The adaptation of cities to climate change is becoming an increasingly pressing need. The choice of optimal adaptation solutions for cities is difficult as it requires an individual approach. One way of avoiding poor decisions is to use the experience of cities which have already implemented adaptation solutions. The aim of the work was to identify measures conducted as part of implementation of the municipal plan of adaptation to climate change for Poznań and to evaluate if the conducted measures complied with the adopted strategic goals specific for the research area. It was found that Poznań undertakes measures on each of the four specified strategic goals, but to a different degree. Hard measures and measures of the types: mitigation, physical infrastructure, and green infrastructure prevail. Most measures are performed in the sectors of transport and biodiversity. In addition, single cases of actions which have a negative impact on the natural environment have been identified.

The opportunistic human pathogen Acinetobacter baumannii has become one of the leading causes of nosocomial infections around the world due to the increasing prevalence of multidrug-resistant strains and their optimal adaptation to clinical environments and the human host. Recently, it was found that CsrA, a global mRNA binding posttranscriptional regulator, plays a role in osmotic stress adaptation, virulence, and growth on amino acids of A. baumannii AB09-003 and 17961.

This chapter presents an overview of the current situation of Roma ethnic minority groups. The authors provide a brief historical outline as well as a summary of major sociodemographic, cultural, and contextual characteristics of Roma. They compare these characteristics across different countries hosting Roma populations and discuss their potential importance for children and youth within broader social and cultural contexts. Drawing on currently available empirical work with these populations, the authors address the question of whether traditional developmental frameworks can apply to oppressed minority settings. They also examine how unique cultural-specific and universal features of Roma can inform the understanding of optimal adaptation in adolescence. The authors conclude by emphasizing the relevance of recognizing that oppressed minority groups such as Roma have potentials and strengths on which we need to build, rather than assume that their communities are only characterized by adversity and deficits.

ABSTRACT The triple threat is a challenge that must be faced in Indonesia. More and more the number of elderly continues to increase. As you age, changes occur due to the aging process that causes physical and psychosocial problems. one of the psychosocial problems in the elderly is low self-esteem. If that doesn't work, the elderly will repair, attract, challenge, and even escape. Therefore, it is necessary to maintain the health of the elderly at an optimal level of health. The goal is to increase the ability of the elderly in the contexts of psychological loss, behavior, and optimal adaptation. Activity methods of doing healthy gymnastics and group activity therapy. The results of the activity showed that overall the elderly looked bright and happy.  This activity can increase enthusiasm and create togetherness among the elderly in a nursing home.  Keywords: Group activity therapy, healthy gymnastics, dementia, elderly.

The text is devoted to the problem of social inequalities created by the fact of unequal participation in language resources. "Gutenberg Galaxy" created social inequalities by setting a caesura between the reader and the author. Scientism limits the ability of lay people to understand specialized scientific knowledge. The participation in the language of actors and spectator of social life also has a different character. Assuming that the human anthropological challenge is the striving for optimal adaptation (D. Hoffman), social communication and adaptation take place in the space of language. As components of language, metaphors enable such an individual meeting. Mid-range metaphors play a special role here.

In the presented work the FPGA based run-time reconfigurable platform with temporal partitioning of hardware resources is proposed. This platform is based on the Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) device that can be reconfigured "on-fly" to provide the optimal adaptation of a processing architecture to the algorithm and data structure by utilization of developed mechanisms of temporal partitioning of computational / logic resources. It was shown that the proposed approach allows reaching very high cost-effectiveness of the computing platform oriented on processing of framed data-streams. On the other hand, the hardware programming and compilation processes could be simplified by utilization of library of precompiled Virtual Hardware Components stored in the on-board FLASH memory. Paper presents theoretical proof of the proposed approach by analytical comparison of the performance that could be reached on the conventional processors and FPGA platform with Temporal Partitioning Mechanism (TPM) of hardware resources. The implementation of the proposed TPM on the basis of Xilinx Spartan-3 and Xilinx Virtex II FPGA devices is described. Experimental results gained on the prototype of the FPGA based platform with TPM are discussed and analyzed. Keywords: reconfigurable computing, data-stream processing, FPGA, run-time reconfiguration, temporal partitioning.

AbstractThe replication machinery of most RNA viruses lacks proofreading mechanisms. As a result, RNA virus populations harbor a large amount of genetic diversity that confers them the ability to rapidly adapt to changes in their environment. In this work, we investigate whether further increasing the initial population diversity of a model RNA virus can improve adaptation to a single selection pressure, thermal inactivation. For this, we experimentally increased the diversity of coxsackievirus B3 (CVB3) populations across the capsid region. We then compared the ability of these high diversity CVB3 populations to achieve resistance to thermal inactivation relative to standard CVB3 populations in an experimental evolution setting. We find that viral populations with high diversity are better able to achieve resistance to thermal inactivation at both the temperature employed during experimental evolution as well as at a more extreme temperature. Moreover, we identify mutations in the CVB3 capsid that confer resistance to thermal inactivation, finding significant mutational epistasis. Our results indicate that even naturally diverse RNA virus populations can benefit from experimental augmentation of population diversity for optimal adaptation and support the use of such viral populations in directed evolution efforts that aim to select viruses with desired characteristics.
