This chapter introduces Hirata Atsutane and his thought. Atsutane was a disciple of the late kokugaku scholar Motoori Norinaga, and was recognized as a “Great Man” of the same philosophical tradition. It discusses Atsutane contributions to kokugaku thought, which included new theories on spirits, the spirit realm, the afterlife, as well as the assertion of Japan's place of greatness in the world due to the favor and blessings of the gods of the Japanese pantheon. The chapter also examines the Ibukinoya academy, its succession by his descendants, and the national network of disciples. It highlights Hirata kokugaku through the lens of the Tsugaru disciples and their common interests, which included ethnographic research, attention to the north and spirits, and faith in the gods. Ultimately, it illustrates how Atsutane's concern for commoners in the “countries” as well as his religiosity drew a large following of disciples who formed a national network based around the academy. The chapter then describes the key figures and activities of disciple groups in Shimōsa, Shinano, and Akita to demonstrate social diversity within the academy.

Este artigo apresenta alguns itinerários de campo da pesquisa etnográfica que desenvolvi no mestrado, na qual busquei a compreensão de como se dá a construção da inteligibilidade dos acontecimentos acerca da pichação/graffiti em Santa Maria. Trato sobre a fase preliminar da observação participante, a partir de uma loja de street art, experiência que sublinha a importância dos laços de reciprocidade e a lógica dos sistemas classificatórios (as maneiras de colocar o mundo em estrutura, de ordenar intelectivamente o caos sensível) na pichação/graffiti. Dessa experiência indoor, desdobram-se outros cenários de interação com pichadores/grafiteiros, pelas ruas, dentre os quais destaco um domingo na zona norte. A partir do trabalho de campo e de uma leitura pós estruturalista do estrtuturalismo, percebe-se as inversões, as recombinações e os transbordamentos semânticos das categorias binárias (legal/ilegal, limpo/sujo, certo/errado, luz/sombra, belo/feio, visível/invisível...) do ato universal de classificar e, sobretudo, diferentes maneiras de construir os sentidos de viver e de narrar a cidade, a partir da pichação/graffiti. Palavras-chave Pichação/graffiti. I write about the preliminary phase of participant observation, starting in a street art shop, an experience that underlines the importance of reciprocal ties and the logic of classificatory systems (the ways of putting the world in structure, of ordering the sensitive chaos intellectively) around the pichação/graffiti. From this indoor experience to other scenarios of interaction with pichadores/graffiti artists, through the streets, among which I highlight a Sunday in the north zone of the city. Since the fieldwork and a post-structuralist point of view about estrtuturalism, we can see inversions, recombinations and semantic overflows of binary categories (legal / illegal, clean / dirty, right / wrong, light / shadow, beautiful / ugly , visible / invisible ...) of the universal act of classifying and, above all, different ways of constructing the senses of living and narrating the city, around the pichação/graffiti. Keywords Pichação/graffiti. In the two decades since the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) went into effect, Mexico has seen an epidemic of diet-related illness. While globalization has been associated with an increase in chronic disease around the world, in Mexico, the speed and scope of the rise has been called a public health emergency. The shift in Mexican foodways is happening at a moment when the country’s ancestral cuisine is now more popular and appreciated around the world than ever. What does it mean for their health and well-being when many Mexicans eat fewer tortillas and more instant noodles, while global elites demand tacos made with handmade corn tortillas? This book examines the transformation of the Mexican food system since NAFTA and how it has made it harder for people to eat as they once did. The book contextualizes NAFTA within Mexico’s approach to economic development since the Revolution, noticing the role envisioned for rural and low-income people in the path to modernization. Examination of anti-poverty and public health policies in Mexico reveal how it has become easier for people to consume processed foods and beverages, even when to do so can be harmful to health. The book critiques Mexico’s strategy for addressing the public health crisis generated by rising rates of chronic disease for blaming the dietary habits of those whose lives have been upended by the economic and political shifts of NAFTA.

The Bodo of the North Eastern region of India have their own kinship system to maintain social relationship since ancient periods. Kinship is the expression of social relationship. Kinship may be defined as connection or relationships between persons based on marriage or blood. In each and every society of the world, social relationship is considered to be the more important than the biological bond. The relationship is not socially recognized, it fall outside the realm of kinship. Since kinship is considered as universal, it plays a vital role in the socialization of individuals and the maintenance of social cohesion of the group. Thus, kinship is considered to be the study of the sum total of these relations. The kinship of the Bodo is bilateral. The kin related through the father is known as Bahagi in Bodo whereas the kin to the mother is called Kurma. The nature of social relationships, the kinship terms, kinship behaviours and prescriptive and proscriptive rules are the important themes of the present study.

We review the continuing and extensive spread of Papilio demoleus in south-eastern Turkey and in regions of Turkey and Syria adjacent to the north-eastern Mediterranean. Since the authors documented the arrival of this attractive but potentially destructive papilionid species at coastal areas of Syria in 2019, regular monitoring has confirmed successful overwintering there, as well as in Turkey. As previously indicated, P. demoleus is widely recognized as an invasive pest species in Citrus-growing areas of the world and hence its arrival is of potential economic importance to a region in which citrus is widely grown.

The Late Cretaceous succession of southern Utah was deposited in an active foreland basin circa 100 to 70 million years ago. Thick siliciclastic units represent a variety of marine, coastal, and alluvial plain environments, but are dominantly terrestrial, and also highly fossiliferous. Conditions for vertebrate fossil preservation appear to have optimized in alluvial plain settings more distant from the coast, and so in general the locus of good preservation of diverse assemblages shifts eastward through the Late Cretaceous. The Middle and Late Campanian record of the Paunsaugunt and Kaiparowits Plateau regions is especially good, exhibiting common soft tissue preservation, and comparable with that of the contemporaneous Judith River and Belly River Groups to the north. Collectively the Cenomanian through Campanian strata of southern Utah hold one of the most complete single region terrestrial vertebrate fossil records in the world.

This study examines the ontological problems in the aspect of the ratio of different cognitive practices and their mutual conditionality in the context of communication and their socio-cultural prerequisites, which is possible only if the traditional approach to the distinction between epistemology and faith is revised. Based on the idea of identity of common grounds of cognitive practices “belief” is included in the understanding of interpretation in the communicative situation for true knowledge in each of the modes of being. Belief in the philosophical tradition reveals the ontological foundations of hermeneutics. Three reflections are synthesised: the hermeneutic concept of understanding, the structuralist concept of language, and the psychoanalytic concept of personality. It is necessary to apply the method of phenomenological reduction to the ontological substantiation of hermeneutics in the Christian Orthodox tradition. Hence, the very natural seems the meeting of semantics, linguistics, and onomatodoxy, with the ontology language of Heidegger, the origins of which resides in in Husserl phenomenology. Fundamental ontology and linguistics, cult philosophy - both in different ways open the horizons of substantiation of hermeneutics. The beginning of this justification is the hermeneutic problem in Christianity, which has appeared as a sequence of the question of the relationship between the two Covenants, or two Unions. In the paper, the author attempts to identify the stages of constructing the philosophical concept of Pavel Florensky. As a result, the substantiation of the birth of the world in consciousness by the cult is revealed. Ontological tradenote words can be seen in Florensky through symbols. The symbol makes the transition from a small energy to a larger one, from a small information saturation to a greater one, acting as a lumen of being - when by the name we hear the reality. The word comes into contact with the world that is on the other side of our own psychological state. The word, the symbol shifts all the time from subjective to objective. The communicative model acts as a common point uniting these traditions. The religious approach as part of semiotic approach reveals the horizons of ontological conditionality of language and words, and among the words - the name, as the name plays a central role in the accumulation and transmission of information, understanding of the commonality of this conditionality in the concepts of phenomenology and Christian, Orthodox tradition.

This chapter argues that a philosophical account of human epistemology needs to be complemented by a linguistic one, informed by analytical and empirical experience of cross-linguistic semantics. The author outlines such a complementary account, based on many decades of empirical and analytical research undertaken within the NSM (Natural Semantic Metalanguage) approach. The main conclusion is that KNOW is an indefinable and universal human concept, and that there are four “canonical” frames in which this concept occurs across languages, the most basic one being the “dialogical” frame: “I know,” “I don’t know.” The author contends that both the questions and the answers concerning the “epistemology for the rest of the world” need to be anchored in some conceptual givens, derived neither from historically shaped Anglo English, nor from the European philosophical tradition, but from a more reliable, language- and culture-independent source; and the author shows how this can be done.

The Conclusion reviews the volume’s major themes. Russia and China have common interests that cement their partnership, and are key players in shaping the international order. Both seek better relations with the West, but on the basis of “mutual respect” and “equality.” While the relationship has grown deeper, particularly since 2014, China and Russia are partners but not allies. Thus, their relationship is marked by burgeoning cooperation, but still areas of potential competition and friction. Russia in particular must deal with China’s growing relative power at the same time that it is isolated from the West. While the Russian–Chinese relationship creates challenges for the United States and Europe and a return of major power rivalry, there is also room for cooperation in the strategic triangle comprising China, Russia, and the West. Looking ahead, the world is in a period of dramatic transition.
