Abstract Purpose To evaluate whether the occurrence of chiasmal herniation coincides with visual field (VF) deterioration and to compare the course of VF defects in patients with and without radiological chiasmal herniation following treatment of pituitary adenoma. Methods This retrospective cohort study included 48 pituitary macroadenoma patients with chiasm compression, divided into three groups: Group 1 (N = 12), downward displaced optic chiasm and deteriorated VFs; Group 2 (N = 16), downward displaced optic chiasm; Group 3 (N = 20), control-group matched for tumour size and follow-up VFs, in mean deviation (dB). VFs were compared over time and a severity index, Chiasm Herniation Scale (CHS), for herniation based on radiological parameters was designed. Results After treatment, all groups showed improvement of VFs (Gr1: 2.97 dB p = 0.097, Gr2: 4.52 dB p = 0.001 and Gr3: 5.16 dB p = 0.000), followed by long-term gradual deterioration. The course of VFs between patients with and without herniation was not significantly different (p = 0.143), neither was there a difference in the course before and after herniation (p = 0.297). The median time till onset of herniation was 40 months (IQR 6 month-10 years) and did not significantly differ (p = 0.172) between the groups. There was no relation between VFs and the degree of herniation (p = 0.729). Conclusion Herniation does not appear to have clinical relevance with respect to VF outcome. The newly designed CHS is the first scoring system to quantify the severity of herniation and, in the absence of alternatives, may be useful to describe MRI findings to serve future added value in larger sized outcome studies.

Abstract Background In this research the biomechanical properties of a bone model was examined. Porcine ribs are used as experimental model. The objective of this research was to investigate and compare the biomechanical properties of the bone model before and after implant placement. Methods The bone samples were divided in three groups, Group 1 where ALL-ON-FOUR protocol was used during pre-drilling and placing the implants, Group 2 where ALL-ON-FOUR protocol was used during pre-drilling, and implants were not placed, and Group 3 consisting of intact bones served as a control group. Static and dynamic loading was applied for examining the model samples. Kruskal–Wallis statistical test and as a post-hoc test Mann–Whitney U test was performed to analyze experimental results. Results According to the results of the static loading, there was no significant difference between the implanted and original ribs, however, the toughness values of the bones decreased largely on account of predrilling the bones. The analysis of dynamic fatigue measurements by Kruskal–Wallis test showed significant differences between the intact and predrilled bones. Conclusion The pre-drilled bone was much weaker in both static and dynamic tests than the natural or implanted specimens. According to the results of the dynamic tests and after a certain loading cycle the implanted samples behaved the same way as the control samples, which suggests that implantation have stabilized the skeletal bone structure.

Purpose. We retrospectively reviewed medical records of glaucoma patients to investigate how switching medications may affect intraocular pressure (IOP) management. Three concomitant medications were changed to two medications: one combination drop and one single-action drop. Associated adverse effects were also examined.Subjects and Methods.A total of 112 patients with primary open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension were examined. All patients were concomitantly using a prostaglandin (PG) analog, aβ-blocker, and a carbonic anhydrate inhibitor (CAI). Fifty-five patients began using latanoprost (PG analog)/timolol (β-blocker) fixed-combination (LTFC) drops and a CAI (group 1), and 57 patients began using dorzolamide (CAI)/timolol fixed-combination (DTFC) drops and a PG analog (group 2). The IOP was measured every 6 months for 2 years following medication changes. Changes in visual field mean deviation (MD) and medication discontinuations were also examined.Results.There were no significant differences in IOP or MD values before and after medication changes in either group. The proportion of medication discontinuations, uncontrolled IOP, and adverse reactions was similar in both groups.Conclusion.Switching patients from multiple single-action medications to combination medications was not associated with changes in IOP, visual field testing results, or adverse event frequency.

ABSTRACT Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the antimicrobial efficiency of PDT and the effect of different irradiation durations on the antimicrobial efficiency of PDT. Materials and Methods: Sixty freshly extracted human teeth with a single root were decoronated and distributed into five groups. The control group received no treatment. Group 1 was treated with a 5% sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) solution. Groups 2, 3, and 4 were treated with methylene-blue photosensitizer and 660-nm diode laser irradiation for 1, 2, and 4 min, respectively. The root canals were instrumented and irrigated with NaOCl, ethylenediamine-tetraacetic acid, and a saline solution, followed by autoclaving. All the roots were inoculated with an Enterococcus faecalis suspension and brain heart infusion broth and stored for 21 days to allow biofilm formation. Microbiological data on microorganism load were collected before and after the disinfection procedures and analyzed with the Wilcoxon ranged test, the Kruskal-Wallis test, and the Dunn′s test. Results: The microorganism load in the control group increased. The lowest reduction in the microorganism load was observed in the 1-min irradiation group (Group 2 = 99.8%), which was very close to the results of the other experimental groups (99.9%). There were no significant differences among the groups. Conclusions: PDT is as effective as conventional 5% NaOCl irrigation with regard to antimicrobial efficiency against Enterococcus faecalis.

The aim of this trial was to assess the clinical efficacy of neural therapy (NT) when treating canine atopic dermatitis. Eighteen dogs (no control group), with at least a 12-month history of having nonseasonal atopic dermatitis, were included. No medication with either glucocorticoids or cyclosporin was allowed during the trial. One set of NT was given by injecting an intravenous dose of 0.1 mg/kg of a 0.7% procaine solution, followed by 10 to 25 intradermal injections of the same solution in a volume of 0.1–0.3 mL per site. Dogs were given 6–13 sets of NT during the therapy. The dermatological condition of each patient was evaluated before and after the treatment using two scales: the pruritus visual analogue scale (PVAS) and the canine atopic dermatitis extent and severity index (CADESI). The reduction of pruritus was statistically significant using a Wilcoxon matched-pairs signed-ranks test (P < 0.001). No adverse side effects were observed. NT seems to be an effective alternative to control signs related to canine atopic dermatitis.

Research objective - studying of features of the relation to pregnancy, the child, motherhood of women in IVF situation. Selection: 100 married pregnant women aged from 28 till 42 years (the first pregnancy of the first trimester, complications in the anamnesis isn't present) representing two groups on 50 people: 1) after artificial insemination (empirical group); 2) in a situation natural pregnancy (control group). The leading motives of pregnancy, types of the attitude towards themselves, pregnancies, to the child, people around, the prevailing installations in the sphere of the family relations, features of representation of future mothers about themselves and "the ideal parent" are defined by testing. Distinctions in all respects with women from control group are found. It is established that in vitro fertilisation the high level of readiness for motherhood according to its motivational characteristics is observed. Prevalence of constructive motives of pregnancy against concern in the health and aspirations to meet social expectations is revealed. The leading types of a gestational dominant are optimum and euphoric, the hypertrophied positive emotional background of pregnancy is observed. In the future of a bike probability the dependent relations with the child, preference of the sponsoring or authoritative style of family education. Revaluation of own parental qualities when comparing with image of ideal mother is observed. Results allow to carry women to the group of risk demanding psychological maintenance before and after the childbirth.

Background: Footwork training is important in coaching basic movements in badminton. This research aims to learn about the influence of footwork training on improving leg muscles strength. Methods: The study used a randomized pretest-posttest control group design. The participants consisted of 42 male badminton players of Universitas Pendidikan Ganesha, Bali, Indonesia, who split into two groups of footwork training (ten repetitions two sets (group 1) and five repetitions with four sets (group 2)). The coach gave the footwork exercise three times per week for 6 weeks to each group and measured the leg muscle strength using the dynamometer test. Results: The result of the within-group paired T-test before and after the training shows group 1 and group 2 (p<0.05). For group 1, the mean of leg muscle strength was 114.19±33.13 kg before the training and 183.19±33.56 kg after the training, with an increase of 60% (69 kg). On the other hand, for group 2, the mean score of leg muscle strength before the training was 113.05±31.30 kg and after the training was 141.10±34.91, with an increase of 25% (28 kg). The leg muscle strength difference between the groups before and after the training was tested using the independent T-test with a significant α=0.05. Comparing the differences of leg muscle strength for both the groups before the training was p= 0.90, and after the training was p=0.00. Conclusion: The conclusion is training badminton footwork ten repetition two sets better than five repetitions four sets to improve leg muscle strength.

The objective of the work: to study the changes of the functional activity of the endothelium and the plasma-coagulation link of hemostasis in women with chronic inflammatory processes of the internal genital organs (CIPIGO) with and without varicose veins of the small pelvis (VVSP).Materials and methods: 68 women with chronic inflammatory processes of the internal genital organs against the background of varicose veins of the small pelvis (group 1); 52 women with chronic inflammatory processes of the pelvic organs without varicose veins of the small pelvis (group 2); 30 practically healthy women (control group) were examined before and after the treatment. The age of women was between 18 and 45 years old. All the patients of the study groups received the treatment offered by us, which included a diosmine-containing phlebotropic preparation normoven, 500 mg twice a day in continuous mode and a donor of nitric oxide tivortin aspartatum, 5 ml 3 times per os for 14 days each month during six months.Determination of concentration of endothelin-1, prostacyclin was performed by immunoassay using a set of reagents from the firm “Biomediсa” (Austria); the determination of D-dimers in blood plasma was performed by latex-test of the firm “Organon-Tekhnika”.Results of workIn women with CIPIGO with and without VVSP, the increased production of endothelin-1, which has a pro-aggregate and pro-inflammatory effect, was determined. At the same time, the decrease of the synthesis of prostacyclin, which has anti-aggregant properties, was noted. In evaluating the indicators of coagulograms in patients of the studied groups, the propensity for hypercoagulation was revealed, as evidenced by an increase in the level of fibrinogen and a rise of index of the phospholipid-dependent coagulation tests. The decrease of the percentage of fibrinolytic blood activity and the increase in plasma concentration of the molecular marker of thrombophilia D-dimer can be considered as activation of intravascular coagulopathy and the presence of endothelial dysfunction. Conclusions: 1. Our studies found endothelial dysfunction and violations of the plasma-coagulation linkage of hemostasis in both studied groups. 2. After the performed treatment, the improvement of the functional activity of the endothelium and normalization of the main parameters of the plasma-coagulation linkage of hemostasis were observed.

The purpose of study was to find out the influences of two combinations of neuromuscular drills and asana practices on agility of basketball players.  To achieve the purpose of the study, thirty basket ball players with the age of 10 to 13 years from Navabisha Montessori School, Velachery, Chennai, Tamilnadu were selected as subject at random. The study was formulated as pre and post test random group design. The selected subject was divided into three equal groups. The group-1 (n=10, NMD-AP) underwent neuromuscular drills combined with asana practices. The group-2 (n=10, AP-NMD) underwent asana practices combined with neuromuscular drills and group 3 served as control group (n=10, CG). In this study, two training programme were adopted as independent variables and the agility was selected as dependent variable. It was tested by T test; scores recorded in seconds. The agility tested before and after the training period. The collected pre and post data was critically analyzed with apt statistical tool of analysis of co-variance (ANCOVA). The Scheffe’s post hoc test was used to find out pair-wise comparisons between groups. The result clearly proved that there was a significant improvement on agility in experimental groups than the control group.

Abstract The study aim was to compare the effects of a 7-week plyometric, strength and change of direction (COD) training program on basketball-specific performance measures in high-school players. Forty male players were randomly assigned to one of the four groups: plyometric (PG, n = 10), strength (SG, n = 10), COD (CODG, n = 10), and control group training (CG, n = 10). Two training sessions were performed at weekly intervals before basketball training. Performance of the counter movement jump (CMJ), Abalakov jump (ABKJ), 10 m zig-zag sprint, 20 m in line sprint (measurements at 10 and 20 m), and sit and reach flexibility test (SRFT) was assessed before and after the intervention. A 4 (group) × 2 (time) repeated measures analysis of variances (ANOVA) was conducted for each variable. Bonferroni post-hoc tests were used when the interaction was significant. Significant (all p < 0.05) time x group interaction was noted for SRFT, CMJ, ABK, sprint, and zig-zag 10 m, in favor of the experimental groups compared to the control group. However, improvements in physical fitness were similar between the three experimental groups. In conclusion, 7 weeks of specific plyometric, strength and COD training produced similar medium to large improvements in physical fitness of high-school basketball players.
