Teachers' understanding of basic arithmetical concepts is closely associated with the ability to present these concepts in classrooms. Numerous studies have been made to show the amount of understanding of arithmetic possessed by elementaryschool teachers and students preparing to become teachers. Relatively little study has been made of changes made in students' understanding of arithmetical concepts as they progress through the courses designed to teach these processes. This study deals with measuring students' changes in understanding arithmetical concepts before and after completing a lower division mathematics course for elementary teachers.

Abstract:The aim of this work was to increase achievement motivation in university students through introducing some changes in our teaching procedure. These changes were proposed in the TARGET system, and they are like that: a) Enrichment of tasks, looking to be attractive for learning; b) to provide opportunities for students to take responsibility for their learning; c) implement assessment systems varied and continuous, and d) make work groups that stimulate collaboration. To assess achievement motivation was applied the Questionnaire Academic Achievement Goal (CM- LA) to 94 students in the start the course. At final the course was applied again to 91 of the 94 initial. The results showed a significantly increased to outcomes motivation, but the increase was not significant in achievement motivation. We can conclude that they are two types of goals in student, and the high is the achievement motivation. And that changing teaching methodology, something changes in students, although the achievement motivation is stronger to change, for what is need to investigate further in this direction.

Smartphones are the mobile device most used by the population. Its use has intensified in recent years, leading to addictive behaviours among younger people. The objectives of this paper were to evaluate the degree of smartphone addiction, determine the sociodemographic factors that influence addiction and self-esteem, and establish the correlation between these two variables. The sample was made up of university students from the Faculty of Education Sciences of the University of Granada (N = 385), aged between 18 and 46 (M = 24.08; DT = 5.00). A quantitative methodology was used applying two internationally standardized scales. The study findings confirmed a medium-high degree in smartphone addiction, the influence of usage time on smartphone addiction and age and academic degree as factors influencing self-esteem. On the other hand, the structural equation model showed a negative correlation between smartphone addiction and self-esteem. Finally, the data obtained warns of the misuse that university students are giving to mobile devices and the need to implement measures to prevent addictive behaviour.
