There are many cases of email abuse that have the potential to harm others. This email abuse is commonly known as spam, which contains advertisements, phishing scams, and even malware. This study purpose to know the classification of email spam with ham using the KNN method as an effort to reduce the amount of spam. KNN can classify spam or ham in an email by checking it using a different K value approach. The results of the classification evaluation using confusion matrix resulted in the KNN method with a value of K = 1 having the highest accuracy value of 91.4%. From the results of the study, it is known that the optimization of the K value in KNN using frequency distribution clustering can produce high accuracy of 100%, while k-means clustering produces an accuracy of 99%. So based on the results of the existing accuracy values, the frequency distribution clustering and k-means clustering can be used to optimize the K-optimal value of the KNN in the classification of existing spam emails.

: Absence seizure is a type of brain disorder in which subject get into sudden lapses in attention. Which means sudden change in brain stimulation. Most of this type of disorder is widely found in children’s (5-18 years). These Electroencephalogram (EEG) signals are captured with long term monitoring system and are analyzed individually. In this paper, a Convolutional Neural Network to extract single channel EEG seizure features like Power, log sum of wavelet transform, cross correlation, and mean phase variance of each frame in a windows are extracted after pre-processing and classify them into normal or absence seizure class, is proposed as an empowerment of monitoring system by automatic detection of absence seizure. The training data is collected from the normal and absence seizure subjects in the form of Electroencephalogram. The objective is to perform automatic detection of absence seizure using single channel electroencephalogram signal as input. Here the data is used to train the proposed Convolutional Neural Network to extract and classify absence seizure. The Convolutional Neural Network consist of three layers 1] convolutional layer – which extract the features in the form of vector 2] Pooling layer – the dimensionality of output from convolutional layer is reduced and 3] Fully connected layer–the activation function called soft-max is used to find the probability distribution of output class. This paper goes through the automatic detection of absence seizure in detail and provide the comparative analysis of classification between Support Vector Machine and Convolutional Neural Network. The proposed approach outperforms the performance of Support Vector Machine by 80% in automatic detection of absence seizure and validated using confusion matrix.

Information technology (IT) industry in India has been facing a systemic issue of high attrition in the past few years, resulting in monetary and knowledge-based loses to the companies. The aim of this research is to develop a model to predict employee attrition and provide the organizations opportunities to address any issue and improve retention. Predictive model was developed based on supervised machine learning algorithm, support vector machine (SVM). Archival employee data (consisting of 22 input features) were collected from Human Resource databases of three IT companies in India, including their employment status (response variable) at the time of collection. Accuracy results from the confusion matrix for the SVM model showed that the model has an accuracy of 85 per cent. Also, results show that the model performs better in predicting who will leave the firm as compared to predicting who will not leave the company.

The squash function in capsule networks (CapsNets) dynamic routing is less capable of performing discrimination of non-informative capsules which leads to abnormal activation value distribution of capsules. In this paper, we propose vertical squash (VSquash) to improve the original squash by preventing the activation values of capsules in the primary capsule layer to shrink non-informative capsules, promote discriminative capsules and avoid high information sensitivity. Furthermore, a new neural network, (i) skip-connected convolutional capsule (S-CCCapsule), (ii) Integrated skip-connected convolutional capsules (ISCC) and (iii) Ensemble skip-connected convolutional capsules (ESCC) based on CapsNets are presented where the VSquash is applied in the dynamic routing. In order to achieve uniform distribution of coupling coefficient of probabilities between capsules, we use the Sigmoid function rather than Softmax function. Experiments on Guangzhou Women and Children’s Medical Center (GWCMC), Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) and Mendeley CXR Pneumonia datasets were performed to validate the effectiveness of our proposed methods. We found that our proposed methods produce better accuracy compared to other methods based on model evaluation metrics such as confusion matrix, sensitivity, specificity and Area under the curve (AUC). Our method for pneumonia detection performs better than practicing radiologists. It minimizes human error and reduces diagnosis time.

Speech recognition consists of converting input sound into a sequence of phonemes, then finding text for the input using language models. Therefore, phoneme classification performance is a critical factor for the successful implementation of a speech recognition system. However, correctly distinguishing phonemes with similar characteristics is still a challenging problem even for state-of-the-art classification methods, and the classification errors are hard to be recovered in the subsequent language processing steps. This paper proposes a hierarchical phoneme clustering method to exploit more suitable recognition models to different phonemes. The phonemes of the TIMIT database are carefully analyzed using a confusion matrix from a baseline speech recognition model. Using automatic phoneme clustering results, a set of phoneme classification models optimized for the generated phoneme groups is constructed and integrated into a hierarchical phoneme classification method. According to the results of a number of phoneme classification experiments, the proposed hierarchical phoneme group models improved performance over the baseline by 3%, 2.1%, 6.0%, and 2.2% for fricative, affricate, stop, and nasal sounds, respectively. The average accuracy was 69.5% and 71.7% for the baseline and proposed hierarchical models, showing a 2.2% overall improvement.

Sensor-based human activity recognition (S-HAR) has become an important and high-impact topic of research within human-centered computing. In the last decade, successful applications of S-HAR have been presented through fruitful academic research and industrial applications, including for healthcare monitoring, smart home controlling, and daily sport tracking. However, the growing requirements of many current applications for recognizing complex human activities (CHA) have begun to attract the attention of the HAR research field when compared with simple human activities (SHA). S-HAR has shown that deep learning (DL), a type of machine learning based on complicated artificial neural networks, has a significant degree of recognition efficiency. Convolutional neural networks (CNNs) and recurrent neural networks (RNNs) are two different types of DL methods that have been successfully applied to the S-HAR challenge in recent years. In this paper, we focused on four RNN-based DL models (LSTMs, BiLSTMs, GRUs, and BiGRUs) that performed complex activity recognition tasks. The efficiency of four hybrid DL models that combine convolutional layers with the efficient RNN-based models was also studied. Experimental studies on the UTwente dataset demonstrated that the suggested hybrid RNN-based models achieved a high level of recognition performance along with a variety of performance indicators, including accuracy, F1-score, and confusion matrix. The experimental results show that the hybrid DL model called CNN-BiGRU outperformed the other DL models with a high accuracy of 98.89% when using only complex activity data. Moreover, the CNN-BiGRU model also achieved the highest recognition performance in other scenarios (99.44% by using only simple activity data and 98.78% with a combination of simple and complex activities).

With economic growth, automobiles have become an irreplaceable means of transportation and travel. Tires are important parts of automobiles, and their wear causes a large number of traffic accidents. Therefore, predicting tire life has become one of the key factors determining vehicle safety. This paper presents a tire life prediction method based on image processing and machine learning. We first build an original image database as the initial sample. Since there are usually only a few sample image libraries in engineering practice, we propose a new image feature extraction and expression method that shows excellent performance for a small sample database. We extract the texture features of the tire image by using the gray-gradient co-occurrence matrix (GGCM) and the Gauss-Markov random field (GMRF), and classify the extracted features by using the K-nearest neighbor (KNN) classifier. We then conduct experiments and predict the wear life of automobile tires. The experimental results are estimated by using the mean average precision (MAP) and confusion matrix as evaluation criteria. Finally, we verify the effectiveness and accuracy of the proposed method for predicting tire life. The obtained results are expected to be used for real-time prediction of tire life, thereby reducing tire-related traffic accidents.

This study explores the classification potential of a multispectral classification model for farmland with planting structures of different complexity. Unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) remote sensing technology is used to obtain multispectral images of three study areas with low-, medium-, and high-complexity planting structures, containing three, five, and eight types of crops, respectively. The feature subsets of three study areas are selected by recursive feature elimination (RFE). Object-oriented random forest (OB-RF) and object-oriented support vector machine (OB-SVM) classification models are established for the three study areas. After training the models with the feature subsets, the classification results are evaluated using a confusion matrix. The OB-RF and OB-SVM models’ classification accuracies are 97.09% and 99.13%, respectively, for the low-complexity planting structure. The equivalent values are 92.61% and 99.08% for the medium-complexity planting structure and 88.99% and 97.21% for the high-complexity planting structure. For farmland with fragmentary plots and a high-complexity planting structure, as the planting structure complexity changed from low to high, both models’ overall accuracy levels decreased. The overall accuracy of the OB-RF model decreased by 8.1%, and that of the OB-SVM model only decreased by 1.92%. OB-SVM achieves an overall classification accuracy of 97.21%, and a single-crop extraction accuracy of at least 85.65%. Therefore, UAV multispectral remote sensing can be used for classification applications in highly complex planting structures.
