This paper determines the impact of modelling technology integration for of out-of-school (OST) learning on academic achievement in primary schools. The research was conducted in Arusha Region, specifically in Meru District. The paper adopted the experimental design, involving experimental and control groups. Each of the two groups comprised three (3) schools, making a total of six (6) schools. The experiment was conducted using Digital Video Disks (DVDs), mobile phones, notebooks and home assignment booklets. The tools were further supplemented by a list of perceived best practices, and examination papers. The findings reveal a statistically significant difference in mean scores between the control and experimental groups as confirmed by 95% confidence level whereby, F (1, 180) = 28.63, p=0. Based on the findings, null hypothesis was rejected, leading to the conclusion that the proposed model for OST technology integration is attributed to significant improvements in academic achievement for primary school OST learners. The implication of these findings is for researchers, and other educational stakeholders, including the government to invest in devising contextually relevant model, and mobilizing parents, teachers and learners with a view to hastening technology integration in order to improve academic achievements for primary school pupils. There is also a need for studies that further explore technology integration opportunities, and associated challenges in a bid to addressing poor academic performance among primary school pupils.

The Impact

Electronic portfolios (e-portfolios) have a positive impact on the learning process in a broad range of educational sectors and on learners of all ages. Yet because most e-portfolio-related studies are about their implementation in higher education, this type of research is less usual in the early childhood context, and there is no available research for Greek schools. This study aims to investigate the impact of e-portfolios on learning in a Greek primary school and to provide a resource regarding the educational benefits of e-portfolio in primary education. To do that, it employs the qualitative naturalistic method to collect data, along with mixed methods which were used to achieve triangulation and strengthen confidence in the outcomes. Participants in the research were fourteen 8-year-old pupils, and one of the researchers was their regular teacher. Data evaluation revealed that the e-portfolio added value in pupils’ learning, acted as a medium to involve parents, promoted pupils’ self-esteem, and was acknowledged as a valuable assessment tool and a challenge for the school community. Based on the experience of the e-portfolio implementation, the authors provide some suggestions that would possibly help researchers and primary school teachers adopt and develop e-portfolio systems in their particular settings.

Objective: to determine the impact of the rhythm and choreography on physical fitness of primary school pupils.Material and methods. Analysis of pedagogical and methodological literature; interviews with experts, questionnaire; surveillance; teacher testing.Research results. The influence of rhythm and choreography means the physical fitness of primary school pupils. It is shown that the use of the lessons of physical training exercises proposed rhythm and choreography contributed to a significant improvement in women flexibility and coordination hurried abilities, and the boys - flexibility

Acoustically ergonomic classrooms prevent teachers’ voice disorders and improve comprehension of learning instructions by pupils. High activity noise in the classroom, which increases voice loudness, is one of the most common complaints by teachers. The aim of the study was to find out how primary school children comprehend the concepts of noise and silence. Two hundred eighty five children representing Grade 1 to four were included in the study. Children were asked to draw how they imagine the silence and noise. Drawings were categorised in the following groups: sources of noise and silence, effects of noise and silence, noisy and silent places. Drawings imagining school environment were analysed separately. We found that primary school pupils can identify noise sources in the classroom, at home, and in environment. They can detect the impact of noise on the psycho-emotional state of the person. Children reflected a much more extensive range of noise generating activities than activities related to silence. The silence was mostly associated with sleeping and learning while noise with positive (singing, playing) and negative (screaming, fighting) actions.Not only teachers but also pupils should know about classroom acoustic ergonomics. Teachers’ education programs should provide education in ergonomics, and teachers should forward this knowledge to children.

AbstractThe benefits of taking pupils’ learning outdoors have been widely reported around the world. However, it is argued the simple act of stepping outside the classroom does not inevitably bring rewards. This study examines teachers’ perceptions of the impact of primary school pupils’ music-making in various outdoor rural locations. It analyses qualitative data from semi-structured interviews with seven teachers from six different primary school classes, who observed their classes as they took part in the music-making. The validity of the teachers’ perceptions is triangulated with evidence from semi-structured interviews with six groups of children from the six different classes. The analyses show the teachers perceived that the space, the new soundscape and the close contact with nature afforded by the different locations engendered enhanced experimentation and expressiveness. The teachers suggested that, as a result, the children became immersed in, and focussed on, their music-making. The study suggests teachers identify potential benefits for children aged 7–10 years in making music in outdoor locations. We conclude greater phenomenological, body-focussed understandings in education and an increased awareness of somaesthetic perspectives may be beneficial for teachers to explore in pupils’ music- making and in other creative areas of the curriculum.

Traditional classroom furniture dictates that children predominantly sit during class time. This study evaluated the impact of providing standing desks within a deprived UK primary school setting over 8 months using mixed-method approaches. All children within a Year 5 class (9–10-year-olds, n = 30) received an adjustable sit–stand desk, while another Year 5 class (n = 30) in a nearby school retained traditional furniture as a control classroom. At baseline, 4 months, and 8 months, activPAL monitors (PAL Technologies, Glasgow, UK) were worn for 7 days to provide time spent sitting and standing. Behavior-related mental health, musculoskeletal discomfort surveys, and a cognitive function test battery were also completed at all three timepoints. Intervention experiences from pupils and the teacher were captured using focus groups, interviews, and classroom observations. At both 4 months and 8 months, multi-level models revealed a reduction in class time sitting in the intervention group compared to the control group ((β (95%CI) 4 months −25.3% (−32.3, −18.4); 8 months −19.9% (−27.05, −12.9)). Qualitative data revealed challenges to teaching practicalities and a gradual decline in behavior-related mental health was observed (intervention vs. control: 4 months +5.31 (+2.55, +8.08); 8 months +7.92 (+5.18, +10.66)). Larger trials within similar high-priority settings are required to determine the feasibility and cost-effectiveness of providing standing desks to every child in the classroom.

<p>This research paper aimed at determining the impact of material reinforcement on primary school pupils’ cognitive and affective behaviours in the classroom situations. Two research purposes, research questions and two hypotheses guided the study. Expose-factor research design was adopted. The sample for the study was 557 pupils. Questionnaire was used in data collection. Mean standard deviation and t-test were applied in answering the research questions while t-test was used in the analysis of the data. Results obtained indicated that material reinforcement influenced both cognitive and affective behaviours of primary school pupils significantly.</p>

IntroductionStroke is the leading cause of death and disability in China. The median time of stroke pre-hospital delay is more than 15 hours, mainly due to the lack of awareness on stroke symptoms and calling emergency services. We developed Stroke 1-2-0 recognition tool in China, by adapting Face, Arm, Speech and Time. Our preliminary findings suggested that Stroke 1-2-0 can improve public’s knowledge of the stroke symptoms, but its impact on the prehospital delay is still unclear. Furthermore, these findings were mainly obtained from Shanghai, one of the largest metropolises in China. However, more than half of population in China lives in the rural area. Given the striking disparities in socioeconomic status and quality of stroke care across the nation, a multicentre trial is warranted.Methods and analysisStroke 1-2-0 education programme will adopt a multicentre, cluster-randomised controlled design. We aimed to recruit 32 communities from 16 counties across China. Each county includes two communities having more than 100 000 residents. The two communities sampled in the same county will be randomly assigned to receive either Stroke 1-2-0 education programme or usual care. The primary objective of this study is to evaluate the impact of Stroke 1-2-0 public education programme in reducing stroke prehospital delay among adults residing in the community, compared with the usual care. The intervention will be implemented for 1 year. The primary outcomes are the symptom onset to hospital arrival time (‘onset-to-door time’, ODT) and 3-hour hospital arriving rate. We will use an intention-to-treat approach. A linear mixed model will be used to control for potential cluster effects.Ethics and disseminationThis study is approved by the Shanghai Minhang District Central Hospital Institutional Review Board (Shanghai, China). The findings will be disseminated via peer-reviewed publications and conference presentations.Trial registration numberChiCTR2000040782.
