Aims: This study aims to examine the effect of intellectual capital and debt policy on bankruptcy predictions and its implications for firm value. Study design: The design used in this research is causal research. Causal research aims to determine the effect or also the relationship between two or more variables. Place and duration of study: The population of this study consist of mining companies on the Indonesia Stock Exchange, with the observation year 2015-2019. The sampling technique used in this study is the purposive sampling method. After the sampling criteria were carried out, 13 companies met the sampling criteria, so the total number of observation was 52. Methodology: The analytical method used is path analysis, which is an extension of multiple linear analysis using SPSS 22 analysis tools. Results: The results showed that simultaneously the intellectual capital and debt policy had an influence on the prediction of bankruptcy and firm value, but partially the debt policy had a direct influence both on bankruptcy predictions and on firm value. The results of this study also prove that bankruptcy prediction indirectly provides a relationship between intellectual capital and firm value, However, debt policy will have a greater relationship if it is directly related to the value of the company without going through bankruptcy predictions, because when debt increases it lowers the zscore, which means the company is in an unhealthy condition so that it can reduce the value of the company.

Investors assess and demand banks to improve their risk management. Then, the profit earned by the bank is not yet known the effect of risk management on firm value. The aim of this study is to determine the effect of risk management disclosures on firm value with profitability as a mediating variable. The population used in this study are all banks listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) in the period of 2016 to 2018. This type of research is a correlational study consisting of thirty-six banks as research samples. Furthermore, the sampling method used in this study was purposive sampling. The results showed that the disclosure of risk management has a positive effect on profitability and firm value. Then, the risks and opportunities in this study can be managed well by the company so that it has a positive effect on increasing the company's profitability. The market implication assumes that risk management disclosures can be used as one of the relevant information to increase the value of the company. However, profitability in this study cannot mediate the relationship between risk management disclosure and firm value. The size of profitability produced in banks in Indonesia is not a determining factor in managing a company's risk management activities. So it can be concluded that risk management is disclosed solely because it fulfills corporate responsibilities and complies with government regulations.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to investigate the relationship between the intellectual capital (IC) information reported in the annual reports and market value of the companies listed on the Qatar Stock Exchange. Design/methodology/approach The study is based on a panel data collected from the annual reports and Bloomberg database for six years, specifically the periods 2010-2012 and 2016-2018. The total sample consists of 252 observations. The theoretical framework was developed in reference to the resource-based theory. The regression model is based on Ohlson’s model, which has been modified by including IC information. Findings The study found that there is a significant relationship between IC information and firm market value. This finding indicates that companies report their IC to help the stakeholders (e.g. shareholders, investors) to understand the real value of the company (which includes IC values). Practical implications The shift to a knowledge-based economy (KBE) has made knowledge a driver for economic growth, and it has become more important than capital, land and labour. This shift makes IC and resources vital for companies to create wealth, value and gain competitive advantage. The State of Qatar plans to transform its economy to a KBE in its “Qatar Vision 2030”. The findings of the study show that the companies have started to depend more on IC to contribute to transforming Qatar’s economy to a KBE. Originality/value This study could be considered a pioneer study to examine the association of IC disclosure and firm value in Qatar. Furthermore, prior literature has mixed findings, which justifies further investigation of IC’s effect on market value, particularly in the emerging economy of Qatar.
