Plummer-Vinson syndrome (Paterson-Brown-Kelly) is a rare entity, characterized by dysphagia, esophageal web formation, and iron deficiency anemia. We present the case of a 46-year-old woman with a clinical history of iron deficiency anemia who subsequently presents dysphagia and odynophagia. A subcricoid web that was successfully broken with the endoscope was found. First contact doctors should be familiar with the symptoms of Plummer-Vinson syndrome, and take them into account, when addressing a patient with the classic triad. Since the syndrome is a precancerous condition with high malignant potential, early diagnosis and treatment is of utmost importance for better prognosis. Keywords: Plummer-Vinson syndrome; chronic iron deficiency anemia; esophageal membrane; squamous cell esophageal cancer; Paterson-Brown-Kelly syndrome.

The aim: To conduct a morphological study of endometrial tissue to identify changes characteristic of viral lesions to develop improved antirelapse treatment of HPE in women of reproductive age. Materials and methods: We surveyed 90 patients of the gynecological department who sought medical for hyperplastic processes of the endometrium in reproductive age. All women underwent hysteroscopy, the resulting material was subjected to morphological examination. Results: It became known that the virus is involved in the pathogenesis of endometrial hyperplasia. It is likely that it exists in epitheliocytes not only as a “passenger”, but also as an etiological factor. It became known that it was in complex hyperplasia with atypia that the percentage reached the highest level, which is a precancerous condition. Conclusions: Typical morphological change of the endometrium – multinucleation, multinuclearity and koilocytotic atypia in women of childbearing age with HPE – was revealed. The presence of infectious pathogens in the endometrium of patients with HPE can be regarded as one of the possible triggers for the development of hyperplastic processes.

BACKGROUND : PIN is a well known precancerous condition of prostatic carcinoma. Transurethral resection of prostate has become the most prominent and the easiest way, to morphologically evaluate lesions of PIN. But clinicians are sometimes confused by the grading that is given in the report. So there is a need to define the diagnostic criteria and differential diagnosis of PIN using newer diagnostic techniques to assist in the better diagnosis and grading. AIMS AND OBJECTIVES: To evaluate whether the diagnostic criteria can be defined PIN and using newer techniques for PIN grading to improve the clinical management of patients with prostatic lesions. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This study will be done in the Department of Pathology MGM Hospitals, Warangal for a period of 2 years and includes consecutive cases of TURP specimens from the patients who present with obstructive symptoms as a major clinical presentation and correlated with PSA levels. INCLULSION CRITERIA: Patients who present with obstructive symptoms as a major clinical presentation. RESULTS: 1.160 cases of TURP specimens were studied out of which 53 (33.12%) cases are PIN. BPH -78 (48/74%), PC-15 (9.37%), SM-14 (8.75%) 2. Majority cases are low grade PIN 34 out of 53 cases (21.25%) High Grade PIN 19 out of 53cases. (11.87%) 3. High Grade PIN and prostatic Carcinoma shared increased incidence and severity with advancing age in the study. Majority of HG PIN cases in our study noted in (70-79 years of age) 4. The risk of carcinoma is more in cases of High Grade PIN (68.42%) than in low grade PIN (17.64%) 5. This warrants are need for repeat prostatic biopsies to diagnose the invasive carcinoma in patient with High grade PIN.

Oral submucous fibrosis is a chronic, progressive, scarring precancerous condition of the oral cavity seen predominantly in the Indian subcontinent and southeast Asia. OSMF is caused by consumption of areca nuts and tobacco products. Patients suffer from trismus and other related problems. Interincisal mouth opening ranges between 24 to 55 mm in this study, hence making the study groups between I to III. The aim of the study is to find a correlation between age, habits and treatment outcome in OSMF patients. Data was procured from patient records of 86000 patients who visited from between June 2019 and March 2020 and analysis was done. Age is between 21 to 64 years. Male preponderance is seen 92.4% pan chewing is common (35.9%) Interincisal opening is between 24 to 55 mm, making the OSMF grade I and II. OSMF affects people aged 21 to 64 years and the interincisal mouth opening is between 24 to 55 mm, making the grades I and II.

Abstract Background: Kita-Kyushu lung cancer antigen-1 (KK-LC-1) is a cancer/testis antigen (CTA) and is an attractive target for immunotherapy. An earlier study from our group demonstrated frequent KK-LC-1 expression in gastric cancers (GC) and non-tumor sites of the stomach carrying a tumor. Additionally, there was a correlation to Helicobacter pylori (Hp) infection. Currently it remains unclear whether KK-LC-1 is expressed in stomachs without gastric cancer. Methods: In the present study, we investigated differences in KK-LC-1 gene expression at non-tumor sites of stomachs with or without a tumor from 118 GC patients and 115 non-GC patients. Fisher’s exact test was used for the statistical analyses. Results: Our results show that KK-LC-1 gene expression was detected in 77% of non-tumor sites in stomachs with a tumor. Such findings were significantly higher than in stomachs without a tumor (7%, P <0.0001). All patients with KK-LC-1 expression at non-tumor sites of their stomachs without tumors carried Hp.Conclusions: KK-LC-1 appears to be detected in the stomach’s precancerous condition, but not in an atrophic stomach with Hp. KK-LC-1 may be a useful marker for gastric cancer prediction.

Barrett’s esophagus (BE) is a condition in which a stratifi ed squamous epithelium of the distal esophagus is replaced with a metaplastic intestinal-type columnar epithelium. BE is a precancerous condition associated with an increased risk of esophageal adenocarcinoma (EA). Current clinical practice guidelines recommend endoscopic surveillance with histological examination of esophageal biopsies for early detection of the EA. Epithelial dysplasia is the only clinically meaningful indicator of the risk for development carcinoma in BE, which is now used in practice. The existing limitations of this approach require new tools for the detection of early neoplastic disorders in BE and additional criteria to assess a risk for their progression. Within the framework of this review, the most signifi cant genetic and molecular indicators that can claim the role of diagnostic or predictive biological markers in BE are considered.

Plummer-Vinson syndrome (PVS), also called sideropenic dysphagia or Paterson-Kelly syndrome, is a condition characterized by a triad of chronic iron-deficiency anemia, esophageal webs, and dysphagia. This syndrome is considered as a precancerous condition due to the occurrence of squamous cell carcinoma in the hypopharynx, upper esophagus and oral cavity. Although exact data on the prevalence of the syndrome are not evidently available, physicians need to recognize this rare syndrome. Most of the patients are elderly Caucasian women aged 40 to 70 years, but cases in children, adolescents, or men have also been described. At present, the prevalence of PVS is decreasing due to improvement in nutritional habits and intake of iron supplements. Therefore, the syndrome accompanied with gastric cancer is even more uncommon. We report a case of a 61-year-old woman with PVS who was diagnosed with gastric cancer and improved after treatment.
