Abstract This research was aimed to get the role of nitrogen and the role of substitution synthetic nitrogen with organic nitrogen on red ginger cultivation. The research was conducted from March to September 2020 at Wonorejo, Jatiyoso, Karanganyar. The research was carried out using randomized complete block design (RCBD) with 1 factor, 4 treatments, and 6 repetitions namely P0 (Control), P1 (0.3 ton ha-1 ZA), P2 (0.15 ton ha-1 ZA + 1.99 ton ha-1 organic fertilizer), and P3 (3.98 ton ha-1 organic fertilizer). The data will be analyzed using analysis of variance and continued with a DMRT level of 5% if there is a significant difference. The result showed that the substitution of ZA (Zwavelzure Ammonium) fertilizer with organic fertilizer increased the yield of red ginger cultivation. The use of organic fertilizer with 3.98 ton ha-1 increased the number of leaves, the number of saplings, fresh and dry strawweight, fresh and stored rhizomes weight, and the length of rhizomes..

Vegetative parameters of eight M3 (third mutant generation) lines of sesame were evaluated under rain fed condition. The seeds of the lines were sown alongside their respective controls using a randomized complete block design. The eight lines were generated from three parental stocks: NCRIBEN-04E (V1), NCRIBEN-01M (V2) and NCRIBEN-03L (V3). The three parental stocks were exposed to different doses of gamma irradiation from cobalt-60 source. 04E-550-G2-3 had the highest plant height (57.40) at the 6th week which was significantly different (P<0.05) from the three checks. 03L-450-G2-2 had the highest petiole length (12.45cm) which was significantly different (P<0.05) from the checks except check three (12.25cm) which was not significantly different (P>0.05). 03L-450-G1-2 had the highest number of leaves (91) and consequently highest number of branches (5.60). Although the number of leaves were significantly different (P<0.05) from Check three (54.60), there was no significant difference (P>0.05) between the number of branches and check three (5.40). The results obtained for vegetative parameters of M3 lines of sesame suggests that some of the genotypes could be used as potential parents for future breeding programmes aimed at improving sesame lines.

This study was conducted to estimate heterosis for the yield and yield contributing traits of 32 cross combinations involving 12 diverse lines of some Bangladeshi tomato genotypes considering line x tester mating fashion at the experimental field of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka in 2016-2017 and 2017-2018 winter season. The experiment was designed in a Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with three replications. The analysis of variance (ANOVA) showed highly significant difference for all the characters suggesting the presence of genetic variability among the studied materials. Four cross combinations (L1xT1, L3xT2, L3xT3, L5xT1) showed desirable negative significant heterosis for days to first flowering in both relative heterosis (RH) and heterobeltiosis (HB) ranged from -2.56% to -19.05%, respectively. Highest positive significant heterosis in both RH and HB was observed in four crosses L4xT4 (63.48% and 48.25%), L5xT2 (46.77% and 46.27%), L5xT4 (62.58% and 34.78%) and L8xT3 (37.39% and 35.12%) for individual fruit weight (g), while six crosses L1xT2, L1xT4, L3xT2, L4xT4, L5xT4 and L6xT1 exhibited highest positive significant heterosis for yield per plant (kg) in both HB and RH ranged from 16.09% to 88.46% respectively. Heterotic hybrids with maximum number of studied desirable yield contributing traits (8) of both RH and HB were identified only two crosses L1xT2 and L4xT4. This study was conducted to evaluate the growth and yield of maize to compost, organomineral fertilizer, and mineral fertilizer at Iyaganku and Moniya farm sites in Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria. Treatments consisted of Organomineral fertilizer (A), Compost (B), Fresh compost (C), Mineral fertilizer (D = N.P.K. 15:15:15), and Control (E = no fertilizer). Experimental design was randomized complete block design replicated four times. Compost treatments (45 kgNha-1) were applied at one week before sowing while N.P.K. 15:15:15 fertilizer (300 Kg N ha-1) was applied two weeks after sowing. The growth and yield data collected were analyzed using Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) of GENSTAT Discovery software. Significant means were compared using Duncan Multiple Range Test (DMRT) at p = 0.05. The results of the analysis revealed no significant difference in the number of leaves and stem girth at 8 weeks after sowing (WAS) at Iyaganku. Tallest maize plants were recorded from plots treated with A and B. Also, treatments showed no significant difference in the dry weight (g/cob) of husked and unhusked maize at harvest. At Moniya, plots treated with A produced high number of leaves while lowest number of leaves were recorded from control plots and plots treated with B, C, and D. Similarly, no significant difference was observed in stem girth, plant height, dry weight (g/cob) of husked and unhusked maize at harvest between control plots, and plots treated with C, and D. Larger stem girths, tallest plants, dry weight (g/cob) of husked and unhusked maize at harvest were observed in plots treated with A and B. The results from Moniya farm site suggest that organomineral fertilizer and compost have the potential to enhance the growth and yield of maize in studied location.

An experiment was conducted at teaching and research farm of the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Bauchi, during the dry and rainy seasons of 2016 to evaluate the effect of variety and phosphorus fertilization on the growth and yield of groundnut (Arachis hypogaea L.). The treatment consisted of two groundnut varieties (Samnut 24 and Samnut 25), two levels of phosphorus fertilizer (25kg and 50kg/ha) and a control, factorially combined to give six treatment combinations. These treatments were laid out in a randomized complete block design (RCBD) with four replications. Data were collected on the plant height, number of leaves, 100-grain weight and grain yield. All data collected were subjected Analysis of variance (ANOVA) and DMRT was adopted in separating the means. The result of the experiment showed that, there is a significant difference (P = 0.05) in both seasons on all the parameters observed. The results further indicated that, application of 25 kg P/ha produced statistically (P = 0.05) similar result with 50 kg P/ha, however the two treatments were better than the control. On varieties, Samnut 25 proved to be significantly (P = 0.05) better than Samnut 24 on most of the parameters observed. Based on the result of these findings, application of 25 kg P/ha to Samnut 25 can be adopted by farmers for profitable groundnut production in the study area.

Well-known commercial Tomato seeds (Alisa) were obtained from a famous local store. All seeds were grouped into 7 groups (5%, 10%, 20%, 30%, 40%, 50%, and Control), which were equivalent to different Azolla biofertilizers extract. Seeds of each group were left immersed in the equivalent concentration 24 hours before sown in pots with growing media of 1 peat: 1Vermeculite at the beginning of summer season (First week of May). At the time of transplantation to the field, three pots of each group were used for seed germination test; Seeds were transplanted into the field after 6 weeks. After three days of transplantation, control solution (without Azolla biofertilizer) and different Azolla biofertilizers were foliar applied, the process was repeated every 15 days till 45 days after transplanting. Randomized Complete Block Design with three replicates was adapted. Each block consisted of two rows of 1.5m in wide and 5 m long (15 m2/plot), plant spacing was 50 cm, and each replicate has 20 plants. The suggested development approaches for the summer season were conducted all through the developing season. Vegetative growth of the tomatoes was expressed as plant height, plant length, branch flower clusters, and fruits were estimated in five plants/plot after 50 days from the date of transplanting. Tomatoes of control group and Tomatoes that showed a strong vegetative growth were used for feeding Winstar rats. All Biochemical parameters showed a highly significant difference compared to the control group.
