Aim — to study the frequency and structure of specific complications in surgeries for autoimmune thyroiditis AIT associated with benign nodules in comparison with operations for multinodular non-toxic goiter. Materials and methods. The analysis of complications of thyroidectomy was performed for 237 patients operated for AIT (main group) and 261 for multinodular non-toxic goiter (control group). The evaluation was done to assess thesurgeryduration, the frequency of laryngeal paresis, postoperative hypoparathyroidism, thoracic duct damage, intense neck hematomas, dysphagia and changes in voice tone. Results. More complications were found in patients of the main group — 33 against 20 in the control group. The structure and number of individual complications from their total number in both groups was the same, and the frequency of the number of operated patients was significantly higher in the group of patients with AIT. The duration of thyroidectomy in AIT was (174.3 ± 4.2) min and depended on the severity of inflammatory changes in the gland and tissues around it, and in cases of multinodular non-toxic goiter — (127.0 ± 4.7) min (p < 0.01). Conclusions. Thyroidectomy for AIT compared to multinodular non-toxic goiter is accompanied by a greater number of complications and duration of surgery. There is an increased risk of developing hypoparathyroidism, laryngeal paresis, thoracic duct injuries, severe neck hematomas, dysphagia and changes in voice tone.

At first it was the coronavirus briefings held at the White House and lead by the U.S. president Donald Trump. In these briefings and with the help of certain intrinsic and known-to-the public characteristics of the president’s personality such as the love of power, authority and control, appreciation of dictatorship, arrogance, and self-aggrandizing, the media managed to portray the president as a person with modest or even poor communication skills, a bigot, a self-congratulatory, a liar, a self-opinionated, and a self-righteous. Second, it was George Floyd’s murder as a result of the brutality of four white police officers in Minneapolis, Minnesota which overtook the nationwide pandemic, the coronavirus. Floyd’s grievous death sparked waves of protests in major cities nationwide, and instead of standing up for his citizen’s rights, Trump turned a blind eye to this heinous crime. Furthermore, Trump failed verbally and nonverbally to address the grieving nation and to show empathy and solidarity with the victim and his family. His words did not match the grave and horrific situation, and his voice tone and his facial expressions failed to pacify the irate public. The media outlets were there to expose Trump’s deadly mishaps and glitches not just to the American public but to the whole world. With the help of the media, American people were able to detect the fallacy of his arguments and claims. These outlets were happy to dedicate hundreds of hours of live coverage in its quest to pave the way for Trump’s demise and fall.

Artificial intelligence within the area of computer vision is creating a replacement genre in detection industry. Here, AI is using the power of computer vision in creating advanced educational software LMS that detects student emotions during online classes, interviews, and judges their understanding and concentration level. It also generates automated content in step with their needs. This LMS cannot only judge audio, video, and image of a student; it also judges the voice tone. Through this judgement, the AI model understands how much a student is learning, effectivity, intellect, and drawbacks. In this chapter, the power of deep learning models VGG Net and Alex Net in LMS computer vision are used. This LMS architecture will be able to work like a virtual teacher that will be taking a parental guide to students.

There are five expression in the society of Pontianak Malay Kalimantan Barat in expressing their anger, that are: nyumpah, nyeranah, beleter, pendek tongkeng, and ngambol. These anger expressions are different in their daily application. Ngambol is ironic in anger expression character since it is not express direct anger but agreeing their speaking partner with special facial expression and voice tone to show disagreement of the spoken statement. Ngambol becomes the focus of this research. Qualitatively, ngambol is described and become the aim of the research. 100 respondents selected randomly from the total population of the society of Pontianak Malay Kalimantan Barat to be the sample of the research.  This study applied descriptive statistics. The data collected and disseminated through questionnaires and analyzed through tabulation of statistical product and service solution (SPSS) based on the Likert scale which are: strongly disagree (1), disagree (2), doubtful (3), agree (4), and strongly agree (5). Based on the data, it could be concluded that 36% society of Pontianak Malay respondents agree even strongly agree to express their anger through ngambol in their closest social environment.

The study discusses spoken literary language and the impact of voice on speech realization. The voice consists of a sound made by a human being using the vocal folds for talking, singing, laughing, crying, screaming… The human voice is specifically the part of human sound production in which the vocal folds (vocal cords) are the primary sound source. Our voice is our instrument and identity card. How does the voice (voice tone) affect others and how do they respond, positively or negatively? How important is voice (voice tone) in communication process? The study presents how certain individuals perceive voice. The results of the research on the relationships between the spoken word, excellent speaker, voice and description / definition / identification of specific voices done by experts in the field of speech and voice as well as non-professionals are presented. The study encompasses two focus groups. One consists of amateurs (non-specialists in the field of speech or voice who have no knowledge in this field) and the other consists of professionals who work with speech or language or voice. The questions were intensified from general to specific, directly related to the topic. The purpose of such a method of questioning was to create relaxed atmosphere, promote discussion, allow participants to interact, complement, and to set up self-listening and additional comments.

Abstract Oratory or the art of public speaking with eloquence has been cultivated since ancient times. However, the fear of speaking in public -a disproportionate reaction to the threatening situation of facing an audience- affects a very important part of the population. This work arises from the need to help alleviate this fear through a tool where to train the ability of public speaking. To this purpose, we built a virtual reality system that offers the speaker a safe environment to practice presentations. Since the audience is the only way to receive feedback when giving a speech, our system offer s a virtual audience that reacts and gives real-time feedback based on the emotions conveyed by three parameters: voice tone, speech content and speaker’s gaze. In this paper, we detail the modelling of a behavioural-realistic audience just focusing on the speakers’ voice tone: 1) by presenting an algorithm that controls the audience’ reactions based on the emotions beamed by the speaker, and 2) by carrying out an experiment comparing the reactions generated by the agents with those of a real audience to the same speech, in order to refine the given algorithm. In this experiment, the audience subjects are asked to fill a questionnaire - level of engagement and perceived emotions - for a speech performed by professional actors representing different emotions. Afterwards, we compared the reactions of said audience with the ones generated by our algorithm, and used the results to improve it.

Communication is immensely dynamic in the 21st century as evidenced by the fast-changing communication mechanisms. However, global trends show that oral communication skills are still considered among the most desired skills that employers are seeking in the workplace. Thus, there is a need to explore the manifestation of the socio-cultural components of the personnel, namely: behavior, attitude, and etiquette in their oral communication practices particularly the informal manner, as the components bear a significance when they engage in such form of communication interaction.  Direct observations of thirty-eight episodes of the teaching and non-teaching interactions of the personnel were noted followed by a Focus Group Discussion with seven selected personnel that validated the results of the observed manifestation of their  socio-cultural components and likewise explored other underlying factors that shaped and developed their socio-cultural components. Behavior (facial expressions) and etiquette (voice tone) components mainly dominated in their interactions, yet the attitude component is also significant to them. The manifestation of these components is situational given their respective upbringing during childhood as a major perceived aspect that established these components. A desirable manifestation of these components is encouraged when engaging in informal oral communication interactions so to become a competent communicator in the workplace.
