The current study seeks to investigate the mediating role of employee communication in the relationship between organisational culture, employee motivation, the workload on employee performance in Batam Port Management Partnership and Business Development Section, Indonesia. This quantitative study involved 50 Batam Port Management Partnership and Business Development with 150 respondents participated in this study. The data collected using a census approach by distributing the questionnaire, and the data analysed with structural equation modelling – partial least square (SEM-PLS). This study indicated that Organizational Culture and Communication have a significant positive relationship with employee performance. Besides that, Motivation and Workload do not have a significant effect on employee performance. In addition, communication mediates the relationship between workload and employee performance. In conclusion, the present study proved that communication is a significant factor in determining employee performance and plays a significant role as mediating variable between workload and employee performance. This study contributes significantly to the theory and government policy in the term of human resource development. The findings of this study can assist the Batam Port Management Partnership and Business Development in increasing their employee performance through communication.

Relying on the international 2030 Agenda and specifically applying sustainable development’s triple bottom line to port operations, innovation technologies enabled by 5G transformation have shown to serve as a junction point between the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the port’s Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). In order to measure economic, social and financial benefits deriving from 5G networks and digital transformation, a piloted technology model has been shaped with the final aim of designing new models of port management and operational planning, and of implementing sustainable port growth policies. Such an assessment finally represents a crucial means to enhance technological advancements on port competitiveness and efficiency, and to boost sustainability performance by supporting public policies and business decisions, finally leading to the development of the port of the future.

Abstract The fishing port as the basis for the capture fisheries sector has a very important role in the national economy. Since the inauguration in 2016 until now, Untia Makassar Fishing Port has not shown an increase in activity as expected. This research objective is to make an inventory of the regulations related to the Untia Fishery Port Management Policies and how is the implementation of the Untia Fishery Port Management Policies. This research uses a descriptive method with a qualitative approach. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling. The method of data collection is done by interview, participatory observation, documentation, and questionnaire. The results show that the Decree of the Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries of the Republic of Indonesia Number 74 / KEPMEN-KP / 2016 concerning the Management of Untia Fishery Ports has not succeeded in becoming a tool in increasing fisheries activities. Therefore, it is necessary to coordinate immediately with the Ministry of Administrative Reform - Bureaucratic Reform (Kemenpan-RB) so that the nomenclature of Untia fishery port managers can be immediately determined so that additional human resources and budgeting resources can be added. The efforts must be made so that policy implementation can be maximized in the community, namely (1) local government support for the initiation of the 30 GT ship to facilitate it to the fishery port for use and (2) local government support in the form of regulations for industrial entrepreneurs both in the ship supply industry as well as the marketing and distribution of fishery products to grow the fishery industry at the port of Untia.

Human resources or HR are needed by companies at various scales, be it a large scale or even a small scale. Makassar New Port as a modern organization that developed kept up with the times, implemented a high competency standard in every level of work unit. To analyze the compatibility analysis of human resources competencies of Makassar New Port (MNP) towards curriculum of diploma IV port and shipping management department. The research was held in Politeknik Ilmu Pelayaran Makassar. The aim of this research to map the competencies of Makassar New Port Human Resources related to Diploma IV Port and Shipping Management Department Curriculums. The main informants in this research were the MNP staff who were assigned as many as 7 informants. The subjects in this study were 44 Makassar New Port employees, but only 7 were the research subjects. The location of this research was carried out at the Makassar New Port Office. The research was conducted in the Even semester in Academic Year 2019/2020, which was from February to October 2020. Data were collected by using in-depth interviews and observation methods the result of the research mentioned that there are 3 variables should be developed to be qualified as Makassar New Port Human Resources Competence which are; Port Business, Port and Logistics, and Port Management. The research results were a consensus obtained from all respondents regarding the variables that affect port competence. This research examines Indonesia's weaknesses towards the world's maritime axis and how to overcome them. The problem under study is the Indonesian government's policy in realizing its aspirations to become a world maritime axis, weaknesses in realizing these ideals, and how to overcome them. This research is a descriptive study with a qualitative approach. The data used are secondary. Data collection is done by collecting books, journals, and references from various online media. The research found that the policies carried out by the government to realize the goal of becoming a world maritime axis, are: 1) Publishing a maritime legal conduct; 2) Describe the 5 pillars of the vision for the world's maritime axis; 3) Forming a Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs; 4) Increase the export of marine commodities. Indonesia's weaknesses in realizing these ideals are overcome by the 5 pillars of the vision for the world's maritime axis, namely: 1) Decreasing maritime culture, overcome by the first pillar; 2) The absence of a common understanding of the concept of a maritime country, is overcome by the second pillar; 3) Lack of maritime human resources, overcome by the first pillar; 4) There are still overlapping regulations in the maritime sector, resolved by the fourth pillar; 5) The port management is still not well managed by the third pillar; 6) The lack of the role of sea transportation is overcome by the third pillar; 7) The small contribution of the marine fisheries sector is overcome by the second pillar; The existence of thuggery and port mafia is overcome by the fifth pillar.

Ports are important hubs that have positive impacts on the regions they serve, but they also pose some challenges that need to be addressed. Many ports around the world have aligned their development strategies with the concept of green growth; however, the green and efficient performance of ports does not only depend on the port management itself; some elements need to be negotiated and approved by local and national governments. One of such elements is road port access. We investigated the impact of port gate location and port gate procedures on port’s performance by examining the case of the Adriatic port of Koper, the only Slovenian international cargo port. We found that significant external costs are incurred due to a non-optimized situation caused by the lack of coordination and cooperation on all levels, although the port of Koper is one of European core ports. Further, delayed digitalization of port gate procedures caused by port management adds to degradation of port city relations.

Abstract. The action of propeller-induced jets on the seabed of ports can cause erosion and the deposition of sediment around the port basin, potentially significantly impacting the bottom topography over the medium and long term. If such dynamics are constantly repeated for long periods, a drastic reduction in ships' clearance can result through accretion, or the stability and duration of structures can be threatened through erosion. These sediment-related processes present port management authorities with problems, both in terms of navigational safety and the optimization of management and maintenance activities of the port's bottom and infrastructure. In this study, which is based on integrated numerical modeling, we examine the hydrodynamics and the related bottom sediment erosion and accumulation patterns induced by the action of vessel propellers in the passenger port of Genoa, Italy. The proposed new methodology offers a state-of-the-art science-based tool that can be used to optimize and efficiently plan port management and seabed maintenance.
