Work engagement may be defined as a positive, fulfilling, work-related psychological state characterized by the dimensions of vigor, dedication, and absorption. In this study, the psychometric properties of the Italian version of the Utrecht Work Engagement Scale (UWES-9) were investigated by using two samples of Italian (n = 668) and Dutch (n = 2213) white-collar employees. In addition to reliability analyses, we also conducted a series of multiple-group confirmatory factor analyses of the UWES-9. The validity of the UWES-9 was investigated by studying its correlations with the Job-Related Affective Well-Being Scale (JAWS) and with a measure of work performance. Results showed that a three-factor solution of the UWES-9 is invariant across the Italian and Dutch samples, with data supporting factor variance and covariance invariance in addition to metric invariance. Internal consistencies of the vigor, dedication, and absorption scales are good. The UWES-9 and its subscales show significant correlations in the expected direction with the JAWS and with work performance. The Italian version of the UWES-9 behaves consistently with its original Dutch version and may be used for future studies of work engagement.

Work engagement may be defined as a positive and fulfilling psychological state associated with both affective response and mental arousal. This study investigated the psychometric properties of the Hebrew version of the Utrecht Work Engagement Scale (UWES-9) by using a sample of Israeli (N = 252) white-collar employees. We conducted a series of confirmatory factor analyses of the UWES-9 in addition to the customary reliability analyses and found that a three-factor solution of the UWES-9 best fit the data and confirmed the dimensions of vigor, dedication, and absorption associated with work engagement. The reliability coefficients of consistency were high. The validity of the UWES-9 was confirmed by its correlations with Job-Intrinsic and Job-Extrinsic Satisfaction (MSQ-SF; Minnesota Satisfaction Questionnaire Short Form). The Hebrew version of the UWES-9 administered to Israelis shares the same psychometric properties reported for the original Dutch version and suggests a transnational, translinguistic, and transcultural validity.

Employees who have low work engagement can harm the company, it can be shown by the decreasing of work performance and unproductive. Job stress can impact in decreased attachment of work. Job stress is also a major problem in the individual well-being that can affect the physical, psychological condition of the individual and the organization and also will affect the work engagement. The purpose of this study is to prove the variable of workplace wellbeing as a mediator of job stress variables with work engagement. The collecting data on the research is by spreading the online questionnaire which is gform and anonymously to the private employees in Jakarta, the ages 25-49 years, with working experience of at least 2 years, and minimum education level is bachelor. The number of respondents who data was processed are 200 people with the number of female respondents are 120 people and men are 80 people. This research uses quantitative research design using mediation analysis from Hayes in PROCESS in SPSS version 23. The scales that researcher used are Job Stress Scale for job stress (IV) with cronbach's alpha = .830, WWBI (Workplace Well-Being Index) for workplace well-being (MV) with cronbach's alpha = .863 and UWES (Utrecht Work Engagement Scale) for work engagement (DV) with cronbach's alpha = .922. The results showed that workplace well-being as a mediation variable with the value (p0.005, SE =?, CI [-0.2454, -0.0687]

Abstract. Our study introduces a 9-item and an ultra-short 3-item version of the Utrecht Work Engagement Scale – Student Form (UWES-SF). Using data from German university students ( N = 2,620), our aim was to validate the factorial structure of the UWES-9-SF and to investigate the reliability and validity of an ultra-short measure – the UWES-3-SF. Confirmatory factor analyses (CFA) confirmed the three-factor structure of the 9-item version (CFI = .95; SRMR = .033, RMSEA = .088), the internal consistencies of the sub-scales were satisfactory. The ultra-short version with three items (one of each dimension) also proved to be a reliable indicator of student engagement with a Cronbach’s α of .86. Construct validity with similar and opposite constructs (burnout, satisfaction with life, subjective health, depressive symptoms, challenging study demands) was successfully proven for both measures as well as for the sub-scales of the UWES-9-SF. The German short and ultra-short versions of the UWES-SF with nine and three items, respectively, are valid and reliable measures to assess student engagement.

AbstractThe Utrecht Work Engagement Scale (UWES) is a self-report instrument widely used, both in the original and its abbreviated version of nine items, to assess the work -UWES, UWES–9– and academic engagement -UWES-S, UWES–S–9–. The present study examines factor structure of the UWES–S–9 using confirmatory factor analysis (CFA), its convergent validity and invariance across sex and age groups in a sample of 626 Spanish high school students. The results support an unidimensional conceptualization of engagement (S-Bχ2/df = 5.29; CFI = .96; NNFI = .94; RMSEA = .083; IFI = .96; AIC = 82.21; BIC = 267.38), revealed an essentially invariant structure of the UWES–S–9 across the sex, ΔS-Bχ2(Δ6) = 10.67; p ≤ .05, and age, ΔS-Bχ2(Δ7) = 9.67; p ≤ .05, and confirmed the positive association between academic engagement and achievement (r = .30; p ≤ .001), dispositional optimism (r = .21; p ≤ .001), and subjective well-being (r = .16; p ≤ .001), and the negative association with perceived stress (r =. –13; p ≤ .001). In short, the Spanish version of UWES–S–9 is presented as a brief, reliable and valid tool to measure academic engagement in high school students (α = .91, AVE = .52, Ω = .911).

Work performance, undoubtedly, is the key of organizational success. Therefore, it is very important to find out the antecedents which will significantly lead to work performance. Unlike other organizations, mental hospital is a unique institution delivering a different kind of service, both to the patients as well as the family of the patients. Adding to the fact, nurses play a very important role in determining the performance of the hospital. Current study aimed to investigate the contributions of work engagement, psychological capital, and perceived organizational support towards work performance. This was a quantitative non-experimental research employing four questionnaire distributed to 140 nurses from all positions, ranging from junior to senior,  and conducted in a mental hospital in Jakarta, Indonesia. The questionnaires distributed to participants were 47-item Individual’s Work Performance, 3-item Utrecht Work Engagement Scale, 24-item Psychological Capital Questionnaire, and 8-item Survey of Perceived Organizational Support. The results of the study found that work engagement played a significant role towards work performance (F=42.402, p<0,05). Moreover, psychological capital and perceived organization support contributed a significant impact towards work engagement (F=3.678, p<0.05).

Estos estudios brindan aportes de interés para el ámbito educativo en general y permiten profundizar el abordaje del Grit en el contexto mencionado.ABSTRACT Two studies are presented in which an instrumental design was used with two samples of university students of both sexes, age range from 17 to 30 years, who completed the Grit Scale in its original version (Duckworth et al., 2007) and abbreviated (Duckworth & Quinn, 2009), and the Spanish adaptation for students of the Ultrecht-Work Engagement Scale (UWES-SS) (Schaufeli et al., 2002), adapted and validated for its application in Argentine population (Mesurado et al., 2016). Study 1 was carried out with a sample of 233 students to analyze the factorial validity of the Argentine adaptation of the two Grit scales, applying the tetrachoric correlation matrix with the Factor statistical package (Lorenzo-Seva & Ferrando, 2020) and the internal consistency analysis. Additionally, the convergence of both scales with the UWES-SS was analyzed. Study 2 was carried out with another sample (N=235) in which a confirmatory factor analysis of the Grit-O and Grit-S Scale was performed. The results are comparable with similar studies carried out with the original scales and show that the Grit Scale, in its two versions, has solid psychometric properties and good construct validity, becoming reliable instruments for psycho-pedagogical guidance. Likewise, the convergence found between Grit and Engagement indicates the importance of stimulating both abilities in the university population. These studies provide interesting contributions to the educational field in general and allow us to go deeper in the approach of Grit in the studied context.
