PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to investigate the relationship between family succession, professionalization and internationalization in family businesses within the Brazilian context.Design/methodology/approachThe paper presents a multiple-case study method with three Brazilian family businesses that have at least two generations of the owning family involved in the business and an international presence of at least three years. In-depth interviews and secondary data were undertaken with family and non-family members of each case.FindingsThe authors' results show that a family business can boost its internationalization by introducing both succession planning and professionalization on international activities. As family members tend to be more risk-averse and focused on keeping the family business within the family, professionalization is a way of improving the firm's ability to expand internationally. This process tends to lead to lower performance by the firm for the first few months or the first year after the investment, but afterward, international performance tends to grow exponentially.Originality/valueOnly a few studies have been concerned on the relationship of these three dimensions. Thus, the research takes into account that professionalization and succession lead family businesses to improve their internationalization strategies.

This article aims at describing the role of Yayasan Karya Cipta Indonesia (YKCI) in copyright protection in Indonesia and the mechanism of royalty payment on Indonesian songs to the YKCI. The approach used in this study is normative approach as this study is conducted on secondary, primary, and tertiary legal materials, such as books, legal journals, and expert (secondary data) research results; its main legislation is Law no. 19 of 2002 on Copyright (primary data); English and Indonesia dictionaries and tertiary law which is the result of library research, supported by legal materials in the form of documents from field research results. From the collected legal materials, analysis in the method of the qualitative descriptive was conducted. The results indicated that YKCI's role as an administrator body in copyright protection is to collect royalties from parties that use songs or music commercially and help dispute resolution between creators, users or record producers of songs or music creations. Furthermore, the mechanism of royalty payments to YKCI shall be initiated by the authorization of YKCI by the creator or the copyright holder of the song, so on the basis of such power of attorney, YKCI exercises the collection or withdrawal of royalties by a percentage mechanism from the dealer's selling price through a permit saving per song at a rate for recording into a cassette, CD, VCD, and other media. Law Number 19 of 2002 on Copyright should be accompanied by the willingness and ability of the apparatus in enforcing it so that what to be achieved with the Act can be obtained. In addition, it is recommended that the government immediately issue provisions on the roles, duties and functions of the Copyright Council as well as the organic rules that explain the authority of YKCI which may be the appointment of the Director-General of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) as endorsement of a collective society in order to attract royalties. The government also needs to make a standard contract of licensing agreement between the Copyright of Songs and Music in the event of announcement. In addition, YKCI also needs to be open including to the power of attorney (Creator of the song) so that the Creator can know the frequency of their song announcement and the large royalty that must be obtained.

Introduction:The Canadian Agency for Drugs and Technologies in Health (CADTH) Common Drug Review and pan-Canadian Oncology Drug Review programs incorporate perspectives and experiences from patients and family members who might be affected by the resulting funding recommendation. Perspectives are provided by patient groups who use different approaches to gather patient input. Methods:We analyzed a random sample of ninety-three patient input submissions, drawn from a sampling frame of 532 submissions given to CADTH between June 2010 and June 2016. We looked at how groups described their information gathering methods in the original submissions or the published Clinical Guidance Reports. Results:Approaches were categorized according to whether they involved primary (n = 86) or secondary data collection (n = 130) and further sub categorized according to how data was collected. Primary data included: personal experiences, as described by the submission's author (n = 16); surveys conducted specifically for the submission (n=34); and new interviews of patients and family members on disease and drug experiences (n = 36). Half (forty-seven of ninety-three) of the patient input submissions included experiences of one or more patients who had received the drug under review. Secondary data included: published literature (n = 31); existing surveys (n = 27); past conversations with patients and family members (n = 36); experiences of patient group staff interacting with patients and family members (n = 19); and advice from clinical experts (n = 17). Many patient input submissions (sixty-eight out of ninety-three) reported multiple approaches to collect data. Use of two approaches was most common (thirty-seven out of ninety-three) with five or six approaches used in three of ninety-three submissions. Conclusions:Despite resource and timing challenges, many patient groups gather primary data to share with CADTH and find individuals with experience of the drug under review.

Today, many countries in the world are concerned about the well-being of pensioners, as their number is growing every year and pension systems cannot cope with ensuring a decent old age. The well-being of pensioners is part of the well-being of society, and the pension system is an institution for ensuring the well-being of pensioners. Therefore, it is important to understand the relationship between the financial well-being of older people and the country’s pension system. It is also important to understand that the family is an integral part of a person and therefore the well-being of each family member affects family relationships. This article is devoted to the assessment of the financial well-being of pensioners in Kazakhstan as a key factor affecting the family relations of a pensioner with partner, children, and grandchildren. Primary and secondary data were used for this study. The primary data were collected through interviews, which allowed us to obtain a subjective definition of financial well-being on the part of pensioners and its impact on family relations. This data was processed and encoded using the Atlas.ti program. Data from the Bureau of National Statistics made it possible to objectively assess the financial situation of Kazakhstani pensioners. The study found that the concept of financial well-being among Kazakhstani pensioners is more important for men than for women. Pensioners are not happy with their financial well-being, but this does not significantly affect their relationship with their families. The results of the study will allow us to assess the financial well-being of pensioners and can be used in the reform of social policy, pension provision of the country. Through the use of interviews financial literacy has been identified as one of the key factors, which depends on circumstances and the context.
