The paper is devoted to teaching pragmatic aspect of scientific and technical translation, i.e. the problems of comprehension and analysis of inner senses of the ST and adequate rendering of its content in the TT, acquiring translation techniques and mastering written translation skills, implementation of acquired knowledge into real translation practice.

The understanding of ‘term’ in traditional terminology theory reduces the lexical problems of technical translation to a mere substitution of the source-text term by a target-text term. In translation studies however , a number of issues have been highlighted which are not covered by traditional terminology theory, e.g. cultural specificity or the importance of textual and pragmatic considerations. This paper first analyses how the new communication and cognition-oriented approaches to terminology account for these aspects of technical translation. Then it briefly presents results of a language-pair and domain-specific study which allows us to exemplify some of the issues that have been discussed and to reach some specific conclusions for the translator of this linguistic combination.

Information technology has changed the professional environment of scientific and technical translators, who must work with new formats and channels of information. To meet these new challenges, translation teachers must place special emphasis on the importance of the non-textual information evolving around multimedia texts and adopt a more dynamic approach towards audiovisual translation (A VT). In this paper, we argue for the inclusion of graphic information as a new focus for A VT, and present the results of a research project aimed at designing teaching materials for audiovisual, scientific and technical translation. These materials highlight the potential benefits of audiovisual resources for all users in the acquisition of subject field knowledge and terminology and the constraints imposed on translation by visual and acoustic material.

This paper examines cohesion and coherence within the larger framework of an equivalence-relevant investigation based on a theoretically well-founded translation comparison and a highly refined translation corpus. Cohesion is analysed at the textual, more specifically at the sentential/supra-sentential, level taking due account of the underlying coherence operating at the text¬in-context level. The research investigates and exemplifies the English demonstrative determiner/pronoun ‘this’ as a cohesive device of reference and its German potential equivalents, and indicates trends in translation solutions. The results of this analysis will show that coherence – established by the interaction of intended sense and informed inference – is upheld in the German TT by cohesive means which, though occasionally quite different from their ST counterparts, contribute toward achieving “equivalence in difference” (Jakobson [1959]1992) at the overall text-in-context level.

Abstract Today's healthcare challenges with unmet clinical needs, high regulation and certification standards, and increasing costs demand faster innovation and technical translation. To address this challenge, Stanford released a fellowship called Biodesign, where need-based healthcare innovation is taught with the approach identify, invent and implement. Since then, different European institutions have adopted the Biodesign innovation approach and organized within the Biomedical Engineering- Innovation, Design, and Entrepreneurship Alliance (BMEidea EU). The generation of successful healthcare innovation isn't only based on participating in an Innovation teaching program. It is much more a matter of having the right innovation ecosystem with an open creative mindset, experts, the respective stakeholders, and access to essential resources within reach (close to clinic). Through a qualitative survey, seven Biodesign based teaching programs in the EU were examined. The study from an academic perspective contains information covering Resources, Activities, Academic Performance, and Transfer Performance. The demand for new healthcare innovations, and especially innovation training programs that address challenges, developed collaboratively with the respective stakeholders, is increasing. Additionally, there is a growing expectation that innovation needs to reach the market quickly and be implemented accordingly. A Healthcare Innovation Ecosystem, where different entities function as a productive unit with a shared vision and committed to application-driven research and technology transfer, will increase innovation's success and adaptation.

Equivalence theory in translation, which is source-text focused, has always been an influential guideline for translators. However, recently, scholars argue that equivalence in translation is not totally possible, and in the author’s opinion, it is not even necessary in many cases in technical communication. In this article, the author tries to approach technical translation guidelines from a different angle, which is purpose an audience-focused. The paper discusses how to improve and evaluate the acceptability or readability of technical translation in terms of the expectations of the audience and the need for the translation purpose. Taking a Traditional Chinese Medical website as an example, the author points out that only by targeting the audience’s needs at the semantic, syntactic, textual, and content levels can a technical translator produce effective technical translations accepted and appreciated by readers.

The present paper establishes the possibility of presenting the mental lexicon of a technical translator in the form of a classification frame that structures the terminological composition of scientific and technical language in the translation consciousness during the cognition of aviation reality. It is stated that the terms, which are the main means of fixation, accumulation and transfer of scientific knowledge, become the object of cognitive activity of the translator, who performs cognitive work on their accumulation and structuring in their own mental space to operate them during translation, which emphasizes the heuristic nature translation activities. At the same time, the linguistic component of the mental lexicon allows us to consider its structure, starting from the language itself. The paper attempts to present a mental lexicon within the framework of scientific and technical translation in the form of a set of frames that arrange the terminological structure of language in the mind of the translator as they learn the aviation reality. It is noted that in this case the main task is to show the possibilities of the frame in terms of accumulating and structuring the verbal knowledge about a particular aviation phenomenon or process, in English and Ukrainian with simultaneous identification of interlanguage equivalents.

The integration of Ukrainian national higher education system into the global higher education and research space requires targeted reform of higher education in order to ensure its competitiveness. The priority of the development of higher education in Ukraine is the training of highly qualified, professionally competent professionals who are capable of self-realizing in the modern information society, are ready for continuous improvement and professional self-development. Modern scientific and technological progress is necessary for the socio-economic and cultural development of humankind, and its achievements must be available for use by representatives of different languages and cultures. An important role of technical translation specialists is to ensure access to modern advanced scientific and technical knowledge from around the world without language barriers. Thus, the issue of professional training of highly qualified, competitive and intellectually developed specialists in technical translation in the world and, in particular, in Ukraine becomes especially relevant. The scientific, technical and economic potential of the United States as a highly developed country has led to interest in studying the experience of this leading country in higher education in the training of technical translators in high-ranking US universities.
