In this paper, there are two contributions: The first contribution is to design a robust cascade P-PI controller to control the speed and position of the permanent magnet DC motor (PMDC). The second contribution is to use three methods to tuning the parameter values for this cascade controller by making a comparison between them to obtain the best results to ensure accurate tracking trajectory on the axis to reach the desired position. These methods are the classical method (CM) and it requires some assumptions, the genetic algorithm (GA), and the particle swarm optimization algorithm (PSO). The simulation results show the system becomes unstable after applying the load when using the classical method because it assumes cancellation of the load effect. Also, an overshoot of about 3.763% is observed, and a deviation from the desired position of about 12.03 degrees is observed when using the GA algorithm, while no deviation or overshoot is observed when using the PSO algorithm. Therefore, the PSO algorithm has superiority as compared to the other two methods in improving the performance of the PMDC motor by extracting the best parameters for the cascade P-PI controller to reach the desired position at a regular speed.

With the rapid development of the economy and society, geological disasters such as landslides, collapses, and mudslides have shown an intensifying trend, seriously endangering the safety of people’s lives and property, and affecting the sustainable development of the economy and society. Aiming at the problems of merging different data layers and determining the weighting of data stacking in the statistical analysis model based on GIS technology in the evaluation of the risk of geological disasters, this study proposes a logistic regression model combined with the RBFNN-GA algorithm, that is, the determination of the occurrence of geological disasters. The fusion coefficient (CF value) with the RBFNN-GA algorithm model, and with the help of SPSS statistical analysis software, solves the problem of factor selection, heterogeneous data merging, and weighting of each data layer in the risk assessment. In the experimental stage, this study adopts the method of geological hazard certainty coefficients to carry out the sensitivity analysis of the geological hazards in the study area. Using homogeneous grid division, the spatial quantitative evaluation of the risk of geological disasters is realized, and at the same time, the results of the spatial quantitative evaluation of the risk of geological disasters are tested according to the latest landslide points in the region. The existing classification mainly depends on the acquisition of land use/cover information or the processing method of the acquired information, but the existing information acquisition will be limited by time, space, and spectral resolution. The results show that the number of landslide points per unit area in the extremely unstable zone and the unstable zone is 0.0395 points/km2 and 0.0251 points/km2, respectively, which is much higher than 0.0038 points/km2 in the stable zone, indicating the evaluation results and actual landslide conditions.

This paper presents the meta-heuristic and conventional optimizations techniques for the grid connected photovoltaic solar system. The perturb and observe (P&O) and particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithms are proposed to track the maximum power point (MPP) of the photovoltaic solar system (PVSS). The regularization of the current supplied into the grid is ensured by the proportional integral (PI) corrector whose parameters are generated by the genetic algorithm (GA). The results of these two MPPT methods are compared and showed that the PSO is more efficient than the P&O. The use of GA algorithm to determine PI parameters allowed to obtain 0.89% of total distortion harmonic (THD).

This paper proposes a green logistics location-routing optimization problem based on improved genetic algorithm (GA) from the perspective of low-carbon and environmental protection. First, considering the cost factor, time window, deterioration rate of agricultural products, inventory and distribution capacity, carbon trading mechanism, and other factors, and with the total cost minimization as the optimization goal, a low-carbon and environmental protection logistics location-routing optimization model is constructed. Then, the adaptive operator and cataclysm operator are introduced to improve the GA algorithm, which can adjust crossover and mutation probability according to the needs, reducing the influence of parameters and running time. Furthermore, the improved GA algorithm is used to solve the location-routing optimization problem in green logistics, so as to obtain a low-carbon, economical, and efficient distribution path. Finally, perform experimental analysis of the proposed method using the relevant data of U company. The results show that the total distribution cost is 6771.3 yuan, which meets the design requirements of economy and environmental protection.

It is of great value to research the problem of forest pest and disease control. Currently, helicopters play an important role in dealing with this problem. However, the spraying route planning still depends on the pilot’s driving experience, which leads to low efficiency and less accurate coverage. For this reason, this paper attempts to use intelligent algorithms to plan the pesticide spraying route for helicopters. When the helicopter is conducting spraying operations in multiple forest areas, the routes are divided into two parts: pesticide spraying routes for individual forest areas and dispatch routes between multiple forest areas. First, the shorter spraying route with fewer turnarounds for individual forest areas was determined. Then a two-layer intelligent algorithm, a combination of a genetic algorithm (GA) and ant colony optimization algorithm (ACO), was designed to determine the dispatch route between multiple forest areas, which is referred to as GAACO-GA. The performance was evaluated in self-created multiple forest areas and compared with other two-layer intelligent algorithms. The results show that the GAACO-GA algorithm found the shortest dispatch route (5032.75 m), which was 5.60%, 5.45%, 6.54%, and 4.07% shorter than that of GA-GA algorithm, simulated annealing-GA (SA-GA) algorithm, ACO-GA algorithm, and particle swarm optimization-GA (PSO-GA) algorithm, respectively. A spraying experiment with a helicopter was conducted near Pigzui Mountain, Huai’an City, Jiangsu Province, China. It was found that the flight path obtained from the proposed algorithm was 5.43% shorter than that derived from a manual planning method. The dispatch route length was reduced by 16.93%, the number of turnarounds was reduced by 11 times, and the redundant coverage was reduced by 17.87%. Moreover, helicopter fuel consumption and pesticide consumption decreased by 10.56% and 5.43%, respectively. The proposed algorithm can shorten the application route, reduce the number of turnarounds and the cost of spraying operations, and has the potential for use in spraying operations in smart forestry and agriculture.

Increased frequency of disasters keeps reminding us of the importance of effective resource distribution in postdisaster. To reduce the suffering of victims, this paper focuses on how to establish an effective emergency logistics system. We first propose a multiobjective optimization model in which the location and allocation decisions are made for a three-level logistics network. Three objectives, deprivation costs, unsatisfied demand costs, and logistics cost, are adopted in the proposed optimization model. Several cardinality and flow balance constraints are considered simultaneously. Then, we design a novel effective IFA-GA algorithm by combining the firefly algorithm and genetic algorithm to solve this complex model effectively. Furthermore, three schemes are proposed to improve the effectiveness of the IFA-GA algorithm. Finally, the numerical results provide several insights on the theory and practice of relief distribution, which also illustrate the validity of the proposed solution algorithm.

This paper used an artificial jellyfish search (AJFS) optimizer suitable for selective harmonic elimination-based modulation for multilevel inverter (MLI) voltage control application. The main objective was to remove the undesired lower-order harmonics in the output voltage waveform of an MLI. This algorithm was motivated by the behavior of jellyfish in the ocean. Jellyfish have the ability to find the global best position where a large quantity of nutritious food is available. The paper applied AJFS algorithm on five, seven, and nine levels of CHB-MLI. The optimum switching angle was calculated for the entire modulation range for the desired lower-order harmonics elimination. The problem formulated to achieve the objective was solved in a MATLAB environment. The total harmonic distortion (THD) values of five-, seven-, and nine-level inverters for various modulation indexes were computed using AJFS and compared with the powerful differential evolution (DE) algorithm. The comparison of THD results clearly demonstrated superior THD in the output of CHB-MLI of the AJFS algorithm over DE and GA algorithm for low and medium values of modulation index. The experimental results further validated the better performance of the AJFS algorithm.

Purpose More and more work zone projects come with the needs of new construction and regular maintenance-related investments in transportation. Work zone projects can have many significant impacts socially, economically and environmentally. Minimizing the total impacts of work zone projects by optimizing relevant schedules is extremely important. This study aims to analyze the impacts of scheduling long-term work zone activities. Design/methodology/approach Optimal scheduling of the starting dates of each work zone project is determined by developing and solving using a bi-level genetic algorithm (GA)–based optimization model. The upper level sub-model is to minimize the total travel delay caused by work zone projects over the entire planning horizon, whereas the lower level sub-model is a traffic assignment problem under user equilibrium condition with elastic demand. Findings Sioux Falls network is used to develop and test the proposed GA-based model. The average and minimum total travel delays (TTDs) over generations of the proposed GA algorithm decrease very rapidly during the first 20 generations of the GA algorithm; after the 20th generations, the solutions gradually level off with a certain level of variations in the average TTD, showing the capability of the proposed method of solving the multiple work zone starting date optimization problem. Originality/value The proposed model can effectively identify the near-optimal solution to the long-term work zone scheduling problem with elastic demand. Sensitivity analysis of the impact of the elastic demand parameter is also conducted to show the importance of considering the impact of elastic demand parameter.

Flavonoids in Rosa sterilis were studied. The flavonoids in Rosa sterilis were extracted by ultrasonic method, and the extraction conditions were modeled and optimized by response the surface methodology and the artificial intelligence method. The results show that the ultrasonic method can effectively extract total flavonoids, and the extraction rate is close to the prediction value of ANN-GA algorithm, which proves the rationality of the model. The order of the effects of the parameters on the experiment was material liquid ratio > extraction power > extraction time > ethanol concentration. In addition, the scavenging effects of flavonoids on DPPH, O2−· and ·OH were also determined, and these indicated that flavonoids have strong antioxidant activities. The kinetics of the extraction process was studied by using the data of the extraction process, and it was found that the extraction process conformed to Fick’s first law.
