Abstract This article presents a contrastive analysis of the English copular subschema [become + past participle] and the equivalent copular subschema [devenir + past participle] in French, based on web data. It is shown that both patterns are almost equally productive at the subject complement level. Furthermore, a more in-depth analysis demonstrates that, in the segment of participles with a high adjectival potential, devenir accumulates more participle tokens than become. Conversely, the reverse holds true for participles with a high verbal potential, in which case become is characterized by more participle tokens than devenir. This high amount of combinations between become and eventive participles also suggests a higher degree of passivity for become. However, in the segment of participles with an intermediate verbal potential, devenir is slightly more type frequent than become, which hints at an emerging productivity in this area for devenir as well.

Sometimes, it is impossible to conduct tests with the use of the GNSS system, or the obtained results of the measurements made differ significantly from the predicted accuracy. The most common cause of the problems (external factors, faulty results) are interference disturbances from other radio telecommunication systems. The subject of this paper is to conduct research, the essence of which is an in-depth analysis in the field of elimination of LTE interference signals of the GNSS receiver, that is based on the developed effective methods on counteracting the phenomenon of interference signals coming from this system and transmitted on the same frequency. Interference signals are signals transmitted in the GNSS operating band, and unwanted signals may cause incorrect processing of the information provided to the end-user about his position, speed, and current time. This article presents methods of identifying and detecting interference signals, with particular emphasis on methods based on spatial processing of signals transmitted by the LTE system. A comparative analysis of the methods of detecting an unwanted signal was made in terms of their effectiveness and complexity of their implementation. Moreover, the concept of a new comprehensive anti-interference solution was proposed. It includes, among others, information on the various stages of GNSS signal processing in the proposed system, in relation to the algorithms used in traditional GNSS receivers. The final part of the article presents the obtained research results and the resulting significant observations and practical conclusions.

AbstractCOVID-19 is the most disturbing pandemic of the past hundred years. Its causative agent, the SARS-CoV-2 virus, has been the subject of an unprecedented investigation to characterize its molecular structure and intimate functioning. While markers for its detection have been proposed and several diagnostic methodologies developed, its propensity to evolve and evade diagnostic tools and the immune response is of great concern. The recent spread of new variants with increased infectivity requires even more attention. Here, we document how shotgun proteomics can be useful for rapidly monitoring the evolution of the SARS-CoV-2 virus. We evaluated the heterogeneity of purified SARS-CoV-2 virus obtained after culturing in the Vero E6 cell line. We found that cell culture induces significant changes that are translated at the protein level, such changes being detectable by tandem mass spectrometry. Production of viral particles requires careful quality control which can be easily performed by shotgun proteomics. Although considered relatively stable so far, the SARS-CoV-2 genome turns out to be prone to frequent variations. Therefore, the sequencing of SARS-CoV-2 variants from patients reporting only the consensus genome after its amplification would deserve more attention and could benefit from more in-depth analysis of low level but crystal-clear signals, as well as complementary and rapid analysis by shotgun proteomics. While the complementary regime of the International Criminal Court (icc) has been the subject of extensive examination in the literature, this article offers a new reading of the inability scenario that establishes a clear distinction between two different forms of inability under Article 17(3) of the Rome Statute. An in-depth analysis of this article as this review suggests, would show that the reason behind the inability of a national judicial system is attributed to one of two factors or even the two together; first, physical factors, in the case of ‘total or substantial collapse’, and second, legal factors, in the case of ‘unavailability of national judicial system’. Significantly, the aforementioned distinction is not limited to theoretical debate, but it has pivotal legal ramifications as the emerging practice of the icc shows, or rather does not show, as it seems that the icc confuses the two forms of inability.

This paper is an exploration of similarities and differences concerning absolute constructions in French, German and Norwegian. In the first part, I have examined a more general question raised by these constructions: the connections between these types of absolute constructions and the matrix subject. I have shown that the means by which the absolute constructions are related to the subject can be morphosyntactic, semantic and pragmatic. The second part contains a purely contrastive analysis. Two issues have been examined: on the one hand, the absolute constructions and their congruent and non-congruent correspondences, on the other, the use of determiners. Essentially, French is different from the two Germanic languages, but similarities also exist between French and German, which are the center of a European Sprachbund.

The presented article is aimed at elaborating the problem of the peculiarities of translating English advertising slogans into Ukrainian. The corpus of the research was formed on the basis of the advertising slogans widely circulating in the USA. The main objective of the paper consists in defining the basic strategies and tactics of rendering slogans as subtype of commercials with the preservation of the both semantic and pragmatic components. The results of the carried-out research have proved that there exist common strategies and tactics, allowing to perform adequate and faithful translation from the typologically different English language into Ukrainian. The practical value of the research lies in the fact that the conclusions may be applied in the translation activity. The urgency of this paper arises from the need for efficient strategies and tactics of translating different types of texts in contemporary translation studies. The object of the work is the translation of advertising slogans viewed in the aspect of its faithfulness and adequacy. The subject are strategies, tactics and operations of translating English advertising slogans into Ukrainian. The immediate tasks of the article have been predetermined by the above-mentioned objective and include respectively: the disclosure of the specifics of slogans in the contrasted languages (English and Ukrainian); the outline of the typologically common strategies, tactics and operations of translating slogans. The methodology of this research involved the inductive, the deductive method and the method of contrastive analysis. In the course of the research it has been concluded and experimentally and statistically proved that there exist common strategies, tactics and operations of translating slogans into different languages. It has also been postulated that the pragmatic and the expressive potential of slogans is preserved and rendered in translation. The perspective is seen in reviewing this issue in different Rhaeto-Romanic, Germanic and Slavic languages.

The goal of this work lies in definition and scientific description of combination of the basic grammatical means for expression of category of reason in a scientific text (on the material of German, Italian and Russian languages). The subject of this research is a comparative analysis of the structural and semantic peculiarities of grammatical means for the expression of reason in a scientific text of the XXI century (on the material of German, Italian and Russian languages). The relevance is substantiated by insufficient study within comparative linguistics of the ways to represent the category of reason on grammatical level by comparing several languages (in this case, German, Italian and Russian). The scientific novelty of consists in conducting comparative analysis of grammatical language means for the expression of semantic category of reason in German, Italian and Russian scientific text of the XXI century. Within the framework of contrastive analysis, the author revealed the peculiarities of structuring the functional-semantic field of reason on the example of the texts under consideration. The acquired results allow concluding that in such type of texts the functional semantic field of causality is represented by grammatical means that express reason in a general form or with additional connotation. The presented materials can be applied in the course of lectures on comparative typology of the German, Italian and Russian languages.

There exist many paths so as to carry out ergonomic modifications. Manuals, models and methodologies can be used in order to appropriately handle loads, the design of job positions, continuous physical movements, service areas; as well as the use of techniques for team work cooperation, among others. The subject-study company is a producer of rubber-metal parts for the automobile industry. It basically depends on the operational work of its employees. This makes it absolutely important to pay attention to the manner in which they perform their activities. Many companies pay great importance to the production system without keeping in mind the real needs of workers as they are doing their work. The subject-study company is in this very situation. This paper shows and approach to ergonomics applied to the Mexican industry. In Mexico, there is little evidence of the use of the LEST method. This is an attempt to take the first steps to carry out ergonomic evaluation with the intention of knowing the conditions under which employees are working within companies and organizations in order to provide them with better working conditions. The main aim of this research is to now the most incidental variables in the workplace that have an impact on the performance of employees so as to assess the impact of such incidences through the LEST method. Data was collected from 70 workers taking into consideration their surroundings, workload, mental strains, psycho-social aspects, work shifts, and a new variable that is not considered in the method proposed by the Polytechnic University of Valencia, or by the original method. The workers were asked in a section of the questionnaire: “What would you change about your working environment to improve it?” Through observation, we were able to clearly appreciate the physical movements performed by workers as they went along their physical activities at work while registering each and every one of them. Some of the workers were even filmed to observe the repeated movements they performed during their duties. This allowed us to carry out a more in-depth analysis of such movements. The Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) tool was used so as to tabulate all of the input collected through the questionnaires answered by the employees. By doing so, it was possible to know the frequency at which the abovementioned incidences occurred, and so an interpretation of the data was carried out. Finally, the results or conclusions obtained through this study revealed that the company has major ergonomic differences between the workload and the work environment, specifically the thermal environment, the acoustic environment and the lighting in the workplace. These areas are closely connected with productivity. In general, the company must modify several aspects in the workplace such as their high staff turnover, as well as the full application of current norms, if the company wishes to grow into a leading company in its field.

The historical study into the tensions of the late Qing Dynasty (1644–1912) between the Han and the Hui serves as a way to understand ethnic conflict in modern-day China. With an emphasis on the ideological and cultural differences between Islam and Confucianism, this paper will attempt to place the Neo-Sufi Jahriyyah movement of Ma Hua Long (d. 1871) into the historical framework of a deteriorating Qing Dynasty. Studies in this area have been challenging due to the paucity of resources on the subject and the tendency of mainstream academics during the time of the Great Leap Forward and the Cultural Revolution in China to favour the application of Marxist theory to the historiography of Qing Dynasty China. A more in-depth analysis is therefore required before one can start to uncover a more complete picture of the ethnic, religious, and political aspects of the rebellions.
