AbstractThis study attempted to explore how pragmatic and hedonic values are influenced by the level of technology and what particular functions have to be considered in the context of smart technology- driven design in terms of Pragmatic Value (PV) and Hedonic Value (HV). An on-line questionnaire survey was developed to answer the research questions. A total of 104 respondents participated in the survey. As target product for the study, analog watch and smart watch were selected as representative of low and high technology respectively. Semantic Differentials on PV and HV were used and expected functions were investigated via an open question. The results indicate that there are some differences between analog and smart watches in terms of PV and HV. Regarding expected functions, significant differences were identified in the study. The findings from the study could provide a better understanding of the relationship between PV and HV in terms of level of technology. If it is considered in product development process, it may contribute to an increase of user satisfaction with smart- technology based product and service.

The appropriate iteration process model is the basis for managing and optimizing the product development process. In this article, we attempt to introduce the concept of process effectiveness and process value. The relationship between rework probability and process effectiveness is discussed. The evolution function of process effectiveness is proposed to drive the overlapped iteration process of multi-coupled activities. The evolution process with input information update is studied, and a simulation model is presented to obtain the accurate iteration process of development. It is useful to analyze the risks during development, and has good flexibility and versatility. The calculation method of process value for overlapped iteration process is given, and an optimization model for product development process is provided. The model is used to improve the development process of the stamping die of a car roof. With the model, we can get a suitable overlapping rate of multi-coupled activities to improve development performance.

O presente artigo pretende investigar de que forma as mudanças no comportamento do mercado e o crescimento da consciência ambiental tem feito com que os consumidores mudem sua postura e exijam das empresas uma readequação de processos com vistas a adotar métodos de gestão mais alinhados com a questão da sustentabilidade e principalmente dos impactos ambientais de suas ações. Sendo assim, o principal objetivo deste artigo é compreender de que maneira empresas de diferentes segmentos estão implementando os conceitos e ferramentas de ecodesign em seus processos de desenvolvimento de produto. Para tanto, foi realizado um levantamento teórico em periódicos da área, além de um estudo exploratório de campo baseado em entrevistas em profundidade, que mostrou que a motivação das empresas para a adoção de práticas de ecodesign ainda é limitada a cumprir exigências legais, ou como forma de redução de custos. Sob uma perspectiva mercadológica percebe-se que o marketing exerce pouca influência na relação entre o ecodesign e o processo de desenvolvimento de produtos.   This article intends to investigate how changes in market behavior and the growth of environmental awareness have made consumers to change their posture and demand from companies a process readjustment with a view to adopt management methods more in line with sustainability and especially the environmental impacts. Therefore, the main objective of this article is to understand how companies from different segments are implementing ecodesign concepts and tools in their product development processes. For that, a theoretical survey was carried out, as well as an exploratory field study based on in-depth interviews, which showed that the motivation of companies for the adoption of ecodesign practices is still limited to complying legal requirements, or as way of reducing costs.  From a marketing perspective, it is perceived that marketing has little influence on the relationship between ecodesign and product development process.

In this global marketplace, as products supply grow, product life cycles are shortened and consumer loyalty is declining. It is more important than ever for companies to bring new products to market in less time and periodically. This article examines the Lithuanian cosmetics industry and what difficulties a company face when introducing a new product to the market. The cosmetics industry in Lithuania is reviewed and the product development process is analyzed. Identify the factors of a successful product and the relationship between them. The paper presents the results of the surveyed companies involved in the development of cosmetics industry products. The reasons and key factors influencing product success are identified. Based on the results of the study, a model for the development of new products for the cosmetics industry is presented and conclusions and suggestions are presented.

The purpose of this paper is to analyse the relationship between eco-innovation process and knowledge management (KM) from the perspective of tools and practices, in the initial stages of the product development process. Knowledge management can help to develop behaviours and practices that stimulate green knowledge and improve organisations’ eco-innovation performance. The analysis of the relationship between eco-innovation process and knowledge management in the initial stages of the product development process was performed using three tools: the Standard Design Process Form (SDPS), The STRETCH Methodology and the Product Ideas Tree (PIT) Diagram. The results show that the eco-innovation tools contribute significantly to the creation of knowledge in the early stages of the product development process, as evidenced in the selection of the best ideas and in the reduction of uncertainties on environmental and market opportunities.

The relationship between product development process and product success remains to confound many. Although most researchers agree that product development is one of the main factors affecting product success, many case studies performed since 1980s have shown different results. Some studies find a strong relationship between a product development activity and the product success, while some others discover the opposite. There is no generic result to be referred to further study or used for practices. Therefore, this study explores further the effect of product development activities on product success by conducting a multiple triangulation approach. This approach cross-examines three methods with three different data: meta-analyses that use data from a number of case studies previously published; analytic hierarchy process that takes data from product development experts’ judgment; and resource allocation analysis that utilizes companies’ operational data. The results show that the relationship between product development process and product success is unique for every case or group of cases. The relationship can be determined by utilizing resource allocation data and experts’ judgment, as shown by a general procedure proposed.

This study investigates how technology-intensive new ventures shape and manage their relationships with incumbents to successfully develop new products. We undertake the dynamic views of business relationship to reveal under what conditions new ventures should emphasises more on transactional contract or alliance approach to develop their relationships with incumbents. Using longitudinal multiple case analysis, we show that transactional contract is less effective during discovery and development stages to facilitate knowledge share and collaborative learning between new ventures and incumbents. However, adopting transactional contract is essential during commercialisation to strengthen the relationship, minimise the drawbacks of social bonds, and motivate both parties to engage in new projects. The results show that tensions between exchange partners are likely to increase when the incumbent is flexible to re-negotiate and share the fair benefits during the commercialisation stage. Our findings provide new insights about the evolution of new ventures’ relationships with incumbents across NPD stages.

This paper, through a wide approach of Product Development Process (PDP) renowned methodologies, proposes a conceptual model to serve as a guide in the elaboration, management and implementation of research and development (R&D) projects classified by the R&D Program of Brazilian Electricity Sector which is regulated by the Brazilian Electricity Regulatory Agency (ANEEL). Product development methodologies can be applied to narrow the relationship between academy and industry ensuring results directed to the product, with reduction of costs and development time better suited to the customers needs, fulfilling integrally, at the same time, the Innovation Chain proposed by ANEEL R&D Program in the achievement of new technologies for the electricity sector.

The topic of what interviews measure has received a great deal of attention over the years. One line of research has investigated the relationship between interviews and the construct of cognitive ability. A previous meta-analysis reported an overall corrected correlation of .40 ( Huffcutt, Roth, & McDaniel, 1996 ). A more recent meta-analysis reported a noticeably lower corrected correlation of .27 ( Berry, Sackett, & Landers, 2007 ). After reviewing both meta-analyses, it appears that the two studies posed different research questions. Further, there were a number of coding judgments in Berry et al. that merit review, and there was no moderator analysis for educational versus employment interviews. As a result, we reanalyzed the work by Berry et al. and found a corrected correlation of .42 for employment interviews (.15 higher than Berry et al., a 56% increase). Further, educational interviews were associated with a corrected correlation of .21, supporting their influence as a moderator. We suggest a better estimate of the correlation between employment interviews and cognitive ability is .42, and this takes us “back to the future” in that the better overall estimate of the employment interviews – cognitive ability relationship is roughly .40. This difference has implications for what is being measured by interviews and their incremental validity.

The purpose of this study is to review the implementation of ISO 9001:2015 in order to improve the quality of services at Pusat Kesihatan Universiti (PKU), Universiti Utara Malaysia. The respondents of this study were customers at the PKU, UUM. The questionnaire was distributed to 50 respondents. The data were analyzed using SPSS software version 24. The data were tested using descriptive statistics, and correlation analysis to answer the research questions and to achieve the objectives. The findings show that customers agree that implementation of ISO 9001:2015 give service at PKU, UUM is good and satisfied. Through the correlation test, the results showed that the relationship between the implementation of ISO 9001:2015 has a positive and significant impact on customer satisfaction and the effect of implementing ISO 9001:2015 has a positive and significant impact in improving quality of service at PKU, UUM.Through mean and standard deviation tests, results show that tangible dimensions are the main dimensions of customer satisfaction while dimensions with low values are dimensions of responsiveness.Therefore, all aspects of service in PKU, UUM will be strengthened and all aspects of the weaknesses could be addressed to improve the service in order to maintain good quality services.

An accurate understanding of users' needs is essential for the development of innovative products. This article presents an exploratory method of user centered research in the context of the design process of technological products, conceived from the demands of a large information technology company. The method is oriented - but not restricted - to the initial stages of the product development process, and uses low-resolution prototypes and simulations of interactions, allowing users to imagine themselves in a future context through fictitious environments and scenarios in the ambit of ideation. The method is effective in identifying the requirements of the experience related to the product’s usage and allows rapid iteration on existing assumptions and greater exploration of design concepts that emerge throughout the investigation.
