The Comprehensive Assessment of Psychopathic Personality–Lexical Rating Scale (CAPP-LRS) is a self-report instrument designed to index psychopathy according to the CAPP psychopathy framework. Developed with the expressed goal of advancing the state of knowledge regarding the specific features of psychopathy, the CAPP model and associated instruments have garnered increasing attention and support in the field. Despite the conceptual strength of the CAPP model, the advanced lexical structure of its primary research tool (the CAPP-LRS) has led researchers to question the utility of the instrument for use with some populations of interest (e.g., forensic/correctional and adolescent/young adult samples). The aim of the present work was to address this issue by creating a lexically simplified, though functionally equivalent, version of the CAPP-LRS to increase accessibility to critically relevant populations. A set of two studies ( N = 602) describes the adaptation protocol and the initial validation of the modified instrument.

Teeth with extraordinary length are a rare condition that complicates endodontic procedures due to the difficult in being reached the working length and making the adequate preparation of the root canal, once there are no endodontic instruments longer than 31 mm commercially available. This study presents a description of technical adaptations for endodontic preparation of a maxillary canine with 39.59 mm of length. The procedures adopted were based on the consultation of the literature regarding the treatment of long teeth, and included endodontic instrument adaptation and changing the reference point of the instrument. This study shows that extremely long teeth can be successfully instrumented endodontically using the described clinical techniques.

Abstract Objective: The aim of this study was to describe the results of food environment assessments completed after Hurricane Florence in North Carolina (2018) and Hurricane María in Puerto Rico (2017), and provide recommendations for assessing disaster food environments. Methods: Adapted structured observation protocols were used to conduct rapid assessments of the availability, price, and quality of specific foods in retail markets. Results: In both settings, unhealthful food items (soda, chips, fruit-flavored drinks) and milk were widely available and at lower prices than domestic averages. The adapted instrument in Puerto Rico allowed for documentation of greater availability of canned items compared with fresh or frozen foods. In both settings, researchers noted the inability of the instrument to document items that are important to assess postdisaster: ready-to-heat and ready-to-eat foods; food preparation facilities and supplies; hygiene supplies; and empty shelf-space. Conclusions: The instruments, despite their limitations, were able to capture food availability issues in postdisaster environments. Future instrument adaptation is necessary to capture availability of all major food groups, healthful and unhealthful options, shelf-stable, ready-to-eat, and ready-to-heat foods versus other formats (fresh, frozen), and cooking and hygiene supplies.

Patients with diabetes are experts in the lived experience of self-management, making patient engagement beyond the role of research “subject” imperative for the creation of health care solutions that meaningfully address the problems they identify. We discuss our research team’s relationship with our university’s College Diabetes Network (CDN), an advocacy and support group for emerging adults with diabetes. Our collaborative research relationship has spanned three years, and multiple research studies with members serving as co-designers, consultants, and co-investigators. We discuss the CDN’s role in two particular studies in which CDN members made substantive contributions to study design, instrument adaptation, and interpretation of findings. Key CDN members played a larger role in research activities and facilitated sustained engagement with the larger university CDN chapter. Barriers encountered included navigating research regulatory requirements while engaging CDN members in research and facilitating sustained engagement as CDN membership changes.

Aim: To evaluate whether family functionality, using the instrument “Adaptation, Partnership, Growth, Affection, and Resolve” (APGAR) and its components, as well as other health indicators, influences the survival of nonagenarians and centenarians. Methods: Participants were randomly identified and evaluated in their homes of Porto Alegre — Brazil. Death or survival information were verified by telephone or death registry system. Follow-up time measured the number of months between the first evaluation and the date of death or the last contact. Participants with APGAR ≥ 7 were classified with good functionality. The APGAR components were analyzed as yes or no. Results: Two-hundred-fourteen participants (73% women, age 92.4±3.59 years) were followed during 23±10.0 months. Sixty-on (28.5%) died. Survivors were younger (p<0.001), had better cognitive performance (p<0.001), and reported more frequently leaving home (p=0.010) and participating in social activities (p<0.001). Survivors had a similar frequency for good family functioning (90% p=0.994), but more often they were satisfied with their family time (p=0.032) and with the way the family showed affection and reacted to their feelings (p=0.083). Conclusions: Family affection and time were significantly associated with lower hazard-ratio, even adjusted for age, as well as cognitive performance, social activities and the habit of leaving home. In addition to the preservation of cognitive performance, to remain physically and socially active, family support is related to the higher survival rate in nonagenarians and centenarians in Brazil.

This study aimed to analyze the influence of maternal acceptance-rejection and self-esteem adolescents on bullying behavior of junior high school students. The study took place at two junior high schools located in Bogor City and involved 86 students who were selected using simple random sampling. The measuring instrument used in this study was a PAR adaptation from Rohner (1986) with a reliability of 0.785, self-esteem instrument adaptation from Rosenberg's (1965) with a reliability of 0.773, and a bullying behavior instrument adaptation from Hastuti, Herien, and Djaswelma (2015) with the reliability of 0.902. Data analysis used in this study was descriptive statistical analyses and statistical analyses of Pearson correlation and linear regression tests. The data were collected using self-administered questionnaires guided by the researcher. The results showed that more than half of adolescents had perceptions of affective parenting. However, about 40 percent of adolescents have self-esteem in the low category. The most common type of bullying behavior adolescents is verbal bullying. The test results showed that parents with aggression and undifferentiated rejection are unfortunately related to the adolescents’ bullying, and low adolescents’ self-esteem is followed by bullying behavior. Gender (male adolescents) and low self-esteem had a significant effect on bullying behavior. Meanwhile, parental rejection had a significant positive effect on bullying behavior.

In the last years, entrepreneurship has generated a strong interest like potential generator of opportunities and professional growth and economics being the Institutions of Higher Education (IES), the link to transmit in the students the competences and skills required that help to boost the enterprising activity. The objective of this paper is to analyze the intention of the selection of a Civil Engineering degree from students of an Institution of Higher Technological Education in Hidalgo, Mexico, based on the Theory of Planned Behavior, with the goal to identify its relationship with the Degree of Entrepreneurship. The GUESSS instrument adaptation was applied, a sample of n=198 students. The type of research in quantitative approach, descriptive and relational scope. The results showed that the intention to choose the career to undertake at the end of their studies is 67.7%, increasing to 81.8% five years after concluding their studies. Regarding the scales that determine the Entrepreneurship Initiative, the one that has a greater perception of the media on the part of the students is Entrepreneurial Intent and the one of low Score is Control of Perceived Behavior. Finally, Pearson's Chi-square value indicates a result of 0.021 which defines that exist a dependency relationship between the students' career choice at the end of their studies and the Degree of Entrepreneurship.
