INTEGRATING SCAT DATA AND GEOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION SYSTEMS TO SUPPORT SHORELINE CLEANUP OPERATIONS

ABSTRACT An analysis of the work performed by the various teams involved in shoreline cleanup operations has been applied to the design of an approach for the integration of data collected by the SCAT process with electronic maps produced by geographical information system (GIS) technology. This has led to the implementation of a PC-based system that incorporates a database of SCAT information, a knowledge base on oil behavior and shoreline cleanup, and a GIS. The system provides support to data collection using the SCAT approach for field teams and to map-based data analysis for planners and managers. In the course of this work, a set of the maps that are considered the most useful for summarizing information about shoreline conditions was designed and evaluated. This evaluation initially involved consultation with individuals experienced in shoreline cleanup. The applicability of the map representation for decision making was further tested during spill drills. SCAT surveys generate a large volume of data that need to be captured and integrated. There is a risk that this large amount of information might overwhelm decision makers involved in the management of shoreline cleanup operations. The paper describes the various modifications that were made to the SHORECLEAN software package to provide some solutions to these problems. These include providing specialized SCAT data entry forms, automating the links between a SCAT database and a GIS, and producing map representations that provide clear, useful, and nonmisleading information for decision makers.

Geographical Information Systems (GISs) are becoming more prevalent for retailers in their use for both day-to-day and strategic long-term decision-making. Given the array of internal and external databases they use, as well as the amount of organizational development, systems implementation is a most opposite picture of how GIS support retailing decision-making. This chapter presents the results of in-depth case studies, reflecting upon the GIS implementation experiences of a key UK food retailer, Highway Stores PLC. The company is one of the strongest contenders in UK food retailing (fourth in rank). More sites throughout the country are being explored and considered for development, and the implementation of GIS has supported Highway in determining locations where new stores can be built-up that fascinate new customers and ensure that existing customers are retained.

It is quite significant the effort given by firms to utilize all of the GIS potential. The GIS is more than a mapping information system, it is a powerful management device that should be explored to add value to firm’s management efforts. It is by fact that with the advances in new information technology, aligned with the facilities of the Internet has significantly contributed to push forward GIS projects into big firms. GIS has also become the new aim to software suppliers worldwide. TRANSPETRO has been investing heavily in geo-processing technology to guarantee a technological competitive edge. The firm believes that Geographical Information Systems will be an important contributor to the improvement of its management efforts on their terminals and pipeline network. The use of intelligent tools (smart pig) for inspections of pipelines’ integrity (ILI inspection) has been intensified by those advanced technologies observed in this specialized activity. In general, right after the reports of the inspections, the results are analyzed thoroughly by qualified professionals in this area. These specialists are responsible for attesting the results supplied by consultants that execute the inspection in the fields. Those reports and results are constantly checked by field correlations involving a number of inspection teams. Once accepted, the database is carefully analysed through technical criteria involving the severity of the defects indicated in the internal and external surfaces of the pipeline. The use of GIS tools for this kind of analysis is extremely important because it also allows specialist to analyze every kind of geographical data, such as rivers and sensitive environmental areas, among others. When those tests are finally finished a repair order is sent to the field professionals. Once again, the use of GIS is extremely important for support those locations of interference areas as well as the planning of the interventions in the roads, channels or points to be repaired. All of those actions, defects analyzed and the field applications are perfectly managed by the GIS technology, storing all of those strategic information in the database of Transpetro’s specialists. In this paper we intend to present the applications of this technology that analyzes the intelligent tools (smart pig) results in the field works with the GIS developed by Transpetro.

Geographical Information Systems have been widely used as a method for effective, efficient and robust decision making in the business world. It has also been used in the selection of precise and accurate tourist destinations. This paper discusses a review of geographical information system for Indonesian tourist destinations. Articles taken from sources in the form of national journals, international journals and conferences proceedings. The author limits the years 2018-2021. Furthermore, the writer will present the taxonomy and summary of the review results. Finally, the authors present research opportunities that have the potential to be studied in the future.

Data mode “good governance” developed in the last century for process of sustainable base system, providing basic information and on-line services, supports the development, challenges and opportunities in the context of globalization and integration. In this paper I discuss a framework for the design of e-Local Governance (eLG) that integrates Information System (IS), Geographical Information System (GIS) and Atlas with focus on ethnic minorities in Vietnam. The design framework is based on various classifications such categories as sex, age, ethnic group, education background and income. The database system is built to enhance the Committee for Ethnic Minority Affairs (CEMA) capabilities in the planning and decision making process by providing the authorities with data, internet GIS, internet communication and some ecological economic models to disseminate results to the ethnic minorities. The unique feature of the CEMADATA using GIS is that it helps users not only to improve the public services and to provide information and encourage ethnic minorities to participate in decision making processes, but also to support the competency-based training for IT staff

<p align="center"><strong><em>ABSTRAK</em></strong></p><p><em>Saat ini banyak operator telekomunikasi yang bermunculan di Indonesia sehingga menyebabkan terjadinya persaingan yang tinggi antar operator telekomunikasi. PT. Telkom selaku badan usaha yang berwenang dalam pembangunan dan pengembangan sektor telekomunikasi khususnya untuk telepon kabel, juga menyadarinya dan berupaya untuk meningkatkan pelayanan kepada pelanggan. Penelitian ini bertujuan membuat suatu basis data spasial dan model sistem informasi jaringan telepon PT. Telkom yang interaktif dengan memanfaatkan citra Quickbird yang bersumber dari Google Earth, Global Positiong System (GPS) dan Sistem Informasi Geografis (SIG) untuk penentuan rute optimal penanganan gangguan jaringan telepon PT. Telkom berdasarkan Algoritma Floyd-Warshall. Penentuan rute optimal didasarkan atas variabel impedensi, berupa jarak tempuh dan waktu tempuh yang diturunkan dari panjang jalan dibagi dengan kecepatan rata-rata kendaraan per ruas jalan. Hasil penelitian ini berupa Sistem Informasi Rute Optimal Telkom Bantul (SIROTOL) yang berbasis dekstop dan dapat berdiri sendiri tanpa adanya software SIG yang lain. Rute optimal program SIROTOL mampu digunakan untuk menentukan rute optimal penanganan gangguan jaringan telepon PT. Telkom Bantul dengan hasil yang akurat atau mendekati kondisi di lapangan. Hal tersebut dibuktikan dengan hasil validasi lapangan yang memiliki nilai uji akurasi rute optimal berdasarkan jarak tempuh sebesar 97.06% dan nilai uji akurasi rute optimal berdasarkan waktu tempuh sebesar 96.14%.</em></p><p><em> </em></p><p align="center"><strong><em>ABSTRACT</em></strong></p><p><em>Nowdays, many providers are emerging in Indonesia so that they lead high competition among telecommunication operators. As a state owned company that has authorities on the development of telecommunications sector, especially for cables telephone, PT. TELKOM also realize that, so they strive for a better service to the customers.This research aims to create a spatial database and interactive telephone network information system model of PT. Telkom by using Quickbird imagery derived from Google Earth, Global Position System (GPS) and Geographical Information Systems (GIS) to determine the optimal route telephone network for error handling based on Floyd-Warshall algorithm. Determination of the optimal route is based on the variable impedance of the travel distance and travel time derived from the length of road divided by the average speed of vehicles per road segment. Subsequent tissue analysis results are integrated with GPS navigation technology to help a network technician search for location of interference and network technicians to assist the movement towards the location of the phone to crash in the field. The result of the research is Telkom Bantul Optimal Route Information System (SIROTOL) desktop based and stand alone application. SIROTOL optimal route program can be applied to determine the optimal route accurately on Telkom Bantul’s error handling or at least close to field conditions. It can be proved by field validation results which resulted in accurate optimal route test value based on travel distance of 97.06% and travel time of 96.14%</em><em>.</em><em></em></p><p><em>Keywords: optimal route, network analysis, Floyd-Warshall algorithm, telephone network</em></p>

This study aims to see whether there is a relationship between promotion and decision making learners in following the tutoring in BBC Limbanang Kecamatan Suliki Kabupaten Lima Puluh Kota. This type of research is correlational. The population in this study is the citizens learn BBC learning guidance. Sampling technique in this research is stratified random sampling from entire population. Data collection techniques used are questionnaires, while the data collection tool questionnaire. Technique of data analysis by using formula of percentage and product moment. From the results of the study showed that: promotion done by the guidance of learning in BBC less good so that decision to follow guidance study in BBC considered less good also by learners.

Research background: the authors have explored that there are different idea management system (IMS) application types that could be used both locally and globally for diverse reasons and expected outcomes. There is ongoing research on how IMS could be applied for manageable idea management process. But there is a question – how do these IMS types help to set and achieve goals, and improve decision making? Purpose of the article: The article aims to clarify how an external and mixed web-based IMS could be used during COVID19 time for distance idea generation sessions, as well as, to solve complex issues such as decision making, goals’ setting and reaching them based on different idea generation sources and critical reflection on those ideas of evaluators. Methods: Literature review (data collection: systematic data collection from scientific data bases; data analysis: content analysis). The survey of n>400 enterprises with web-based IMS experience globally (data collection: a survey; data analysis: statistics). Findings & Value added: this paper explores how different types of web-based IMS could be applied as a tool and support system for decision making processes in general, decisions towards goal setting and its outreach. The research results provide also a practical contribution - it could help to choose the most appropriate IMS application type to reach estimated goals and to empower decision making.

Infectious disease is the leading cause of mortality in children under five. This study has investigated environmental factors related to the morbidity of acute respiratory infections (ARIs), diarrhea, and growth using geographical information systems (GIS) technology. Anthropometric, address and disease prevalence data were collected through the SEEM study in Matiari, Pakistan. Publicly available map data was used to compile coordinates of healthcare facilities. A Pearson correlation coefficient (r) was used to calculate the correlation between distance from healthcare facilities and participant growth and morbidity. Other continuous variables influencing these outcomes were analyzed using a random forest regression model. In this study of 416 children, we found participants living closer to secondary hospitals had lower prevalence of ARI (r=0.154, p&amp;lt;0.010) and diarrhea (r=0.228, p&amp;lt;0.001) as well as participants living closer to Maternal Health Centers (MHCs): ARI (r=0.185, p&amp;lt;0.002) and diarrhea (r=0.223, p&amp;lt;0.001) compared to those living near primary facilities. Our random forest model showed distance to have high variable importance in the context of disease prevalence. Our results indicated that participants closer to more basic healthcare facilities reported a higher prevalence of both diarrhea and ARI than those near more urban facilities, highlighting potential public policy gaps in ameliorating rural health.

Geographical information systems (GIS) are the systems that store location-based data and analyze them. GIS originated from the conventional cartographic techniques of simply drawing maps with a pencil and board. Following the adoption of computer technology, GIS further evolved as a geo-referenced dynamic information system, which can today be considered as a multi-disciplinary instrument that links different disciplines like geography, computer science, remote sensing, civil engineering, statistics, marketing, and other social and behavioral sciences. In this chapter, GIS is defined and its importance and functions are described in detail. Usage of GIS in marketing is explained, especially its development in marketing theory. Also, the value and scope of GIS in tourism management with a view to understand the spread of GIS applications in tourism is explored.
