thresholds were also established for mainline and shoulder mixes.

This paper reports the results of an initial evaluation of a large collection of Australian perennial native grasses. The overall aim of the research was to identify accessions that may be useful for pastoral purposes and for controlling land degradation on hill-lands in the high (>500 mm) rainfall zone of south-eastern Australia. Accessions (807) representing 37 target species were established in spaced plant nurseries at Rutherglen and Wagga Wagga. Dactylis glomerata L. cv. Porto and Eragrostis curvula (Schrad) Nees. Complex cv. Consol were established as comparator (control) species. A range of attributes was observed over a 2-year period (19900—1992), including persistence, vigour, productivity, palatability, morphology, and characteristics related to seed production. Accessions were initially culled on the basis of their persistence. Data for a range of attributes were separately analysed using pattern analysis to provide a broad overview of the performance and characteristics of the remaining accessions. A number of selection criteria were applied which resulted in selection of a promising group of 20 accessions (12 species from 8 genera). The promising group of accessions will be evaluated further at field sites typical of hilly landscapes in the 500mp;mdash;600 mm rainfall zone of south-eastern Australia.

Harvesting is one of the major labor intensive works in rice cultivation. Appropriate harvesting machinery is urgently needed to reduce labor and production costs. Production cost of rice becomes high due to labor shortage and high wage rate during harvesting time. Techno-economic performance of Korean self-propelled reaper (KR), China self-propelled reaper (CR) and BRRI reaper (BR) were evaluated in order to identify the field constrains and problems of the reapers at Mithapukur of Rangpur, Bangladesh during Aman season of 2013. The actual field capacities of the KR, CR and BR were found 0.18, 0.17 and 0.15 ha h–1with the corresponding field efficiency of 55, 68 and 56%, respectively. The variation of field capacity among the models was due to turning time losses, weight of the reaper and operator’s skill. The fuel consumption of the reapers was 4.11, 2.61 and 8.39 l ha–1 for KR, CR and BR, respectively. The shattering loss of paddy harvesting was 1.66, 1.50 and 1.45% for KR, CR and BR, respectively. The break-even area of the reapers was 9.15, 7.82 and 8.43 ha yr-1 for KR, CR and BR, respectively. It is evident that the reaper could be used successfully as labor saving and user friendly technology to eliminate post-harvest problems in Bangladesh.J. Bangladesh Agril. The experiment was conducted in a well-known private livestock research and development farm in Bangladesh to find out the variation of semen quality parameter among three generations (F1, F2 and F3) of Holstein Friesian upgraded breeding bulls. A total of 312 ejaculates were collected from 6 upgraded breeding bullsthrought the experimental year. The recorded data were summarized using Microsoft Excel 2010 and analyzed using GraphPad Prism 5 softwere. Out of the 312 ejaculates, 273 (87.50%) were found to be creamy in color followed by 26 (8.33%) and 13 (4.17%) as yellowish and watery, respectively. Generation had significant (P<0.05) effect on ejaculate volume, consistancy, mass activity, sperm concentration, initial and post freezing motility. The highest (7.389±0.19ml) and the lowest (5.156±0.13ml) volume of semen were found in third (F3) and first generation (F1), respectively. The mass activity ranges from 3.74±0.04 to 4.30±0.05. Sperm concentration and pH varied insignificantly (p>0.05) but initial motility and post freezing motility had the significant differences among the three generations. Initial motility ranges from 75.87±0.32 to 78.40±0.38 percent and the post freezing motility ranges from 50.38±0.41 to 52.16±0.43 percent. It could be concluded that most of the semen quality parameters were influenced by generation and freezing. Semen characteristics were better in F2 followed by F3 and F1 generation in upgraded Holstein Friesian bulls. Res. Agric., Livest. Fish.7(3): 457-463,  December 2020
