The article presents the results of a study to establish the relationship between the planned indicators formed in the operational work of the road transport enterprise when transporting goods and the indicators formed in the current work. The authors consider the functioning of a road transport enterprise in the current mode on the methodological basis of the theory of road freight transport, the theory of rolling stock maintenance, the system approach, using economic and mathematical methods. The criterion for optimising planning is the profit of the road transport company, and the constraints are the output, mileage and labour intensity of maintaining the rolling stock, which depends on the probability values of the length of the ride with freight, the mass of the freight, average technical speed and time for loading and unloading. The application of the developed methods and mathematical model to optimise planning will make it possible to study the functioning of a road transport enterprise as a probabilistic system and to determine planning indicators, considering the influence of random factors that appear in the current and operational work of the road transport enterprise.

The damage assessment of freight cars during shunting and loading and unloading operations was made. The need to review the normative documents regulating the relationship between the owners of rolling stock, owners of non-public tracks and the carrier is noted. The reasons for formation of damage on the wheel pairs of freight cars when disbanding on low-power sorting slides are considered. The conditions for ensuring the deceleration of detachments on non-mechanized sorting slides without damaging the wheels are determined. The analysis of methods for ensuring braking on low-power slides is carried out. A method was chosen to ensure the wheel set rotation by introducing a third body between the rubbing surfaces during the braking of cars, which will take over a part of the resulting heat flow, reducing the temperature and increasing the coefficient of friction in the «wheel-rail» contact zone. A method is proposed to provide braking on the non-mechanized sorting slide during shoe braking by applying a friction compound to a non-working rail. Laboratory tests were carried out, which showed that the introduction of a friction additive can achieve the necessary coefficient of friction to comply with the standard parameters of deceleration of the car in the braking zone.

The purpose of this was to investigate the relationship between perceived service quality and customer loyalty in the road transport industry in Nigeria. Leveraging the RATER service quality model, only reliability, tangibles and responsiveness were explored. Participants were drawn from the customer base of organized road transport firms operating in the South East of Nigeria. Being a quantitative survey, results from 318 valid responses were analyzed with SPSS version 21.  Findings indicate that the three constructs (reliability, tangibles, and responsiveness) are significant predictors of customer loyalty, with reliability having the greatest influence, followed by responsiveness and tangibles. The study recommends steady monitoring of service quality as a step towards customer loyalty in the highly competitive road transport industry in Nigeria.

Agricultural cargoes, by their physical and mechanical pro-perties, loading and unloading methods; conditions of transportation and sto-rage, the possibility of using the load carrying capacity of the rolling stock, their preservation during transportation, the degree of danger during loading, unloading and transportation cover the entire range of variation. This entails the need to attract practically all types of transportation means for their transportation. The structure of the order for transportation is substantiated, the types of agricultural cargoes analyzed and a matrix of the choice of the type of the vehicle according to the characteristics of the cargo is constructed, which enables us to substantiate the expediency of using the vehicles. A block diagram of the algorithm for choosing the types of vehicles for the transportation of agricultural cargoes has been developed to take into account the main constraints, namely the characteristics of the cargo, the restrictions imposed by the road conditions of the route and the peculiarities of loading, the urgency of transportation and the size of the consignment. To execute a pre-ordered order, a vehicle is selected that satisfies the constraints and ensures a minimum freight cost.

Today, the creation and use of powerful information systems for managing the raw material flows of a metallurgical enterprise transported by the railways allow to diminish turn-round of wagons on the house tracks of the enterprise, to reduce the stock of raw materials in wagons, to create conditions for uninterrupted production, as well as to increase the level of maturity of cross-functional interaction of divisions. This necessitates the development of a system of rapid collection, analysis, and visualization of information on the supply of raw materials, which will act as a single information space to coordinate the actions of all parties involved. Such an information system should support decisions at both the operational and tactical levels. Operational decisions in this case include changing plans for the current period, purchasing missing volumes, redirecting raw materials to other consumers, prioritization of relevant shipments and wagons’ rearrangement. Tactical level includes revision of reserve and consumption standards, elaboration of special agreements with carriers. The objective of the study is to investigate the possibility of using an information system for controlling raw material transportation to reduce the turn-round of wagons on the house tracks of a metallurgical enterprise. The authors use general scientific methods, comparative analysis, mathematical methods. The article studies the main functionality of such a system, presents a methodology for calculating the investment attractiveness of a project, and suggests further directions for development in the field of information interaction between enterprises and rolling stock operators.

Methodological approaches to European Union statistical observations of road transport industry are described and comparative analysis of the methodology of statistical observations in Ukraine are performed. The significance of statistical analysis and research of publications on the results of statistical observations for the economy of the country, business environment, scientists and other users is established. The importance database for the National Transport Model is discussed. It is a powerful tool for analyzing, forecasting, feasibility studies of investment projects. The main indicators of statistical reporting for road transport in Ukraine are analyzed. The gaps in the statistical data road transport have been identified. The table provides a clear demonstration of the comparison of Eurostat and Ukraine’s road transport methodology by type of indicators. Differences in methodology with Eurostat in reporting areas were identified: rolling stock; enterprises, economic indicators and employment; road traffic; statistics of passenger road transport; freight road transport; national road freight transport; international road freight transport; cabotage by road. Conclusions and suggestions on converting positions and methodology of national statistics to Eurostat methodology have been provided. It is proposed to create a single electronic platform, accumulating all the various statistics on: carriers, routes, volumes and destinations of transportation, transport work, rolling stock, runs, fuel costs, financial results of activity, investment activity, cross-border traffic, export-import, road accidents, etc. that will be accessible to all potential users of statistics. Keywords: statistics, data base, methodology, reporting forms, sample surveys, road transport.

When considering the economic and environmental aspects of forestry, especially the issues related to timber harvesting, emphasis should be placed on the importance of the availability of raw material resources for the sustainable flow of goods. It would also be difficult to disregard certain issues related to transport, which play a key role in the efficient flow of wooden raw materials. It has to be noticed that timber transport options are limited by a number of factors, including the considerable fragmentation of wood resources and the lack of adequately developed railway transport facilities. This paper focuses on issues related to the road transport of timber carried out by transport companies. Observations to date of large-sized roundwood (thicker than 14 cm and longer than 3 m) transport in Poland indicate a relatively frequent occurrence of overloaded vehicles, exceeding the permissible total weight limit. Empirical evidence also suggests that in many cases, it is an effect of improperly endorsed standards with regard to the density of the transported material. Moreover, there is a clear correlation between the loading volume and economic as well as environmental factors. Therefore, the aim of this article was to show both the current situation in the transport of bulky timber and to present the possibilities for its optimization, from the point of view of locational, economic and environmental factors.

The purpose of the research is as follows: analysis of the current state of functioning of the road transport sector in Eastern Europe and identification of key problems and trends in its development. Research methods: Methods of grouping, comparison and generalization, сorrelation analysis have been used to identify the dynamics of the main indicators of road transport in Eastern Europe. The method of correlation-regression analysis has been applied to determine the impact of increasing the length of roads on the turnover of the road freight transport and the number of employed population in this area. Results. It has been found that the increase in the employed population by 96% and increase in revenues from transportation and storage of goods, postal and courier services (turnover of the road freight transport - in the original language) in the field of road transport by 82% is explained by the change in transport infrastructure capacity by increasing length of highways.

A cost combined life cycle assessment was carried out to estimate the economic and environmental impact of corn straw direct-fired power generation. Results showed that the road transport, diesel, and infrastructure stages represented the dominant contribution to environmental impact in most midpoint categories, whereas the tax, depreciation, raw materials, and infrastructure price played an important role to economic impact. Improving raw material consumption efficiency and decreasing the direct emissions (i.e., nitrogen oxides and sulfur dioxide) generated from electricity production stage are the efficient way to minimize overall environmental or economic impacts.

AbstractThe last decades have seen a tremendous amount of research being devoted to effectively managing vehicle fleets and minimizing empty mileage. However, in contrast to, e.g., the air transport sector, the question of how to best assign crews to vehicles, has received very little attention in the road transport sector. The vast majority of road freight transport in Europe is conducted by single drivers and team driving is often only conducted if there are special circumstances, e.g., security concerns. While it is clear that transport companies want to avoid the costs related to additional drivers, vehicles manned by a single driver sit unused whenever the driver takes a mandatory break or rest. Team drivers, on the other hand, can travel a much greater distance in the same amount of time, because mandatory breaks and rests are required less frequently. This paper investigates under which conditions trucking companies should use single or team driving to maximize their profitability. We present a novel optimization approach for simultaneously optimizing routes and crewing decisions and provide experimental evidence that, for a wide range of cost factors, operating a fleet with a mix of team and single drivers can significantly reduce operational costs when compared to typical profit margins in the sector.
