Introduction: Training program is believed to enhance nursing students’ knowledge and performance in observational skills, which can be an essential factor in their future practice as nurses working in a psychiatric institution. Aim: This study aimed to assess the effect of training program for psychiatric nursing students to improve their observational skills. Materials and Methods: This study used an interventional design. The study sample included 80 nursing students undergoing clinical practice in psychiatric nursing during 2019-20 (10 months). The tools used for data collection were questionnaire to assess nursing student’s knowledge and an observational checklist to measure the performance. Percentage distribution, chi-square, and correlation coefficient were used to determine influence of training program on nursing students. Results: The training program imparted to students was effective as indicated by a highly significant difference between pre/post-training programs in all items of psychiatric nursing students’ knowledge. Furthermore, a highly significant difference between pre/post-training programs in all elements of students’ observational rating scale was also evident. Conclusion: The training program improved nursing students’ knowledge and performance. Particularly, their observational skills have brought confidence in their exposure and boast their ability in caring for their patients.

This study assessed the students’ performance in Psychiatric Nursing. It further described the profile in terms of assessment test, Nursing Care Management 105 (NCM 105) final grade, performance of nursing students in Psychiatric Nursing, and the relationship between the respondents’ profile and performance. The findings of the study served as basis for a proposed action plan.The descriptive-correlational design was used and an adapted questionnaire as instrument for data collection. The respondents were all the 46 level 4 nursing students who previously took and passed the NCM 105 in the second semester of SY 2011-2012 at the University of Cebu Lapu-Lapu and Mandaue, Mandaue City, Cebu, Philippines. Treatment of data include simple percentage and chi-square Test of Independence.The findings showed a majority of the respondents failed in the assessment test of Psychiatric Nursing administered by the review provider despite recently passing the NCM 105 course based on the final grade. On the other hand, their ratings were fair during the Psychiatric Nursing performance assessment. Furthermore, there was a significant relationship between the respondents’ profile and performance. In conclusion, seniors in the College of Nursing will improve their academic achievement in Psychiatric Nursing if they are motivated or reinforced with the aid of good models of learned behavior. Consequently, future studies must be conducted on students’ approach to learning and factors that will motivate a student to perform. Recommended citation: Diamante, V. A. M. & Amparado, M. A. P. This study aimed to assess the awareness and performance of Qom citizens towards using disinfectants and compared its relationship with geographical distribution of COVID-19 outbreak in Qom, Iran. The study was conducted by a researcher-made questionnaire during April and May, 2020. COVID-19 incidence data for each district of city was obtained from health department of Qom province. Data were analyzed using Excel, SPSS and ArcView (GIS) softwares. It was found that the highest level of citizens’ awareness (52%) was in the weak range while their performance (56%) was in the good range. According to Spearman’s correlation analysis, there was a strong correlation (rho 0.95) between the total mean of awareness and performance (p < 0.01). The highest incidence rate of COVID-19 was in district 7 which had the lowest mean score in both awareness and performance. In addition, the results of ANOVA (LSD—least significant difference) showed that there was a significant difference (p < 0.05) between district 7—with lower mean scores in awareness and performance—and other districts. Overall, it is concluded that citizens’ awareness level was lower than that of their performance. This conclusion not only calls for more training programs to be implemented in public places, schools, universities and governmental offices, but it also necessitates maintaining a proper and timely training about using disinfectants.

Background: The one virus stumbled the whole universe is the novel corona virus and impacted physical, emotional and social health status of almost every individual in the world irrespectively. Since the existence of Covid-19 till now it is been noticed that student nurses also affected by this fatal viral infection during their clinical practice. Objectives: The study focused on evaluating the effectiveness of webinar on knowledge regarding the strategies to prevent Covid -19 among student nurses of SIIHS, Honavar, Uttara Kannada. The study aimed at enhancing the knowledge level and influences others through effective health teaching at clinical areas and even in community settings. Methodology: An evaluative approach with pre- experimental, non-randomized, one group pre and post-test research design was adapted. The sample size was 294, purposive sampling technique was adapted. Data collected through testmoz web page and webinar was conducted by google meet app for one week. Data analysed by descriptive and statistical methods (chi-square and z-test) and interpreted by graphs. Results: The findings show that in pre-test 10(3.41%) had poor, 127(43.19%) had average, 157(53.40%) Good and 00% excellent knowledge level whereas in post-test 00% had Poor, 59(20.06%) Average, 176(59.86%) Good and 59 (20.06%) had excellent knowledge level. The pre-test mean score was 23.1 (46.2 %.) and of post-test was 35.6 (71.2%). The computed z’-test value showing significant difference in the pre (x?1=23.1) and post-test (x?2=35.6) knowledge score (p=1.18357, < z= -5.1679, critical z score=-1.6449 ? =0.05 level of significance). Hence the p value is greater than the z value (p(x?Z) = 1.18357e-7), it indicates the webinar was effective and the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected. Conclusion: The study was concluded as the webinar was highly effective and influenced the participant to gain sufficient information on prevention and the spread of Covid 19. Hopefully this enables them to apply

Introduction: Many factors impact the performance of graduating residents on certification exams. It is thought that most factors are related to the individual candidate’s ability, motivation, and work ethic. Less understood, however, is whether a training program has any impact on the preparation and performance of its graduates on certification exams. We present 20 years of results of a national preparatory exam that all graduating residents complete about three months before the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) qualifying urology exam. This exam, known colloquially as QUEST, aims to simulate the RCPSC exam with written and oral components. We aimed to analyze the impact of a training program on the performance of its residents. Methods: A retrospective review of exam results from 1997–2016 was conducted. During that time, 495 candidates from all 12 Canadian urology training programs undertook the exam. The performance of graduating residents from each individual program was grouped together for any given year. The different programs were anonymized, as the aim of this study is to assess the impact of a training program and not to rate the different programs. Statistical analysis using one-way ANOVA was conducted. Results: All training programs fall within one standard deviation of the mean for the written component, the oral component, and the overall score. The residents of four training programs had statistically better scores than the overall mean of the written component. The residents of three out of these four training programs also had statistically better scores than the overall mean of the oral component and the overall results of the exam. Conclusions: Most Canadian training programs prepare their residents adequately for this simulated certification exam in urology. However, there are some training programs that consistently prepare graduating residents to outperform their peers.

Introduction: It is necessary to identify the students' diversities when we are going to perform our teaching in the classroom, it is also essential when we prepare our lecture to conduct in the classroom. Teachers used various methods to teach the students in the classroom. Several earlier studies are available on the effectiveness of different models of teaching approaches. This study intended the effect of using brainstorming and presentation teaching-learning strategies. Methods: Exploratory study design was used. 42 female nursing students of 2nd year class from 4-year diploma of general nursing and eight professional nursing instructors of School of Nursing Rajanpur. Descriptive statistics were used to identify the effectiveness of elected (brainstorming & presentation) teaching-learning strategies. Chi square was used to compare the academic performance (marks obtained) between students having different teaching-learning style. Results: The result showed that mean and standard deviation score for brainstorming and presentation teaching-learning strategies were 10.16±1.51 and 10.97±1.27. There is significant difference between group categories (<.05). Conclusion: The findings from this study show that presentation teaching-learning method plays a notable effect on students learning. This study as well exemplify that different teaching-learning method with advance technology is more useful than the conventional methods of teaching-learning.

Background: The SSRIs being used as 1st line therapy in treatment of depression have delayed therapeutic effect which makes the patient vulnerable to an increased risk of suicide and decreased adherence to the treatment and will prematurely discontinue the therapy. The present study was conducted to evaluate if low dose mirtazapine-escitalopram combination therapy has any add on benefit over monotherapy with escitalopram.Methods: In a single-centered, comparative study involving patients with depression attending the out-patient after screening and exclusion, 60 eligible patients were randomly assigned to receive tablet mirtazapine 7.5 mg plus tablet escitalopram 10 mg intervention or tablet escitalopram 10 mg plus placebo intervention in a double-blind 6-week treatment phase. The primary outcome measure was the change in the 17-item Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HDRS) and Montgomery-Asberg Depression Rating Scale (MADRS) score from baseline. Participants were evaluated at baseline, 1st, 2nd,4th and 6th week. Results were analyzed using Chi-Square test for adverse effects and independent t-test analysis for efficacy parameter.Results: In the analysis of results at 6th week the numbers of patients achieved remission in mirtazapine group are more with a p-value of 0.018 which is significant and the numbers of responders in mirtazapine group are also more which is statistically significant on chi-square test. There is no significant difference was observed between the two groups with reference to occurrence of adverse effect.Conclusions: Adding low dose mirtazapine has an added benefit in terms of efficacy and getting remission early with more number of responders in the treatment of major depression.

Dentinal hypersensitivity has been defined as a short, sharp pain arising from exposed dentine in response to stimuli thermal, evaporative, tactile, chemical or osmotic and which cannot be ascribed to any other form of dental defect or pathology. This is a common clinical condition which may cause patients more distress due to exposure of dentin. There are various management options for this clinical condition which can be either home applied or in office techniques. Various dentifrices are commercially available in the market. The chemical compositions of the dentifrices are different. We conducted this study to compare the effectiveness of a potassium nitrate containing dentifrice and a Novamin based dentifrice in relieving dentinal hypersensitivity. The patients were divided into two experimental groups; group 1-potassium nitrate containing dentifrice and group 2-Novamin containing dentifrice. The sensitivity score was analyzed by using a verbal rating scale at baseline, at three weeks and at six weeks after using the dentifrices. Statistical analysis was done using SPSS version 17. Chi-square test showed that there was no significant difference between the effectiveness and efficacy of the two dentifrices. The results were highly significant (p<0.001). Hence, potassium nitrate and Novamin were equally effective in reducing dentinal hypersensitivity.

Introduction: Surgery creates anxiety for children, whose control and reduction are among the objectives of nursing care. Nurses have always sought scientific evidence for the use of innovative techniques appropriate for the level of understanding, recognition, and need of children, such as the use of poetry to reduce children's anxiety. Therefore, the present study aimed to investigate the effects singing songs about preoperative care for tonsillectomy on the anxiety of children undergoing tonsillectomy. Method: This quasi-experimental non-random study recruited 76 children aged 7-12 years old presenting to the hospital for tonsillectomy were selected with a convenience sampling method. In addition to the routine care, some songs were sung to children in the intervention group about pre- and post-operative procedures before, on the day of, and after the surgery. Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HAM-A) was filled out before and after the surgery and on the day of discharge in the intervention and control groups in order to measure children's anxiety. Data were analyzed in SPSS software using Chi-square, Mann-Whitney, and Fisher’s exact tests. Results: The results showed that the mean and standard deviation of anxiety in both groups (control=19.57 ± 3.65; intervention=19.78 ± 4.87) were not significantly different before the intervention (P=0.48), while a significant difference (P<0.001) was observed on the day of surgery between the two groups (control=34.28 ± 5.68; intervention=26.97 ± 4.6). Conclusion: Nurses can sing songs about pre- and post-operative procedures as an easy, inexpensive way appropriate for children’s level of development to reduce their anxiety. Furthermore, the family’s engagement in pre-operative training in an innovative manner can be a step forward in the development of family-based care.

Background: Pregnancy and childbirth are natural phenomena in a women’s life, associated with stress and anxiety, leading to adverse effects in the mother and fetus. Using complementary medicine, such as aromatherapy, music, light radiation, and aquariums in an environment that engage a person’s multiple senses can make mothers relax through mental deviations. Objectives: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of a Snoezelen room on fear, anxiety, and satisfaction of childbirth’s nulliparous women. Methods: This randomized clinical trial was carried out on 130 eligible women in a selected hospital affiliated to the Iran University of Medical Sciences in Tehran. One hundred thirty women were randomly assigned to the intervention (n = 65) and control (n = 65) groups using six modes blocks using the convenient sampling method. The delivery room was designed to distract women’s minds in the intervention group. Data were collected using a demographic characteristics form, Harman’s Childbirth Attitude questionnaire (CAQ), Visual Analogue scale (VAS) to measure childbirth anxiety, and the Mackey Childbirth Satisfaction Rating scale. Data were analyzed by SPSS version 16 using independent t-test, repeated measures analysis of variance, and Bonferroni and chi-square tests. Results: The results showed a significant reduction in fear in the active phase and postpartum in the intervention group compared with the control group (P < 0.001 and P < 0.001, respectively). Anxiety showed a significant difference and was lower at dilatation of 6 to 7 and 7 to 8 cm, and after childbirth in the interventional group. The satisfaction of childbirth significantly increased in the interventional group (P < 0.001). Conclusions: These results confirmed the importance of a Snoezelen room in the childbirth of nulliparous women, which can promote vaginal childbirth.

Nursing education system in Indonesia based on the competency-based curriculum is learning experiences that require nursing students to study both in campus and in health services areas. It can cause anxiety to the students. If a student experiences an ongoing increase in anxiety, it can cause negative effects so that students' learning motivation becomes decreased. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of mandala pattern coloring activity on the level of anxiety among nursing students in Dirgahayu Nursing Academy, Samarinda. This study was pre-experiment research with one group pre-test and post-test design. The population of this study was students in Dirgahayu Nursing Academy, Samarinda and the sample was students in 4th semester. The sampling technique used in this study was purposive sampling. Hamilton Rating Scale for Anxiety (HARS) was applied to measure anxiety level. Data were analyzed by using paired-samples t-test. The results of data analysis using Microsoft Excel 2010 with t-test formula showed p value: 0.004, indicating a significant difference in anxiety level before and after the mandala pattern coloring activity. Mandala pattern coloring activities can be used as an appropriate activity to reduce anxiety..
