Aim: Close adaptation of cemented CAD/CAM restorations to their abutments is highly dependent on precise impressions and accurate replicas of teeth and adjacent oral tissues. This in-vitro study compared the effect of two die materials, as physical replicas of prepared teeth, on internal and marginal adaptations of zirconia copings to their corresponding abutments. Materials and Methods: A virtual model simulating a prepared premolar was designed and used for the milling of thirty identical metal models. Impression was taken of all models by Polyvinyl siloxane material. Fifteen impressions were poured in with Type IV stone and the other fifteen with polyurethane resin to make dies. All dies were scanned, and for each of them, zirconia coping was designed and milled. The copings were cemented to their corresponding metal models. Marginal gap between each coping and its metal model was measured at 20 points with a stereomicroscope (×60). Then the specimens were sectioned into two halves, and the internal gap was measured at seven points, including right and left cervico-axial, mid-axial, occluso-axial, and mid-occlusal. The data were analyzed with an independent T-test and repeated measure ANOVA at a 95% confidence level (p<0.05). Results: Mean value of marginal gap for Type IV stone and Exakto-Form groups were 54.31 ± 4.11 μm and 56.25 ± 4.24 μm, respectively. Mean values of the internal gaps for both groups ranged from 48 μm to 120 μm. Conclusion: Based on the results of this study, an internal and marginal adaptation of zirconia copings designed on digitized polyurethane and Type IV stone dies are clinically acceptable.

Masks in Documents (1929-1930), an illustrated magazine The masks in Documents should be read in a broad context, which goes beyond the columns of the journal to also embrace the birth of ethnology in France, the surrealist neighborhood but also the years to come, which will hardly see the development of ideas sketched in the magazine. At the same time, the presence of the masks highlights the disparate character of the journal itself, where the more or less ethnological texts devoted to the masks of traditional societies respond to much less academic articles in which the mask slips in the direction of the strange and monstrous. This allows to deconstruct Western aesthetics and, first and foremost, the human figure as its most codified and, therefore, most untouchable expression. The mask can even be considered as the embodiment of the concept of disparity which seems to govern the counter-aesthetic of the journal. Finally, the mask is emblematic of the internal gap in the journal, that between ethnologists and poets, or between academicism and subversion.

SUMMARY The aim of this in vitro study was to quantitatively evaluate the internal gap of resin composites of high-and low-viscosity used in single- and incremental-fill techniques in Class I cavities exposed to thermal cycling (TC) using optical coherence tomography (OCT). Cavities of 4-mm depth and 3-mm diameter were prepared in 36 third molars randomly distributed into four groups, according to viscosity of restorative resin-based composite (high or low viscosity, all from 3M Oral Care) and technique application (bulk or incremental fill) used (n=9): RC, high-viscosity, incremental-fill, resin-based composite (Filtek Z350 XT Universal Restorative); BF, high-viscosity, bulk-fill, resin-based composite (Filtek One Bulk Fill); LRC, low-viscosity, incremental-fill, resin-based composite (Filtek Z350 XT Flowable Universal Restorative); and LBF, low-viscosity, bulk-fill, resin-based composite (Filtek Flowable Restorative). Single Bond Universal Adhesive system (3M Oral Care) was used in all the experimental groups. The incremental-fill technique was used for RC and LRC groups (2-mm increments), and a single-layer technique was used for BF and LBF groups, as recommended by the manufacturer. The internal adaptation of the resin at all dentin walls was evaluated before and after TC (5000 cycles between 5°C and 55°C) using OCT images. Five images of each restored tooth were obtained. Images were analyzed using ImageJ software that measured the entire length of the gaps at the dentin–restoration interface. The length of gaps (μm) was analyzed using two-way repeated measures ANOVA and the Tukey tests (α=0.05). There was a significant interaction between material types and TC (p=0.006), and a significant difference among all material types (p&lt;0.0001), before and after TC (p&lt;0.0001). Increased internal gaps at the dentin–restoration interface were noticed after TC for all groups. RC presented the lowest value of internal gap before and after TC, while LBF showed the highest values of internal gap after TC. In conclusion, TC negatively affected the integrity of internal gap, whereas high-viscosity, incremental-fill, resin-based composite presented better performance in terms of internal adaptation than low-viscosity, bulk-fill materials in Class I cavities.

A polymer-infiltrated ceramic network (PICN) material has recently been introduced for dental use and evidence is developing regarding the fit accuracy of such crowns with different preparation designs. The aim of this in vitro study was to evaluate the precision of fit of machined monolithic PICN single crowns in comparison to lithium disilicate crowns in terms of marginal gap, internal gap, and absolute marginal discrepancies. A secondary aim was to assess the effect of finish line configuration on the fit accuracy of crowns made from the two materials. Two master metal dies were used to create forty stone dies, with twenty each for the two finish lines, shoulder and chamfer. The stone dies were scanned to produce virtual models, on which ceramic crowns were designed and milled, with ten each for the four material–finish line combinations (n = 10). Marginal gaps and absolute marginal discrepancies were evaluated at six pre-determined margin locations, and the internal gap was measured at 60 designated points using a stereomicroscope-based digital image analysis system. The influence of the material and finish line on the marginal and internal adaptation of crowns was assessed by analyzing the data using two-way analysis of variance (ANOVA), non-parametric, and Bonferroni multiple comparison post-hoc tests (α = 0.05). ANOVA revealed that the differences in the marginal gaps and the absolute marginal discrepancies between the two materials were significant (p < 0.05), but that those the finish line effect and the interaction were not significant (p > 0.05). Using the Mann–Whitney U test, the differences in IG for ‘material’ and ‘finish line’ were not found to be significant (p > 0.05). In conclusion, the finish line configuration did not seem to affect the marginal and internal adaptation of PICN and lithium disilicate crowns. The marginal gap of PICN crowns was below the clinically acceptable threshold of 120 µm.

AbstractThis article makes the novel observation that in German, CPs functioning as complements to nouns can appear to the left of their associated DP-internal gap position. It surveys the phenomenon and, based on a number of diagnostics, argues that the noun complement clause exhibits properties as if its surface position is movement-derived. Based on parallel observations in PP-extraction from DP, I show that the same constraints on movement apply modulo construction-specific properties of DPs with a noun complement clause. The findings buttress previous approaches to extraction from DPs that highlight differentiating and controlling lexical factors. Given the delicacy of the judgments involved in this phenomenon, the article is mostly devoted to laying out its descriptive properties. Tentative suggestions as to an analysis are offered in the end.

Introduction: Digital impression tools are an alternative to old impression materials and have developed significantly in recent years. These systems generally include two types of scanners: direct and indirect scanners. This article aimed to review and compare these two types of scanners. Description: Data were collected by reviewing a total of forty articles on dimensional accuracy, a combination of scans, and internal and marginal gaps for comparison of direct and indirect scanners. These articles were retrieved from PubMed and Scopus and published between 2010 and 2020 using the following keywords: intraoral scanner, lab scanner, marginal gap, internal gap, and accuracy rate. Results: Direct scanners had a lower amount of marginal and internal gaps, while indirect scanners had a lower deviation in more prepared teeth in the half and full arch due to the ability of stitching scans. Regarding the dimensional accuracy, the results of studies were inconsistent, but clinical studies pointed to the superiority of indirect scanners. The type of scanner suggested being selected depending on conditions such as the size of area, time, convenience of procedure, etc. The clinical results of both types of scanners were clinically acceptable.

1. Background and Objectives: Ceramic veneers represent the most appropriate treatment option for minimally invasive aesthetic rehabilitation. For long-term clinical success, the accurate marginal and internal adaptation of dental restorations are of paramount importance. The aim of this in vitro study is to assess the effect of a novel (patented) design of veneers compared to conventional ones on their marginal and internal gap to the prepared tooth surface. 2. Materials and Methods: Twenty-four lithium disilicate ceramic veneers are obtained using Computer-Aided-Design (CAD) and then milled using Computer-Aided-Manufacturing (CAM). The samples are divided into two groups: 12 conventional (CO) veneers (i.e., with a linear marginal contour) and 12 crenelated (CR) veneers, the latter with the novel sinusoidal marginal design. All samples are bonded to frontal teeth, and the adhesive interfaces are analyzed using two methods, optical microscopy and micro-Computed Tomography (CT): the former for the accuracy of the marginal gap and the latter for the internal gap (as well as for the homogeneity of the luting cement) of ceramic veneers. 3. Results: STATA and one-way ANOVA tests reveal significant differences between CO and CR veneers: (i) the marginal gap is smaller for CR (64 μm) than for CO veneers (236 μm); (ii) the internal adaptation is better for CR veneers: for a cement width of up to 120 μm, the covered surface for the CR group is 81.5%, while for the CO group it is 64.5%; (iii) the mean of the porosities within the cement is not significantly different (3.4 × 106 μm3 for CO and 3.9 × 106 μm3 for CR veneers), with a higher standard deviation for the CO group. Analytical modeling is achieved for internal gaps using the micro-CT results. The characteristic functions obtained allow us to compare the volume of luting cement for the two types of veneers. 4. Conclusion: The novel veneers design produces an improvement in the marginal and internal adaptation of the restorations to the prepared tooth surface. Thus, it provides favorable premises for better clinical performances.

This paper uses the super-efficiency data envelopment analysis (DEA) model to measure the higher education resource allocation efficiency (HERAE) of 30 provinces from China 2005-2018, and analyzes the regional difference and dynamic evolution law of the HERAE with Theil index and kernel density estimation, respectively. The results show that: The HERAEs of most provinces are DEA effective, but the HERAEs of a few provinces are DEA ineffective, calling for further improvement to the allocation of higher education resources in these places. There was a certain difference in the HERAE trend between eastern, central, and western regions. In the sample period, eastern region had higher HERAE than central and western regions. With the elapse of time, the internal gap of HERAE decreased to different degrees in the three regions. Eastern region had the largest gap, followed in turn by central and western regions. In addition, China’s HERAEs were polarized in time. With the passage of time, the polarization of regional HERAEs slowly weakened.

Abstract Statement of problem Accuracy of internal fit and microleakage for CAD-CAM systems used in metal coping fabrication and veneered with layering or pressing porcelain in ceramometallic restoration is unclear. Material and methods A master metal die was milled to resemble the right mandibular first molar preparation for coverage with ceramometallic restoration. Master die was duplicated to twenty-four resin specimen dies.They were divided into two groups according to metal coping construction technique using either conventional (C) or CAD (D) wax. Each group was subdivided into two subgroups (n = 6) according to the technique of porcelain veneering (layered or pressed) to fabricate ceramometallic restorations, where subgroup (CL, DL) were conventionally layered by porcelain and (CP, DP) were press veneered. A standardized thickness of metal and porcelain was performed in all specimens as per manufacturer’s instructions for techniques ceramometallic restoration construction. Evaluation of internal fit was done with silicone replica technique using stereomicroscope at ×24 magnification where the thickness of silicon layer was measured at 20 reference points on each specimen. Then specimens were subjected to thermocycling. Sectioned specimens were assessed for microleakage using a stereomicroscope at ×12 magnification along die-cement interface with a five scale score. Results Mean internal gap values of veneering showed a statistically nonsignificant difference between specimens made with layering(L) and pressing(P). Different techniques of wax construction showed a non-significant difference in internal gap values between specimens made with conventional(C) and CAD(D) waxing. However, a significant difference was found in the internal gap at different sites. The highest internal gap was found at the occlusal surface, while the lowest gap was found at the finish line. The highest mean microleakage score was found with CAD wax and press veneering, while the lowest mean microleakage score was found with conventional wax and press veneering. Conclusion Both construction techniques of ceramometallic restoration were considered reliable in restoration production within a clinically acceptable range regarding internal fit and microleakage. There is a strong positive correlation between internal fit and microleakage of ceramometallic restoration constructed.

Objectives. To evaluate the internal adaptation of recent pulp capping materials (TheraCal and Biodentine) relative to MTA when used as indirect pulp capping for primary teeth. Materials and Methods. Thirty primary molars were randomly allocated into three groups, group (A) was TheraCal, group (B) was Biodentine, and MTA was the control group (C). A standardized round class-V cavity (1.5 mm diameter and 2 mm depth) was prepared using a milling machine on the buccal surface of each tooth with the pulpal floor located on the dentin. Then, pulp-capping materials were applied. Finally, all teeth were restored by composite restoration. The internal adaptation of the pulp-capping materials to the dentinal surface was investigated by microcomputed tomography (Micro-CT) to determine the internal gap volume, and by optical coherence tomography (OCT) to determine the high-intensity reflection of light from the floor. Results. Based on Micro-CT findings, TheraCal showed significantly higher internal gap volume than both MTA and Biodentine ( p < 0.001 ), while MTA and Biodentine did not show a significant difference in the gap volume. Based on the OCT findings, TheraCal showed a significantly higher intensity of light reflection than both MTA and Biodentine ( p < 0.001 ); however, there was no significant difference between MTA and Biodentine. Pearson’s correlation test showed that there was a strong positive correlation between Micro-CT and OCT ( r = 0.686 , N = 30 , p < 0.001 ). Conclusions. Biodentine and MTA showed a comparable result in terms of their internal adaptation on the dentinal surface of the primary teeth, and both were better than TheraCal. There is a moderate to a strong positive correlation between Micro-CT and OCT in the measurement of internal adaptation of the tested pulp capping materials. OCT can be helpful and beneficial for the clinical setting and allow dentists to screen and evaluate restorations during follow-up.
