Abstract Online social networking platforms allow people to freely express their ideas, opinions, and emotions negatively or positively. Previous studies have examined user’s sentiments on these platforms to study their behaviour in different contexts and purposes. The mechanism of collecting public opinion information has attracted researchers to automatically classify the polarity of public opinions based on the use of concise language in messages, such as tweets, by analyzing social media data. In this paper, we extend the preceding work [1], by proposing an unsupervised approach to automatically detect extreme opinions/posts in social networks. We have evaluated our performance on five different social network and media datasets. In this work, we use the semi-supervised approach BERT to check the accuracy of our classified dataset. The latter task shows that, in these datasets, posts that were previously classified as negative or positive are, in fact, extremely negative or positive in many cases.

Especially during drought events, it is important that water gets properly allocated and is not misused or wasted. For an effective drought management, it is thus of utmost importance to raise the awareness of water managers as well as the general public about the drought’s severity. In this paper, we provide two possible sources of information that can be used to communicate about drought events. To illustrate our approach, we make use of drought events that were identified in preceding work as connected components in space and time through the use of operators from the field of mathematical morphology and summarized in terms of characteristics such as affected area, duration and intensity. We demonstrate how these drought characteristics can be used to query for historical drought events that are most similar to an ongoing event, such that lessons learnt from the management of past events can be incorporated in the management of the ongoing event. Further, we also demonstrate how a probabilistic model describing the dependence structure between the drought characteristics is identified and how such model can serve as a basis to estimate the severity of the event. Both approaches provide information that can be used to communicate to laymen about the severity of the ongoing drought, which will help them to anticipate the future.

AbstractIn this study, the behavior of a microchannel flow is examined. The fluid is considered to be a nanofluid, which moves between two parallel flat plates in the presence of an electrical double layer. The Buongiorno nanofluid is considered with body force. In this study, the unphysical supposition presented in the preceding work to the discontinuity of the flow fled where the electrostatic potential in the central of the canal must be equal to zero is removed. The incorrect supposition that the pressure constant is preserved, which is considered a known form, is corrected. The current fresh model equation is modified by using dimensionless parameters to convert partial differential equations into ordinary differential equations. The transformed nonlinear equations are solved by the homotopy analysis method. The physical parameters, magnetic parameters, Eckert number, Lewis number, Brownian motion parameters, thermophoresis parameters, and Prandtl number are analyzed. The influence of both the viscous and Joule dissipation in the presence of magnetohydrodynamic effect is examined.

Network protection, an essential interest has migrated within this area particularly with the development of hacking, the strategies, as well as the penetration of the most effective blanketed networks. It can be stated that all the methods and protocols applied failed to forestall the intruder’s attacks, consequently many researches grew to favor quantum mechanics over create non-intrusive methods. Many scientists and researchers have introduced other cryptographic subjects in quantum computing which is known as quantum key distribution protocol. In this paper, which is an extension to our preceding work (Mustafa et al., 2019), the simulation of the overall performance of SARG04 protocol had been examined in opposition to the most time-honored attack: Photon-number splitting (PNS) assault in the quantum channel. The data received showed results that obtained high resistance against PNS attack, due to the method that was used in the sifting stage.

AbstractThe isoconversional (or model-free) methods cannot provide meaningful kinetic description for most samples in thermal analysis. Nevertheless, they can serve as empirical models. A usable empirical model should describe well the observed data and should be suitable for predictions, too. For this purpose, the functions in the isoconversional kinetic equation were parametrized, and the parameters were determined by the method of least squares. This procedure ensures that the data calculated from the model would be close to the experimental data. The present work supplemented a preceding work of Várhegyi (Energy and Fuels 33:2348–2358, 2019) by further considerations and by various evaluations on the TGA curves of a wood sample. The prediction capabilities of the models were also tested. It was found that an evaluation based on three experiments with constant heating rates could predict well two further experiments with stepwise temperature programs. Furthermore, a modification of the model was proposed and examined. The aim of this modification was to improve the fit quality without increasing the number of parameters in the least-squares procedure.

This chapter argues that, despite the differences of form, the seven orations included in this collection constituted a unitary collection and, for this reason, one should consider their interrelations as well as their distinctive features. Furthermore, the seven orations establish a tight connection with the preceding work, the Foundations, with which they share several themes. Admittedly, far from being a text focused on kingship, the Orations are rather geared towards the presentation of an individual’s acquisition of moral values. The correlation between ethics, the rulers’ virtues and rhetorical skills is framed in a tradition that originated in the writings of the rhetoricians of Hellenistic and Graeco-Roman times. Yet in Manuel’s case, through the development of the idea of a special kind of imperial behaviour, the presentation of moral virtues reflects, on the one hand, such a tradition and, on the other hand, an insight that could only have come with practical experience. Drawing on multiple philosophical sources, this formulation of imperial behaviour was based on the ideal of tolerance, with strong bonds of friendship and values such as education and moderate enjoyment of life.

Purpose. We report an uncommon case of immunoglobulin gamma 4-related ophthalmic disease (IgG4-ROD) presenting as meningitis and panuveitis. Observations. A 35-year-old male with no prior ophthalmic history presented with headaches, altered mental status, and fever of unknown origin. A lumbar puncture (LP) revealed an elevated white count with lymphocytic predominance, confirming a suspected meningitis. After an extensive work-up, he was discharged on oral acyclovir to cover for presumed aseptic meningitis. The patient initially improved, however, bilateral eye pain, redness, and photophobia 2 weeks after discharge prompted his first visit to the ophthalmology clinic. Exam at that time was consistent with bilateral anterior uveitis for which he was given topical prednisolone and cyclopentolate. In addition to the preceding work-up, quantitative immunoglobulin serology including IgG4 levels was added. At follow-up, he was found to have increased ocular inflammation with vitreitis, nerve head edema, and subclinical macular thickening. Visual acuity (VA) had decreased in both eyes. Serology titers for IgG had resulted in a significant elevation in IgG subclass 4 (IgG4). Optical coherence tomography (OCT) and fundus fluorescein angiography (FFA) confirmed posterior retinal involvement. The patient was diagnosed with presumed bilateral panuveitis secondary to IgG4-ROD. Conclusions and Importance. IgG4-RD can be a serious condition that requires careful consideration and intuition to diagnose. This report serves to encourage ophthalmologists to consider IgG4-ROD in cases of idiopathic systemic inflammation with ophthalmic involvement.

This paper discusses Rancière’s recent work The Lost Thread: The Democracy of Modern Fiction. Similar to his directly preceding work, Aisthesis, The Lost Thread explores the transformation of the very paradigm of fiction itself with the advent of modern realism in its break with the conventions of belles lettres. For Rancière, the specific logic of modern fiction, its democracy, consists in a logic of (im)purity that generates what he calls effects of equality. The specificity of modern fiction thus yields a rather different idea of the politics of fiction than that conveyed by modernist readings and epitomized by Roland Barthes’ notion of the reality effect. This paper discusses the logic of this change in fiction implicit within Rancière’s account, a logic the author refers to as ‘creative destruction’ in contradistinction to modernist dialectics; second, it explores the kind of subject implied by this fiction – where subject is understood both as the kind of limit situation that this fiction recounts and the constitution of its characters. Third, the author briefly suggests that Rancière’s reading of the logic of the event, in particular in Joseph Conrad’s Lord Jim, can be seen as sketching an answer to why it is that the key question of ‘how are we to live?’ only ever comes after the event.
