This paper argues that sociological analysis of social movements has undertheorized non/anti-state social movements. It is argued that an alternative modality of resistance to that of movements seeking reform through the state or the capture of state power through revolution is to exit the world-system and set up parallel structures of governance and production. A conjunctural inter-regional comparison is taken up in order to map the inter-scalar and historical causal factors that led to exit-with-autonomy in Syrian Kurdistan (Rojava) and autonomy-without-exit in Iraqi Kurdistan (Kurdish Regional Government). The paper shows that in order to exit the world-system social movement actors in Rojava used strategic loyalty bargains and political voice at specific historical conjunctures in order to maintain their movement and seize on non-state political opportunities. These same non-state political opportunities were not available for the social movement actors hoping to exit the world-system in the Kurdish Regional Government.

Spirometry is considered the gold standard method for monitoring lung function of patients with cystic fibrosis (CF) but it requires patients’ cooperation and therefore it is not useful for the majority of preschool-aged children. Oscillometry is an alternative modality for lung function monitoring that requires minimal cooperation and can be applied in children as young as 3 years of age. Furthermore, it generates lesser aerosol compared to spirometry, an issue that is of considerable importance in the COVID-19 era. The aim of this review was to present the existing clinical data regarding the application of oscillometry in children and adolescents with CF. The method seems to have acceptable feasibility and repeatability. However, there is conflicting data regarding the correlation of oscillometry values with the clinical symptoms of CF patients either in clinically stable or in exacerbation periods. Furthermore, it is not clear to what extent oscillometry measurements correlate with the spirometry indices. Based on current evidence, spirometry cannot be substituted by oscillometry in the monitoring of the respiratory status of children and adolescents with CF.

The study aims to know the profile of the respondents in terms of age, gender, educational attainment, and monthly family average income of parents and to identify how the support is extended by the parents on their special need children toward their studies along the area of becoming a strong advocate, getting acquainted with school regulation, learning to access additional services, developing relationship with children module tutors, and future of special need children. The descriptive quantitative research design is employed in the study. The subjects of the study are the parents of the special needs children who are enrolled in the different Higher Education Institutions (HEI) both in private and government entities in the GCC country. Twenty (20) parents are topped in the utilization of the study. A non-probability sampling technique is utilized in the study which is purposive sampling because it is appropriate in the development of the study. The results show that there is no significant relationship between the profile of the respondents and how support is extended by the parents of the special need children toward their studies.

Breast cancer has become a menacing form of cancer among women accounting for 11.6% of total deaths of 9.6 million due to all types of cancer every year all over the world. Early detection increases chances of survival and reduces the cost of treatment as well. Screening modalities such as mammography or thermography are used to detect cancer early; thus, several lives can be saved with timely treatment. But, there are interpretational failures on the part of the radiologists to read the mammograms or thermograms and also there are interobservational and intraobservational differences between them. So, the degree of variations among the different radiologists in the interpretation of results is very high resulting in false positives and false negatives. The double reading can reduce the human errors involved in the interpretation of mammograms. But, the limited number of medical professionals in developing or underdeveloped countries puts a limitation on this remedial way. So, a computer-aided system (CAD) is proposed to detect the benign cases from the abnormal cases that can result in automatic detection of breast cancer or can provide a double reading in the case of nonavailability of the trained medical professionals in developing economies. The generally accepted screening modality is mammography for the early detection of cancer. But thermography has been tried for early detection of breast cancer in recent times. The high metabolic activity of the cancer cells results in an early change in the temperature profile of the region. This shows asymmetry between normal and cancerous breast which can be detected using different techniques. Thus, this work is focussed on the use of thermography in the early detection of breast cancer. An experimental study is conducted to find the results of classification accuracy to compare the efficacy of thermography and mammography in classifying the normal from abnormal ones and further abnormal ones into benign and malignant cases. Thermography is found to have classification accuracy almost at par with mammography for classifying the cancerous breasts from healthy ones with classification accuracies of thermography and mammography being 96.57% and 98.11%, respectively. Thermography is found to have much better accuracy in identifying benign cases from the malignant ones with the classification accuracy of 92.70% as compared to 82.05% with mammography. This will result in the early detection of cancer. The advantage of being portable and inexpensive makes thermography an attractive modality to be used in economically backward rural areas where mammography is not practically possible.

: Epilepsy is one of the most common disorders of the nervous system and affects people of all ages, races, and ethnic backgrounds, and seen more commonly in children. Atypical febrile seizure with Status epilepticus is a disorder known for significant morbidity and mortality. Despite newer antiepileptic drugs, 30 % of subjects are refractory to the conventional treatment with a risk of recurrence and neuro-developmental disorder. This paper presents one such case of a child handled successfully by Yoga Prana Vidya (YPV) Energy healing complementarily to conventional therapy. This is a prospective case study of a 2-month-old infant, an emergency case of atypical febrile seizures with status epilepticus, where YPV Healing intervention was done from the beginning while admitting doctors had given a guarded prognosis. This case study reports the normal physical, mental & psychological development of the subject following YPV Healing with 3-year follow up, and the subject was observed to be normal without any recurrence of the disease or neuro-developmental abnormality.: Although the use of Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) has been evaluated globally, there are few studies available on the use of Energy healing in various ailments. YPV Healing has been emerging as an effective modality of treatment for various physical, psychological ailments without any side effects. It can be effectively used from distance even without physically examining the subject. It has been used as a complementary or alternative modality of treatment in some severe life-threatening emergency conditions, and further studies may be conducted with appropriate sample sizes.

Background: Hypereosinophilic syndrome is a rare disease that increases the number of circulating eosinophils in the body. It has many complications, including peripheral polyneuropathy. Peripheral polyneuropathy often does not respond well to conventional therapies. Transcutaneous neurostimulatory treatment, also known as scrambler therapy, is an alternative modality for the treatment of chronic retractable pain. Case: A 47-year-old woman presented with complaints of bilateral calf pain. She had been under treatment for peripheral polyneuropathy induced by hypereosinophilic syndrome for 7 years. Pharmacologic treatment did not affect the patient’s symptoms. Conclusions: Transcutaneous neurostimulatory treatment was administered to the patient. It was effective on her symptoms, and the effect of pain alleviation continued for 3 months.

Background: Treatment of intracranial germ cell tumors (GCTs) involves radiation therapy to the whole ventricle or the whole neuroaxis, but late sequelae are a concern. Therefore, an alternative modality is needed to reduce the overreliance on radiation therapy. Intrathecal methotrexate (IT-MTX) was examined as a partial alternative to radiotherapy. Procedure: Low-risk (LR) patients (germinoma) were treated with four cycles of cisplatin, etoposide, and IT-MTX, while intermediate-risk (IR) (human chorionic gonadotropin [HCG]-producing germinoma) and high-risk (HR) (non-germinomatous GCT) patients were treated with five cycles of cisplatin, etoposide, cyclophosphamide, and IT-MTX. Local irradiation of 24 Gy was performed for the LR and IR patients, while irradiation with 51.2 Gy was performed for the HR cases. For patients with multifocal diseases and/or tumors extending to the 3rd ventricle, whole ventricle irradiation was performed. Results: A total of 57 patients were enrolled, of which three withdrew consent. Thus, 54 patients were included in the outcome analysis. The 5-year progression-free survival and overall survival were 92.0% (standard error 4.4%) and 100%, respectively, for 28 LR and 10 IR patients (median follow-up: 63 months), and 86.7% (8.8%) and 93.3% (6.4%) (median follow-up: 67 months), respectively, for 16 HR patients. The major toxicity was hematological, and most patients experienced grade 4. Conclusion: The toxicity of chemotherapy containing IT-MTX was limited, and the results suggested that this regimen could reduce the need for radiotherapy.
