This article presents a comparison of the proof validation behavior of beginning undergraduate students and research-active mathematicians. Participants' eye movements were recorded as they validated purported proofs. The main findings are that (a) contrary to previous suggestions, mathematicians sometimes appear to disagree about the validity of even short purported proofs; (b) compared with mathematicians, undergraduate students spend proportionately more time focusing on “surface features” of arguments, suggesting that they attend less to logical structure; and (c) compared with undergraduates, mathematicians are more inclined to shift their attention back and forth between consecutive lines of purported proofs, suggesting that they devote more effort to inferring implicit warrants. Pedagogical implications of these results are discussed, taking into account students' apparent difficulties with proof validation and the importance of this activity in both schooland university-level mathematics education.

Art-historical accounts of the last 200 years identify developments in the types, or “modes,” of address that a picture can present to a viewer as critical to the experience and evaluation of paintings. The authors focus on “anti-theatrical” theories of pictorial address and the complex and innovative “double relation” of absorption and acknowledgment introduced by the painter Edouard Manet. They report a case study of Manet's A Bar at the Folies-Bergère investigating expert and novice spectators' eye movements and utterances in response to the painting to find evidence that viewers seek resolution of the complex “double relation” that the theories describe.

This paper reports on a descriptive mixed-method study that aimed to identify the impact of expressive writing on relieving the academic stress of 157 undergraduate students at an Ecuadorian university. Data were gathered through two questionnaires and from focus groups. Results showed enduring relief of academic stress. Furthermore, they help to shed light on the need to study the impact of academic stress on university students and to look for different strategies that can alleviate it. These findings could help to understand students’ needs, as they have essential implications in teachers’ practices and, consequently, in students’ performance. In conclusion, expressive writing has a positive effect on helping to ease academic stress and overcome some difficulties caused by this issue.

This article was prepared based on qualitative research, case studied with research subjects 36 undergraduate students of mathematics education study program FMIPA UNNES in elementary linear algebra. Intended to find out students’ problem solving abilities aspects of algebraic creative thinking and to describe connections between aspects of students creative thinking in solving problems. Aspects of creative thinking include: fluency, flexibility, novelty, and elaboration. Data obtained through tests, observations, and interviews. Based on the analysis of the test results, as many as 17 students reached the minimal criteria which is at least 61, and 15 students worth under 61. This indicates that many students had difficulty in solving problems of elementary linear algebra that contain aspects of creative thinking. The creative thinking character ofstudentsinsolvingproblemsofelementaryalgebrawithaspectsofcreativethinking; based on data analysis, obtained information that students in solving problems generally tend to thought on aspects of fluency. Some students had difficulty thought intermsofflexibility.Onlyafewstudentsthoughtofthenoveltyaspect.Manystudents had difficulty thought about aspects of elaboration. In connection between aspects of creative thinking there were several sequence patterns in thought when solving problems. Only a few of the four aspects of creative thinking were patterned on the minds of students.

AbstractEarly childhood mathematics education is one of compulsory subjects for undergraduate students of PGPAUD Universitas Dharmas Indonesia. Researcher as well as lecturer pengampu this subject, using the method of lecturing and question and answer at the meeting to one to the fourth. However, according to researcher observations, students are less active to ask and express opinions. On the one hand the author realizes the potential of the students is very large because students who take this course in the academic year 2016/2017, most of the teachers PAUD spread across several districts in Bungo, Dharmasraya, Kerinci and Sijunjung who have minimal experience Two years of teaching. The author tries to apply student learning model facilitator and explaining for the fifth to seventh meeting, and make observations to see the effect on student activeness. The research design used a one-pretest-posttest design. The hypothesis was tested using paired sample t test with SPSS 20 software. The author used 95% confidence level.
