This paper discusses the phenomenon of metaphor as an instrument of significance and expressionin the memorial architecture. The metaphor enables an indirect transfer of meaning via analogy. Inthe wider sense it represents expression of meaning via something else. The original linguistic form, the metaphor in architecture deeply permeates creative thought process, understanding and structureof perception alongside the end reception of the work. The metaphor as the type of architecturalcommunication initially appears as the conceptual system in the creation process and then in thereception phase i.e. conceptual interpretation of the sense and meaning through its expressiveattributes. This research shall be divided in two basic parts. The first part of the paper shall presentthe theoretical framework of metaphor considerations as an architecture concept. The second partshall be designed as qualitative research through case study.

This article intends to analyze the use of metaphors in a corpus of Donald Trump’s speeches on immigration; its main goal is to determine how migrants were depicted in the 2016 American presidential election, and how metaphor manipulated voters in the creation of this image. This study is multimodal since not only the linguistic aspect of speeches but also gestures are considered. The first part consists in presenting an overview of the theories on metaphor. It provides the theoretical framework and develops the main tenets of the ‘Conceptual Metaphor Theory’ (CMT). The second part deals with multimodality and presents what modes and gestures are. The third part provides the corpus and methodology. The last part consists in the corpus study and provides the main source domains as well as other rhetorical tools that are used by Trump to depict migrants and manipulate voters.

Inscribed in the scope of Applied Linguistics, this paper reports on the creation process of Bem Legal Journal and discusses its role as a formative space for pre and in-service language teachers. We present the theoretical framework which underpins the publication, providing an outline of the development of the journal since its onset: its objective, conception, and organization. Throughout a quali/quantitative analysis of the issues comprising eight years of publications, from 2011 (the launching of the journal) to 2019, we present an overview of Bem Legal’s publications. The analysis corroborates the need for spaces for language teachers to share their pedagogical practices and experiences and gives evidence to the benefits these spaces bring to all agents of language education.

This article develops a simple theoretical framework for combining the study of political and economic development. It applies this framework in the development of a theory of the creation and merging of democracy. The concept of comparative statics is discussed, along with an in-depth case study that shows the theory in action.

The aim of this chapter is to offer an alternative to the emigration and marginalization currently experienced by indigenous Latin American communities by creating ecotourism ventures in their home territories. By fostering profitable and environmentally sustainable economic activities enabling them to remain in their settlements, it is possible to alleviate the problem of socio-economic marginalization which they currently face whilst helping conserve the environment and their ancient culture. Qualitative research has therefore been conducted by means of a multiple case study. This is an introductory work and the authors' preliminary findings highlight the importance not only of social networks in the creation of indigenous SMEs but also of the culture, values, uses and customs of such communities in the identification of the profile of the indigenous entrepreneur.

The Multi-Site Study is a qualitative research approach that we designed to gain an in-depth knowledge of an organizational phenomenon that had barely been researched: strategic scanning. It combines several approaches to case study research, borrowing from the positivist tradition, the interpretative approach and the qualitative research corpus. It involves the observation and analysis of several sites using namely cross-case comparisons and explanation building techniques to analyze data. The following report primarily explains the thought process that led to the research decision, a description of the process itself is then presented, followed by an illustration and discussion of the results obtained and finally, a note of reflection on the entire experience.

This chapter shows the results of a study carried out in an immersion early education classroom in Galicia (Spain). The study focuses on how children in a bilingual context develop their perception of the world according to the concepts they are able to build around things in their environment, using the language as a reference. A brief theoretical framework precedes the presentation of the study. On the one hand, attention is paid to the pedagogical implications of second language acquisition in early childhood. Secondly, and most importantly, the nature of the bilingual brain is discussed through the consideration of the works of relevant authors in the field. Later, the case study is explained. For the purpose of the qualitative research, participants were presented with different images to be described in English and Spanish, and an observation table was designed in order to classify the utterances produced by the students. As will be discussed, results showed that students in immersion educational contexts increase their sense of the world when using both languages.

This paper shows the results about a qualitative research project focused on the analysis of three juxtaposed points of view about the perceptions regarding the teaching of English guided by native and non-native educators in a private university in Colombia. This study is based on the theoretical framework and concepts related to the nature of native or non-native educators with a methodology and analysis of the three perspectives: students, a native educator and a non-native educator, their opinions and experiences are contrasted to determine the academic positions and points of view of each of the parties involved, in order to understand how to achieve a more meaningful learning process. A questionnaire, an interview and a professor’s journal were used to collect information in this case study research.

Abstract This case study investigates whether collective entrepreneurial team cognition remains consistent throughout all stage processes when setting up a large-scale, distributed research infrastructure. A new “action phase model” has been devised, known as the “4 I’s of entrepreneurship”, with each “I” elucidating the entrepreneurial rationale behind various stages of the creation process: Intention, Initiation, Implementation and Introspection. The case investigated was BBMRI.se (BioBanking and Molecular Resource Infrastructure in Sweden) – a Swedish large-scale distributed research infrastructure aimed at harmonizing biobanking standards. Managers and key personnel involved in founding and/or operating the organization were interviewed. The results showed there was agreement regarding the need for the research infrastructure, while there were disagreeing perceptions of what the organization should be doing and regarding the difficulties it had faced. These developments would ultimately lead to BBMRI.se’s demise. The homogenous mindset would begin to dissipate once the Initiation stage was reached and worsened throughout the Implementation stage. The results indicate that BBMRI.se’s managerial structure, personal ambitions and lack of transparency and communication were key contributors to its ultimate failure. The implications highlight the risk of fragmented motivations as collective entrepreneurs turn their ambition into reality, if given too much autonomy.
