This research aims to assess the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reductions due to the use of biogas technology in Quang Tri Province. With a total of over 354,000 cattle in Quang Tri Province, Vietnam, waste from livestock becomes large. The GHG emitted from the livestock industry is not small, affecting the environment. Currently, there is little concern or documentation about the reduction of GHG emissions in small farms using biogas digesters in central Vietnam. This province has applied technological solutions, typically biogas digesters, but the amount of biogas production is not calculated accurately. Our survey was conducted in Vinh Linh District and Cam Lo District in March 2019 and involved 50 farms equipped with biogas digesters and 20 farms without it. The respondents were selected based on the information provided by local authorities, satisfying two conditions: livestock households and biogas users. The former group was asked 25 questions and the latter was asked 10 questions needed to calculate GHG emissions such as the number of animals and petroleum gas/ firewood consumption. This study uses formulas described in the 2006 guideline issued by IPCC to estimate reduced GHG emissions. The results showed that the average biogas production is 5.52 m³.household-1.day-1. Only 2% of the farms made the best use of the biogas digester. The surveyed households have not really used the most optimal amount of biogas production. In this scenario, this study recommends some solutions for solving the problem. In addition, the average annual emissions before having a biogas digester are estimated to be 20.53 tons CO2e/household/year. After using the biogas, the GHG emissions are reduced to 4.52 tCO2e.household-1.day-1. Thus, the replacement of daily cooking energies with biogas helps reduce 16.01 tCO2e of greenhouse gas for each farm per year.

Indigofera sp. is an environmentally friendly source of indigo dye for batik production and a material for livestock industry because this plant potentially serves as a forage protein source. This plant has the potential to be further developed and its cultivation requires quality seeds. Seedling growth is an important factor in achieving maximum productivity. Increasing its growth can be done by providing sufficient nutrients and using appropriate growing media. The results showed that there was an interaction between the concentration of Gandasil D fertilizer and growing media composition, namely at Gandasil D fertilizer concentration of 2 g/1 liter of water and a growing medium consisting of coco peat and compost with the parameters of plant height and stem diameter observed at 10 WAP. The Gandasil D fertilizer concentration of 2 g/1 liter of water affected the growth of Indigofera seedlings more effectively than other concentrations. A growing medium consisting of coco peat and compost with a ratio of 1:1 was more effective in boosting the growth of Indigofera seedlings than growing media consisting of other compositions.

PurposeThis paper examines the impact of livestock environment regulations (LERs) on the location dynamics of the livestock farming industry. Specifically, it tests whether a “pollution haven effect” (PHE) exists in the Chinese livestock industry.Design/methodology/approachThe authors manually collected LERs data based on the frequency of livestock-related vocabulary in government work reports from 279 prefecture-level cities from 2010 to 2017. Using China's implementation of LERs since 2014 as a natural experiment, the authors employed difference-in-difference (DID) to avoid the endogeneity problem.FindingsLERs have led to a decline in livestock production in regulated areas. Moreover, compared with areas with more stringent LERs – southern China and developed areas, areas where LERs are less stringent – northern China and undeveloped areas, attract more livestock industry. As a result, people in northern China and undeveloped areas are exposed to higher livestock pollution.Originality/valueFirst, most empirical studies on PHE focus on industrial firms. PHE in the livestock industry has received limited attention. This paper aims to fill this gap. Second, this paper regards LERs as an endogenous process and uses the DID method to generate unbiased results. Third, this paper introduces a novel measurement of LERs based on the frequency of livestock-related vocabulary in government work reports from each prefecture city. Fourth, this paper uses prefecture-level data to analyze the PHE of LERs, and thus obtains more reliable results.

The importance of studying the economic impact of animal health on the livestock industry, the veterinary service and the economic and food security of the country as a whole has long been recognized worldwide. The article substantiates the structured components of animal health. Each of the components and individual features are considered. Animal health economics has the following components: economics of planning veterinary measures, management and financing of the state veterinary service, analysis of animal health policy. Although economics and epizootology together with the organization of veterinary business are separate branches of knowledge, but their association forms the same economics of animal health, which provides effective management of animal health, forms a policy of financing the veterinary service at various levels and financing anti-epizootic measures. as well as analysis of animal health policy analysis.

The COVID-19 pandemic has affected social order and people’s health and has also caused a heavy blow to the livestock industry, affecting animal management and welfare. The livestock industry is one of the main contributors to economic growth in many regions, and it is of great significance to people’s lives and regional economic growth. COVID-19 has reduced the livestock industry’s market as well as consumers’ opportunities to purchase livestock products, resulting in no sales or low sales of livestock or their products. The main purpose of this study is to consider the impact of the pandemic on the revenue of the livestock industry, and to study the challenges arising from the pandemic to the livestock industry. Based on the perspective of financial statements, we estimate the impact of COVID-19 through the translog revenue function of listed Chinese livestock companies from 2015 to 2020, and the study results show that the COVID-19 pandemic has reduced the revenue of the livestock industry, but the decline in revenue of large livestock enterprises is lower than that of small and medium-sized livestock enterprises. In the last two parts of this study, we make policy recommendations to livestock enterprises and the authorities.

The livestock industry has become the most dynamic market globally. This is being driven largely by demand due to growth in purchasing power and modern technology. With the constant improvement of the degree of livestock products trade, the market operation and structure of livestock products are also transformed. The survival and development of the livestock industry are dependent on the comprehensive strength of the whole industry chain, therefore, the study of the technology innovation, supply chain risk, and digital marketing towards the business performance of the livestock industry in Malaysia is required. Hence, the ability to conceptualize, observe and give due recognition to the possible relation amongst these variables in question by the livestock industry, perhaps could bring about an insightful engagement for the betterment of the livestock business performance. This paper does not attempt to provide a comprehensive overview of livestock markets and trends in Malaysia or elsewhere in developing countries. On the basis of this, the relationship between technology innovation, supply chain risk, digital marketing, and livestock industry performance is used in this paper, which improves the whole performance of the livestock industry and enhances international competitiveness.
