AbstractScientific reasoning encompasses individuals‘ evaluation of evidence with regard to a given hypothesis. In this study, we investigated whether preschool children are able to reason with empirical evidence in the science context of elasticity. N = 63 preschoolers were presented with tasks following the deductive reasoning paradigm and were asked to evaluate the relevance of given events (objects) with regard to a hypothesis. In a repeated measures experimental design with three groups, we tested whether different forms of scaffolding (adaptive prompts with/without modeling of advanced reasoning) would promote children’s reasoning compared to a control group without intervention. We found that adaptive prompts with modeling significantly improved children’s evaluation of irrelevant events in the posttest. Further, these children’s reasoning patterns scored significantly higher than those of the control group. Our results suggest that preschool children are able to reason with evidence if they are given adequate support. Specifically, the modeling of advanced reasoning functioned as a scaffold beyond the use of adaptive prompts in irrelevant event evaluations.

Evidence-Based Reasoning (EBR) is a framework of inquiry-based teaching for developing scientific reasoning. This research aims to analyze the effectiveness of EBR in inquiry-based Physics teaching to improve students' scientific reasoning. Applying Slovin formula for sample determination, the research involved 139 upper-secondary school students with similar prior knowledge. This research used one group pre-test post-test design with replication. The effectiveness of teaching on improving scientific reasoning was analyzed by using Paired Sample T-test. ANOVA was used to analyze the consistency of the teaching effectiveness across in test group. The findings indicated that EBR effectively improved students' scientific reasoning in inquiry-based Physics teaching based on two main grounds. On the first, the significance was ensured by N-gain category of scientific reasoning component, which proved (a) control of variables reaching high category, (b) proportional thinking at moderate category; c) probabilistic thinking reaching moderate category, (d) hypothetical-deductive reasoning attaining low category; and (e) correlational thinking achieving low category. In addition, the level of scientific reasoning has attained the experience characterized by slightly imperfect answers. Students voiced positive response to EBR, which stated that it helped them engage in scientific reasoning in Physics learning. They also voiced the general opinion on EBR and inquiry-based learning in general. Keywords: evidence-based reasoning, inquiry teaching, physics teaching, scientific reasoning.

(1) Background: Regular physical activity (PA) plays an important role during early childhood physical and psychological development. This study investigates the effects of a 9-month PA intervention on physiological characteristics and motor and cognitive skills in preschool children. (2) Methods: Preschool children (n = 132; age 4 to 7 years) attending regular preschool programs were nonrandomly assigned to PA intervention (n = 66; 60 min sessions twice per week) or a control group (n = 66; no additional organized PA program) for 9 months. Exercise training for the intervention group included various sports games, outdoor activities, martial arts, yoga, and dance. Anthropometry, motor skills (7 tests), and cognitive skills (Raven’s Colored Progressive Matrices and Cognitive Assessment System) were assessed before and after an intervention period in both groups. Data were analyzed using repeated-measures ANOVA. (3) Results: Body weight significantly increased in both groups over time. Compared to the changes observed in the control group, the intervention group significantly increased in chest circumference (p = 0.022). In contrast, the control group demonstrated an increase in waist circumference (p = 0.001), while these measures in the intervention group remained stable. Participants in the intervention group improved running speed (p = 0.016) and standing broad jump (p = 0.000). The flexibility level was maintained in the intervention group, while a significant decrease was observed in the control group (p = 0.010). Children from the intervention group demonstrated progress in the bent-arm hang test (p = 0.001), unlike the control group subjects. Varied improvements in cognitive skills were observed for different variables in both intervention and control groups, with no robust evidence for PA-intervention-related improvements. (4) Conclusions: Preschool children’s participation in a preschool PA intervention improves their motor skills.

Abstract Objectives It was known that children with attention deficit (AD) have also weakness in working memory. In our previous research we have revealed that ADHD children have deficit in visual and verbal memory in delayed recall condition in comparison to immediate condition (Kiselev, 2018). The goal of this research was to examine the hypothesis that preschool children with AD have a deficit in reproducing the Rey-Osterrieth Complex Figure in delayed recall condition. Methods The experimental group included 13 children with AD at the age of 5-6 years. The control group included 13 typically developing children. The children from groups were matched for IQ, gender and age. Children from both groups were assessed with Rey–Osterrieth complex figure test (ROCF). This test is designed to assess reproducing the complex figure in immediate and delayed recall conditions. ANOVA with repeated measures was used to reveal group differences in reproducing the figure in two conditions. Results We have not revealed significant differences between children from experimental and control group in reproducing the figure in immediate condition. However, the interaction of condition type and group was significant (p < .05). Children with AD had weakness in the accurate reproduction and placement of specific design elements of Rey-Osterieth Complex Figure in Delayed Recall condition. Conclusions In view of our previously received results in children with attention deficit, we can propose that deficit in memory in delayed recall condition can be one of the key symptoms in this disorder.

I conducted this study to investigate the effects of project-based education on children's categorization skills. I used an experimental design with the pre and posttest control group. Participants were 47 6-year-old children who attended a public preschool. Children in the experimental group completed a "Food Project", which continued for 12 weeks. The children in the control group undertook the regular preschool program. Data about the children's categorization skills were obtained by using the Categorization Test. While there was no significant difference between the experimental and control groups in the pretest, a significant difference was found in the posttest in favor of the experimental group.

Context The Fifth Edition of the National Athletic Trainers' Association Athletic Training Education Competencies includes the significant addition of competencies covering evidence-based practice (EBP). While the concept of EBP is not new, the terminology in the Competencies may be new to clinical practitioners who did not receive the same educational experiences. Objective The objective was to explore the understanding, comfort, and use related to EBP competencies by preceptors. Specifically, we explored the efficacy of an educational intervention designed to increase preceptors' understanding of, comfort with, and use of the EBP competencies. Design Participants were assigned to an experimental or control group. A pretest and posttest design was used to measure understanding, comfort, and use. An educational intervention designed to increase understanding, comfort, and use of the EBP competencies was used with the experimental group. The education intervention was a combination of presentations, student-led article reviews, and a student-led project. Setting The study was completed at a large state-affiliated Midwest university. Patients or Other Participants Nineteen preceptors from the collegiate and high school setting (12 men and 7 women, average age = 32 ± 8.3 years, average experience = 8.1 ± 8.8 years). Main Outcome Measures A survey instrument (EBP Preceptor Survey) was designed and tested for reliability (α = .979). All participants completed the EBP Preceptor Survey before and then after the intervention. Experimental preceptors completed the education intervention. Repeated-measures analysis of covariance was used to detect pretest to posttest differences at the P ≤ .01 significance level. Results Statistically significant results indicate that after the intervention the experimental preceptors increased understanding for 4 of the 14 competencies, comfort for 9 of the 14 competencies, and use for 1 of the 14 competencies. Conclusions A focused education intervention may increase understanding and comfort but might not increase use of EBP concepts.

Objective: The aim of this study is to test the effects of a customized intervention on distress among caregivers of persons with dementia (PWD) using a quasi-experimental design. Method: Fifty-one spouse caregivers in the experimental group and 51 in the control group participated in the study. The effects of the intervention were examined by comparing caregivers’ responses with questionnaires at pre-intervention baseline (T0) and immediately after intervention (T1). Differences were quantified using repeated-measures ANOVA. Results: The analyses indicated a stabilizing effect of the intervention on caregivers’ perceptions of PWD’s daily functioning, self-esteem related to caregiving, quality of family support, and feeling of distress. Linear increases were observed regarding sense of preparedness and impact on daily routine, while no differences (interaction and linear effects) were observed for degree of self-efficacy, depression, impact on finances, or self-rated health. Conclusion: These findings show a preliminary efficacy of the intervention proposed in this study to prevent the exacerbation of caregivers’ distress.

Hb rata-rata kelompok kontrol 10,375 g/dL sedangkan intervensi 10,653 g/dL (nilai p=0,986). Abstrak Anemia occurs worlwide, especially in developing countries and in low socioeconomic groups. i.e. in 45% of women. Anemia is one of the causes of bleeding. Various attempts have been made, but have not shown the maximum results. Need other efforts in the nutrition form of avocado juice to overcome the anemia of pregnancy. This research aims to determine the effect of avocado juice on hemoglobin and erythrocyte levels of pregnant women. The type of this research is Quasi Experimental design which implemented in November to December 2017 with 33 respondents of trimester II pregnant women who have HB<11g/dL and determined by purposes sampling. Repondents filled out questionnaires to determine their characteristics and performed laboratorium checkup 3 times, pre, on day 7 and 14 after intervention. The data analysis was done descriptively, hypothesis testing using independent sample t-test, to know the effectiveness of avocado juice using paired sample t-test and to know the difference of mean of Hb and erythrocytes using ANOVA repeated measures test. Consuming avocado juice for 14 days was effective in increasing the average of Hb and erythrocyte levels. LSD post hoc test results showed significant differences in Hb and erythrocytes mean (Hb p-value = 0.023 and erythrocytes p-value = 0.043) in the intervention group between pre and day 14 post intervention. While in the control group p-value p= 0.441 for Hb and erythrocytes p=1.000. The conclusion of this research that there was a positive effect of consuming avocado juice for 14 days in increasing the average of Hb and erythrocyte levels, but the hypothesis test result showed that there was no significant difference between the intervention group and the control group.

Healthcare professionals require a thorough understanding of stuttering since they frequently play an important role in the identification and differential diagnosis of stuttering for preschool children. This paper introduces The Preschool Stuttering Screen for Healthcare Professionals (PSSHP) which highlights risk factors identified in the literature as being associated with persistent stuttering. By integrating the results of the checklist with a child’s developmental profile, healthcare professionals can make better-informed, evidence-based decisions for their patients.
