Overweight and underweight adolescents have an increased risk of psychological problems and reduced quality of life. We used a network analysis approach on a variety of psychopathology and well-being variables to identify central factors in these populations. The network analysis was conducted on data of 344 overweight adolescents (>90th BMI-percentile) and 423 underweight adolescents (<10th BMI-percentile) drawn from a large community sample (10–19 years) including behavioral and emotional problems (Youth Self-Report), eating disorder risk (SCOFF) and well-being variables (KIDSCREEN). Additionally, psychopathology and well-being scores of overweight and underweight individuals were compared with 1.560 normal weight adolescents. Compared to their normal weight peers, overweight adolescents showed elevated psychopathology and eating disorder risk as well as reduced well-being. Underweight adolescents reported increased levels of internalizing problems but no increased eating disorder risk or reduced well-being. The network analysis revealed that anxious/depressed mood and attention problems were the most central and interconnected nodes for both overweight and underweight subsamples. Among underweight individuals, social problems and socially withdrawn behavior additionally functioned as a bridge between other nodes in the network. The results support psychological interventions focusing on improving mood, coping with negative emotions and tackling inner tension.

Adolescence is peak height velocity that affect changes in body composition, rapidgrowth on weight, bone mass, pysical activity and nutritional status. Overweight and lack ofphysical activity are risk factors of hyertension in adolescents. Overweight adolescents havea 4,85 times risk of developig hypertension compared to adolescents with normal nutritionalstatus. Lack of physical activity has 7,86 times the risk of developing hypertension thanadolescents with active physical activity. Hypertension in adolescents increase risk ofmorbidity and mortality in adults. This study aim to determine the correlation between nutritional status and physicalactivity with hypertension in adolescents. A quantitative research with cross sectional designwas developed.  Respondents in this study were 75  college students. Data analysis usingSpearman’s Correlation test. Proportion of obesity and overweight was 20%.  Physical activity of the respondentsbelongs to light category. The incidence of hypertension I 14,67% and hypertension II2,67%. Results shows that there was correlation between nutritional status and physicalactivity with hypertension in adolescents.Keywords :  nutritional status, physical activity, hypertension, adolescents

The adolescence period is characterized by a considerable risk to weight gain due to the high consumption of food rich in sugar. A promising strategy to reduce sugar consumption may lie in exploiting the ability of our senses to interact to each other (cross-modal interactions). The aims were to investigate the cross-modal interactions and gustatory function in normal-weight and overweight adolescents. Fifty adolescents (25 overweight and 25 normal-weight) were involved. Subjects rated liking and attribute intensity in pudding samples obtained by adding vanilla aroma (0.1%; 0.3%), butter aroma (0.05%; 0.1%) or a thickener agent (1%; 1.5%) to a base formulation. The gustatory function was also measured through the “taste strips” methodology. Overweight adolescents were found to have a significantly (p < 0.001) worse ability to correctly identify all tastes. Cross-modal interactions occurred differently according to their body mass index, with a significant increase (p < 0.05) in sensory desirable characteristics (e.g., sweet and creaminess) due to aroma addition, especially in overweight subjects. Furthermore, butter aroma significantly increased hedonic responses only in overweight subjects. Tricking our senses in the way of perceiving sensory attributes could be a promising strategy to develop innovative food formulations with a reduced sugar amount, which will lead to a potential decrease in caloric intake and help to tackle the obesity epidemic.

(1) Background: In the present pilot study, we examined the response of cortisol to a digital version of the Trier Social Stress Test (TSST) and corresponding eating preferences in non-overweight and overweight adolescents. (2) Methods: The experimental study group included 35 adolescents aged 15.7 ± 0.5 years (16 boys and 19 girls). The participants were split into two groups: non-overweight (N = 24) and overweight (N = 11), according to the Body Mass Index (BMI). We induced acute stress in all participants, using a digital version of the Trier Social Stress Test (TSST), with three different digital tasks. We measured salivary cortisol before the test (T0), during the stress induction by digital tasks (T5, T10, T15), and 25 min after the stress test (T40). The Health Behavior in School-Aged Children Questionnaire (HBSC) was administered to assess the influence of stress on eating behavior: the consumption of fruit, vegetables, sweets, and soft drinks and the frequency of snacks. (3) Results: Among the entire group of adolescents, we observed a significant difference between the sexes in terms of cortisol response, girls being predominantly hyperreactive (13 girls compared to 5 boys, p = 0.03). In overweight adolescents, the cortisol reactivity was lower in boys and higher in girls (p = 0.05). The overweight hyperreactive adolescents, as compared to the hyporeactive ones, had a higher frequency of daily consumption of sweets (25% vs. 0%) and soft drink (25% vs. 0). (4) Conclusions: The individual patterns of cortisol reactivity to laboratory-induced stress could be associated with an increased risk of unhealthy eating behavior in adolescents.

Abstract Background Obesity and overweight are a worldwide public health problem, and physical exercise is an important intervention to reduce these high rates. Supervised exercise programs have significant impacts on the prevalence of obesity in adolescentes and the nurses should guide on the importance of physical activity. Purpose To evaluate the effect of an exercise program on the profile of obesity and overweight in adolescents. Methods Quasi-experimental study based on TREND guidelines. Performed with 72 adolescents, who underwent a physical activity program supervised (aerobic and resistance physical exercises) by a health professional 5 times a week, each session lasting from 50 to 60 minutes. The population consisted of all obese and overweight adolescents, aged between 14 and 18 years, who were authorized by the doctor to perform physical activity, and who did not have physical mobility problems and/or cognitive alterations. Adolescents with an anthropometric index greater than or equal to the z +1 score, and waist circumference greater than the 90th percentile, and/or skinfolds greater than the 90th percentile were considered obese or overweight. Adolescents who did not perform outcome assessments before and after the intervention, or those who did not attend physical exercise sessions for a week were excluded. The primary outcomes were anthropometric measurements (body mass index, tricipital and subscapular skinfolds, estimated body fat percentage, brachial perimeter, arm fat area, waist and neck circumference measurement), while secondary outcomes were lipid profile, capillary glycemia and blood pressure. Outcomes were assessed before and the day after the program ended. The effect of the program in relation to the outcomes was analyzed using appropriate statistical tests, with p&lt;0.05 being considered significant. Results A total 520 adolescents were assessed for eligibility; of these, 129 were considered eligible and 124 agreed to participate in the study, but 20 gave up participating. Therefore, 104 started the intervention and 32 adolescents were excluded over time, as they did not show up for a week in the exercise program, which totaled 72 adolescents for analysis. A significant improvement was observed in all primary outcomes analyzed (p&lt;0.001) and in most secondary outcomes (capillary blood glucose, p=0.0001; triglycerides, p=0.0001; systolic blood pressure, p=0.005) after 12 weeks of the supervised physical exercise program. Conclusion The supervised physical exercise program showed a significant reduction in anthropometric measurements, as well as in glycemic, triglyceride and blood pressure levels. To prove the effect of physical exercise on adolescents may impact public and educational policy measures and the incorporation of this practice in adolescents' school life. This study aims to determine the effect of skipping combination with body weight training on cardiorespiratory endurance and BMI as an effort to prevent Covid 19 for overweight adolescents. This research is an experimental research. In this study, treatment was given in the form of skipping exercise combined with body weight training for 8 weeks with a frequency of 3 times / week, an intensity of 60%-70% MHR with a duration of 30 minutes. The population in this study were teenagers. Sampling was done by purposive sampling on adolescents aged between 17-21 years and overweight. Instrument used to measure VO2 max with MFT (multistage fitness test) and measurement of height and weight to determine BMI. The data analysis technique used prerequisite test and paired t test. Based on the results of the cardiorespiratory endurance data analysis, the t-count value was 10.495 with a significance value of 0.000, it can be concluded that there is a significant effect of skipping combination with body weight training on cardiorespiratory endurance in overweight adolescents. The mean value of the cardiorespiratory endurance pretest was 34.92 and the posttest average increased to 40.05. While the results of the analysis on BMI data obtained a t-count value of 15.293 with a significance value of 0.000, it can be concluded that there is a significant effect of skipping combination with body weight training on BMI in overweight adolescents. The mean value of the BMI pretest was 26.60 and the posttest average BMI decreased to 22.19. So it can be concluded that skipping exercises combined with body weight training can increase cardiorespiratory endurance and reduce BMI as an effort to prevent Covid 19 for overweight adolescents.

Background: Research on the effects of interval training on lipid profile and hematological indices is limited. Objectives: Therefore, the purpose of this study was to determine the effects of eight weeks of high-intensity interval training (HIIT) and moderate-intensity continuous training (MICT) on aerobic performance, body composition, lipid profile, and hematological indices in overweight adolescents. Methods: Thirty overweight boys (13 - 16 years) participated in this study and were randomly divided into three groups, including the control (n = 10), HIIT (n = 10), and MICT (n = 10) groups. HIIT training (4 × 4-minute) was performed with an intensity of 95 - 85% of maximum heart rate, and MICT training (35-minute) was performed with an intensity of 70 - 60% of maximum heart rate, three sessions per week for eight weeks. Beep test and ELISA technique were used to measure aerobic performance, lipid profile, and hematological indices, respectively. The two-way repeated-measures ANOVA was used to determine the differences with a confidence interval of 95% (α = 0.05). Results: The results showed that except for the variables of glucose, triglyceride (TG), and low-density lipoprotein (LDL), all other variables in the HIIT group had a significant change compared to the pre-test (P < 0.05). Also, the results showed that there was a significant difference between the HIIT and control groups in fat percentage, VO2Max, high-density lipoprotein (HDL), iron, and hemoglobin value (P < 0.05). Conclusions: The results suggest that HIIT training can be as effective as continuous strategy training to reduce the risk factors associated with cardiovascular disease in overweight adolescents.
