One of plants used by Indonesian people as a traditional medicine is saga plant (Abrus precatorius L.). This plant has medicinal properties as medication for thrush, cough and laryngitis. Chemical constituents contained in sage leaves which work as antibacterial are flavonoid and saponin. This study aims to determine the optimal concentration of saga leaves extract which can be formulated in a gel dosage form with qualified physical evaluation and has antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus. Saga leaves extract is prepared by maceration method using ethanol 70% as solvent, and then the extract obtained is preliminarily tested to see its antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus with agar diffusion method. Gel formulation for thrush is made with dispersion method in three formulas with variants of active substance concentration that is FI (1%), FII (3%) and FIII (5%). Gel preparation antibacterial activity test is conducted with agar diffusion method as a plate cylinder. Based on this research, it was found that the extract of saga leaves which is positively made is efficacious as antibacterial and can be formulated into a gel preparation for thrush with optimal concentration in F III (5%), this is indicated by widest diameter of the inhibition area against Staphylococus aureus bacteria

Nerium indicum is an ornamental plant that is widely distributed in tropical and subtropical regions wordwide. It has toxic and medicinal properties which is closely related to the bioactive ingredients contained in Nerium indicum. In our research, the leaves of Nerium indicum was used as raw materials to study the chemical constituents and their effects. The chemical constituents of the leaves were analyzed by FT-IR and GC-MS with alcohol, benzene and acetone as organic solvents. A total of 73 compounds were obtained by acetone organic solvent, 25 compounds were extracted from benzene and 146 compounds were obtained from alcohol. Rich bioactive and bioenergy components were found in all three kinds of extract, suggesting that Nerium indicum leaves are of great significance for the diverse resourcing of bio-utilization including biomedicine, bioenergy, aroma, food additives.

The plant science that studies the historical and current uses of plants is called ethnobotany. Spices and herbs have since medieval times been categorized as having medicinal properties. India is a land of spices, and several spices have been grown in the country. Buchanania lanzan Spreng, commonly known as char, achar, and chironji, is one among these spices. It has been referred to as one having immense value and medicinal use. The chapter discusses the cultivation, uses, chemical constituents, and therapeutic activities of Buchanania lanzan Spreng and emphasizes the need for and importance of pharmacognostic study.

Ethnobotany gives the basic idea about the medicinal properties of plants. Identification of active compounds of the medicinal plants and their standardization is essential for the production of new drugs. In the present work, different parts of the five medicinal plants (Curcuma caesia, Costus speciosus, Drymaria cordata, Leea macrophylla, Plumbago zeylanica) were washed, air dried and crushed. Three different extracts of each powdered material were prepared and standard phytochemical analysis procedure was followed for the analysis of physicochemical properties of plants and the identification of active chemical constituents. Among 5 plants, the highest moisture content (14.83%) was found in Plumbago zeylanica, higher total ash (9.22%) and acid insoluble ash (4.43%) were observed in Cucurma caesia. Phytochemical analysis revealed the presence of 12 varieties of bioactive chemicals in the 5 different plants. The plants of the area have great diversity of phytochemicals of numerous medicinal properties. In conclusions, these five important medicinal plants could be useful for the people of the locality to cure several diseases as well as to generate the source of income. BIBECHANA 17 (2020) 67-74

 Objective: The main objective of review is an effort to give detailed information on Valeriana jatamansi and its multiple medicinal properties. Methods: As per the literature, the plant V. jatamansi is a perennial herb and found at subtemperate Himalayan regions of the Kumaon and Garhwal. The plant most popularly known as “Valerian.” The plant belongs to the family Valerianaceae. The roots and rhizomes of the plants are traditionally used to treat ulcers, jaundice, dry cough, seminal weakness, skin diseases, leprosy, and for sleep enhancement due to the presence of a variety of different chemical constituents such as sesquiterpenes, coumarins, iridoids, lignanoids, alkaloids, and flavonoids. From literature, the reported methods performed for different pharmacological activities have been thoroughly discussed and complied. Results: Most of the studies compiled from literature shown that V. jatamansi possess antimicrobial, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, cytotoxic, anxiolytic, and neuroprotective activities. Conclusion: The review reveals that continuous research on this plant is needed to know the exact molecular mechanism and further elaborative studies can lead to develop safe therapeutic use in modern medicine.

Plants play a wide role in our ecosystem due to their enormous medicinal properties and presence of diversified chemical constituents that are known to be highly beneficial to mankind to a large extent. The current review focusses on the detailed description, phytochemistry, bioactive components, ethnobotanical survey and the important pharmacological applications of the medicinal plant Lawsonia inermis L.It is commonly referred to as “Henna or Mehndi” and is a widely used plantknown for its coloring property and medicinal applications. It has wide distribution in both tropical as well as subtropical regions and has been extensively utilized by mankind for over 9,000 years. Its leaves, flowers, roots, seeds and stem bark are been utilized in the form of herbal medicine to treat a number of ailments such as diabetes, ulcer, rheumatoid arthritis, cardiac disease, leucorrhoea, leprosy, fever etc.. The plant has also been reported to possess antimicrobial, antioxidant, hepatoprotective, hypoglycemic, anticancer, anti-inflammatory, antiparasitic, anti-dermatophytic and tuberculostatic properties due to the presence of bioactive compounds such as alkaloids, terpenoids, phenols, tannins, quinones, flavanoids, coumarins, carbohydrates, proteins and fatty acids etc.. The need for medicinal plants are now been rapidly increasing due to their low toxic nature and high pharmacological properties hence the present review is compiled to give a detailed insight in to the therapeutic potential of the important medicinal plant Lawsonia inermis L.

Introduction: Gynura procumbens (Lour.) Merr. (Family: Asteraceae) is mainly popular in South-East Asian countries for its traditional medicinal properties. It is usually used as a traditional medicine for the treatment of eruptive fevers, rash, kidney disease, migraines, constipation, hypertension, diabetes mellitus, and cancer. It is commonly used as a traditional medicine in Vietnam for the treatment of many diseases. Methods: The leaves and trunks of G. procumbens were collected, macerated with methanol. The extracts from MeOH-soluble extract were processed by the column chromatographic technique to give pure compounds and the nuclear magnetic resonance methods were applied to determine their chemical structures. The inhibitory activities of these extracts against α-glucosidase were conducted and compared with acarbose. Results: Seven organic compounds were isolated and determined the structures, including syringic acid (1), quercetin (2), N,N-dimethylanthranilic acid (3), dehydrovomifoliol (4), β-sitosterol 3-O-β-D-glucopyranoside (5), schottenol (6), montanic acid (7). The inhibition of α-glucosidase test results the IC50 values of the four extracts which were lower than those of acarbose. Conclusion: Seven pure compounds were identified from the leaves and trunks of G. procumbens, including two compounds being isolated from G. procumbens for the first time. The test results showed that the the parts of G. procumbens were active as α-glucosidase inhibitor, which would be useful to support the treatment for diabetes.

Hydnocarpus alpina WIGHT. is a evergreen forest plant. It is an endemic plant to western ghats of India. Several local names are available based on distribution among the state in india that is Torathi (kanada), Maravetti (Malayalam), attuchankalai (tamil), kastel (hindi). This tree has very appreciated value in the aspect of medicine. It has anti-larvicidal, anti-feedant, anti-microbial and etc. It has the medicinal properties due to the presence of its significant chemical constituents. In this paper revealed that the IR spectrum and chemical constituents which are present in different solvents (chloroform, pet.ether, ethanol, water).

<p><em>Gmelina arborea </em>(<em>G. arborea</em>) is a bio-prospective plant belonging to family verbenaceae. It is widely used for it’s medicinal properties from ancient times. The present paper comprehensively reviewed the traditional uses, medicinal properties and chemical constituents isolated from <em>G. arborea</em> based on literature reported as well as critical analysis of the research. The present article is aimed to provide information on recent advances and new foundations and direction for further exploring <em>G. arborea </em>for its applications. Pharmacological research reviewed that <em>G. arborea </em>possess various medicinal properties and biological  activities including antidiuretic, antidiarrhoeal, antipyretic, antianalgesic, antioxidant, antidiabetic, antihelmintic, antibacterial, antifungal, cardiopotective, insecticidal, antiulcer, gastro-protective, anticancer, antihyperlipidemic and immunomodulatory activity. It has been reported for its applications in treatment of bone fracture, hypertension and regeneration of β-cells. The main chemical constituents of <em>G. arborea</em> include lignans, iridoid glycoside, flavonoids, flavons, flavone glycoside and sterols. The present review provides all the references and beneficial directions to explore further application of <em>G. arborea.</em></p>
