The article is devoted to the little-studied activity of the famous Moscow pastor Archpriest Vsevolod Shpiller (1902-1984) in Moscow theological schools in 1950-1951. Returning home from Bulgaria in early 1950, Archpriest Vsevolod was warmly received by the hierarchy of the Russian Church. Immediately after his return, he was appointed a teacher in Moscow theological schools and abbot of the Ilyinsky Church in Zagorsk (Sergiev Posad). And after a short time, he was approved as an inspector of the Moscow theological academy. Despite the great trust of Patriarch Alexy I (Simansky) and the president of the Educational Committee, Metropolitan Grigory (Chukov), Archpriest Vsevolod was unable to build normal, working relations with the leadership and teaching staff of the Academy, which naturally led to his resignation from the post of inspector, and subsequently to dismissal from the Academy. The article will attempt to restore the picture of Archpriest V. Shpiller's activity on the basis of archival data and memoirs of contemporaries, to clarify some facts from his biography of this period.

The article analyzes the activities of Confucius Institutes as a subject of modern foreign cultural policy of China. Methods of increasing influence at the international level are very diverse, ranging from China's participation in international projects (cultural and industrial exhibitions, Olympiads, scientific forums, etc.) organized on its territory to the organization of the media space that gradually covers the whole world. To implement the state policy of "soft power", the Chinese government approved the development of Chinese educational and cultural centers around the world. These institutions bear the name of the greatest Chinese philosopher, the teacher of the nation, Confucius. In China, his name is associated with culture and education, as the philosopher himself attached great importance to tradition and education. The Confucius Institutes network provides opportunities for personal and business contacts of the international community with representatives of Chinese science, culture, business, and politics. Such meetings increase the interest in learning the language, raising it to a more pragmatic level, associated with obtaining new opportunities. As a rule, the departments of the Confucius Institute are opened on the basis of Oriental Studies faculties in the leading national universities of a particular country. Thanks to their educational and cultural projects, the Confucius Institutes arouse not only great interest and desire to join the values of Chinese culture, but also enjoy great trust among all those who love China or plan to connect their lives with the prospects that this country opens for friends, opening up new prospects for student and professor mobility.

Today, with easy access to information, people are aware of the health benefits of pulses and their significant role in sustainable consumption. Despite this, the consumption of pulses still remains low in many developed and developing countries. The authors of the study attempted to fill the gaps in knowledge about determinants that influence the consumption of pulses. The study was conducted to identify the motives and barriers which, according to a consumer, influence the level of consumption of pulses. An attempt was made to determine to what extent a consumer is influenced by culinary trends (using the multiple linear regression equation). The survey was conducted on a sample of 1067 Polish respondents. The sample was representative and selected to reflect the social demographic distribution of the respondents. In the research, descriptive statistics were used, as well as a t-test, linear regression statistics, and discriminant function analysis. Pulses are more often considered by women to be healthy and nutritious products as well as a good alternative to meat products. The price of pulses products is very important. Men also consider those qualities to be encouraging to consume pulses, but to a lesser extent than women. The lack of knowledge and skills to prepare tasty meals from pulses is one of the most important barriers which, both in the case of women and men, prevents consumers from eating pulses more often. Identified types of diets of the respondents in the research sample showed differences in the regularity of consumption of different selected pulse products. The obtained results indicated that Polish consumers are influenced by other cuisines of the world in their preferences. The most influential cuisines were the Middle Eastern and Mediterranean, with a variety of dishes that are prepared based on pulse products. It should be emphasized that to increase the consumption of pulses, it is necessary to continue educating society through various channels, e.g., culinary, health, information programs, or by inviting celebrities who enjoy the great trust of the society to take part in the advertisement.

This article explores the problem of innate, natural talent vs acquired skill, knowledge, and virtue in dissertations from Uppsala University around 1680. These texts have never before been studied. It discusses questions such as: how did Swedish academics of the period conceive the relationship between ingenium (innate potential) and (acquired) virtue or knowledge? Which teaching methods did they advocate? How do the texts relate to developments in seventeenth century society? The study uses a combination of contextual analysis and a ‘history of concepts’ approach to answer these questions. The analysis reveals that the Swedish dissertations respond to contemporary debates (involving well-known authorities such as Vives, Huarte, Erasmus, and Comenius) and that they were affected by the immediate context: the growth of the early modern state and the social mobility which accompanied that growth. Education is described in Renaissance humanist terms, with a clear affinity to moral philosophical concepts such as virtue and habituation. The learning process described is analogous to the acquisition of moral virtue and education itself is to a large extent legitimated with reference to moral socialization. The educational ideas put forward balance discipline and playfulness, and represent a relatively democratic view of the distribution of human capabilities, showing a great trust in the potential of education. However, there is also a distinct stress on medical explanations of differences in individual talent.
